I really don't know much about this card... is it a pack pull, or is it a send-in? What makes it so hard to acquire? Very limited release? I only have the standard Crash The Game... no exchange or instant winner.
Dont tempt me I have been eye balling one of them for awhile. Along with the 94 Topps series 2 Baseball for that stupid ABCD card. One thing about the 98 is that the "instant winner" card is 1:721 packs so if I do the math that is one every 2 cases because they are 12 box cases. I don't know if they made the 20 box cases for 97 or 98?
IIRC the one in the pop report says instant winner and has no number. I am too lazy to go back and check. The card probably doesn't exist but the 97 does and man its sharp. You definitly scored a rare card.

As tempting as it is to give it a rip, it would be pretty much impossible to recoup even a fraction of your money. Nothing in this set is selling for anything substantial, even in PSA 10. Most of my hobby money is either tied up in the current group rip, at PSA, or in preparation to nail down that 1988 Topps on ebay. If you asked me in a month I might be in for a case though.
Same here. I just did my taxes though so who knows. I have been forcing myself to not even look at any Ripkens for a couple months now. I honestly don't know how much longer I can hold out. The temptation to start buying up a bunch of PSA 10's is starting to wear on me.
Well now is a great time to get back into it, because there are a TON on ebay right now, between 4SC, 4-star-sports-graded, and psa set guy. Unfortunately there are only two out there that I really need.
Do you guys know how much you spent on your 1988 Topps PSA 10? This thing ends in about an hour, and I have a feeling it's going to break some records.
I went through about 3000+- 88's a few weeks ago, and not only did my Ripkens look awful, but most of the 3000 looked pretty bad. I don't know if I would've paid that much for it. But we'll see if I'll be eating my words in a few years! Nice pickup Jeff!
Thanks man, my max bid was $40 above the final price. I wanted that card, and nobody was going to stop me! Well, nobody except someone with a $210 bid... lol
I had about all I could stand chasing that card. I probably spent that much in boxes and grading trying to pop one of my own. Screw that thing, it's DONE!
The worst part about that card it, the weight of the grade is the standard 10 points, and my GPA barely budged. It's sickening what lengths we have to go to in order to complete this set in all 10s.
I used to think the prices for the 1988 in 10 were crazy... but after hearing how poorly that year was produced I'm starting to think the value is justified. You'd definitely have to buy quite a bit of product to find a suitable card.
Man that product is so much more expensive compared to the 1988, due to the McGwire/Puckett/Clemens RCs. I bought a cello box from BBCE during that Black Friday special, and pulled no Ripkens, along with none of the other big three. That one stung a little.
Luckily the money I spent on that 1988 was money I made from selling my 2001 Topps Jeter PSA 10, and a 2010 Topps Pie Variation for over $80 (pulled from a Target box), so easy come easy go.

Well just think if you pull a 10 on some of the rookies from the '85, plus a Ripken. You'd be set
3 things. The 88's are very tough I remember selling a Mike Schmidt PSA 9 for 150 and the Nolan Ryan was a bear. Nice pick up. What is a 2001 Topps PIE variation? On the Ripken 85 is that line on his thigh is that on everyone?

Where did you see the 2001 Topps PIE? Not sure what that is...
Not 2001, it's in the new 2010 Topps set. All of the Spankees have a "pie in the face" variation that's an SSP. Do an ebay search for "2010 Topps pie" and you'll see what I'm talking about.
lol, I love all the disclaimers saying Ripken is not hypertensive and is not talking Prinivil. Notice Rafael Palmeiro never had a disclaimer when he was doing Viagra commercials!

Hey guys, I have the following Ripken PSA 10 cards available. I was going to put these on ebay, but before I do, I thought I would see if anyone here wants to trade for some of your Ripken 10's that I may be interested in. Send me a PM if you want to see if we can work something out.

Doh, if I was doing a bit better on money right now I'd be interested in some of those I'm sure some of the other guys here may be interested though!

This may be the card you saw. If so, it was just the WIN card you got in the Exchange, and not a Instant Winner card.

Pie in the face variation? Another reason why I..... nevermind sticking to the topic.
