<< <i>Bryon - I'm very happy for you. Good luck with the Spahn! We all can't wait to see what comes up next.
Craig - thanks for helping Bryon along with his cause. Whatcha gonna do with the Landis letter? I'm thinking you should donate it to the HOF in Fandango's name.
edit: 900! Didn't even realize it until I finished posting. >>
Not sure what I'm going to do with the letter yet. I'm sure I'll let everyone know when I do...
Edited to add: anyone have a 1986 Topps Alan Knicely?
I just thought of something - do you have any plans once you reach your goal? I think it would be neat to buy back the original 86 Topps Alan Knicely (since it would only cost you a nickel) to display right beside the Mantle. Just a thought.

From a portion the very first post in this thread:
"And just so this won't be a completely self-serving venture, my plan for the Mantle, if and when I acquire it, is this: to hold on to it long enough to enjoy it for a while and show it off to family and friends (a few months, I imagine); then, auction it off and split the net proceeds with half going to charity and the other half going into my 2-year-old daughter's college savings plan."
Thanks, all. And, yeah, as Nick pointed out, if I ever do get the Mantle, I'll only hang onto to it for a short while before auctioning it off and splitting the proceeds between a charity and my daughter's college fund. (She was 2 when I started this, and her 4th birthday is in just a couple weeks.)
And I WOULD get a kick out of getting the original Knicely back, but I'm not sure the board member I traded it to, zodiacmindwarp, still hangs around these parts.
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
Early Bowmans, especially 1952 routinely have that wax stain, it was not from a cookie as these cards were sold with gum. With that said examples without the wax stain are more desirable. Back in the late 70's and up until around 1988 I was actively building that set and I hate to say it but many of mine have the wax stain.

there is no risk.. it can't go lower.. 8.5 helps.. a 9.. would be awesome.. I have seen some poorly centered 9's for the age of that card to be in such nice shape.. you never know

I check in every once in a while. Believe it or not, the Knicely card has been on my desk since we made the trade over a year ago. I'm looking at it right now. I never even took it out the plastic baggie you sent it in. I figured I had better keep it safe as it will be an important part of the story once you achieve your goal.

I've made and received several offers, but none have quite fit the bill yet. I've had to turn down some great cards... This is painful business I tell ya.
Sorry for the belated comment but that's a freaking sweet pick up.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

If it means anything my wife gave me permission to buy a '52 Mantle back when the MSN discount was 25%. Rather than adding more debt I opted to pay more on the student loans.

Thanks, Steve. Pretty cool. I must be getting the cookie thing confused with some other issue.

<< <i>nice card any bites yet?? >>
Three bites so far. They were tough calls, but none that I ultimately felt confident enough with to pull the trigger on.
Agreed. It may well be worth the risk if L/R centering is within tolerance.

Also, not to put the card down but if it has the wax stain on the back I don't see it bumping.

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of having it reviewed. Definitely worth considering. Thanks.
