<< <i>They asked me if I was with the press, I wonder if they would have answered me sooner if I said yes?

Evidently they have inundated by the numismatic press!

    Regards, John >>

the people involved in this discussion are so far ahead of the curve of the Numismatic Press it's not even funny.. NN or CW should file an FOIA request with the MInt and find out how many of these 08/07s were made.. and how many were shipped and how many were caught prior to shipping and held back / melted.. period.. we all want to know what the magic numbers are.. someone HAS to know.. the Mint keeps scrupulous records of Mintages, who's working when, on what coin press, how many of what is made.. dies are numbered.. i would ASSume the press workers have to sign the dies in and out of whatever little room they keep them in.. they might even have to wear pocket-less, cuff-less overalls (like the guys who work in counting rooms in Casinos).. and go through metal detectors as they enter and leave work, no?..

i read the whole rigamarole about how to file an FOIA request, and either one or some of us do it, or, more rightly.. the Numismatic Press should do it.. it would make for one Helluva story.. and we could get the truth (maybe) and stop flailing around here speculating.. >>

I asked if the US Mint was/had searched through orders before they shipped to look for the subject coins. They are going to call me back tomorrow. I'll let y'all know if they do and if there is any news. They asked me if I was with the press, I wonder if they would have answered me sooner if I said yes? >>

No, you still would have gotten the runaround. The difference is that if you were the press, they would have had to refer you to someone with "press training". A more "official spokesperson" before they blew you off image

This was probably mentioned pages ago, but has anyone noticed that the photo of the 2008 Eagle on the Mint's web site shows one with an 07 reverse?

Where are all the coins? Surely with 47,000 coins minted there should be more for sale? Are they being hoarded? Or do people have them and they simply don't know it?

How long will the interest in this variety last? Lastly does anyone think its worthwhile still ordering from the Mint? I have not had much luck but it would seem that others have....image

Lots of people buy stuff from the government and never look at it.
Ever see the "Broken CC" GSA dollar? The GSA found this neat error CC coin (think it was an 1884; too lazy to look it up) broken in half in an original bag, and decided to use it to hype the sale of the coins. They sent out press releases (I was with Coin World at the time) telling how this special coin would be sent out totally at random, with a letter enclosed asking the recipient to contact them to let them know who got it.

They send out the coin, and nothing happens. After a few months they contact the person it was sent to (gee---they DID know who got it) and asked him if he had received it. He said yes, but that he had never opened it. Should he?

I believe someone else stated, that the number of posts, will equal the number that escaped from the Mint.

10k, I can live with that.

    $1750 Link

    Best Offer $1750

If link doesn't work, the auction number is 130221205002

Since it was a Best Offer I don't know if eBay will display the offer price,
but it was $1750, and accepted.

I love how even some recently made orders (like 19Lyds May 5th) are coming up roses!

Those late scores give me hope that one of the three orders I made since Apr 23 will be among them.

Not exactly sure what you mean but:

    I Ordered 2 on 3/17 - Backordered
    Invoice/Packing Slip dated 4/04/08
    e-mail conf. shows shipped 4/08/08.
    Received 04/14. Both were 08/07s

Some folks may have received these earlier and just not noticed the difference.
    Hope this helps.

There may be a shortage of those with the cute little flag but there won't be a shortage of PCGS slabbed 07/08s.

  • << <i>Many of the NGC MS70 ER's are way over graded! >>

WAY overgraded???? So they should be 67's or, if lucky, 68"s??? Personally I have no problem determining which coins will NOT be 70's but I can't get a grip on which coins WILL be 70's. All my NGC 70's look like 70's to me and, only on ASE's, I have a greater fear of spotting with the PCGS coins than NGC. Risky putting out that much moola and having to vacuum pack it and pray.

Just noticed Gainesville Coins has some MS 69 ER NGC back on their website. I called in and ordered a MS70 ER as I have noticed a spike in price on "the bay" for these. The order taker told me they only have a handful left in ER and the next batch they get will be brown labled.

I don't mind calling in for price since the price for these are volatile right now. GC is less expensive than MCM for ER70's.
