First off, screw Clemens. If he wanted to go to the team with the best chance to win, he would have returned to Boston. But instead, he cares about only two things - $$$$$$$$, and his ego. So he thinks he can save the Yankees sinking ship at 45 years old throwing 5 innings a game? Let him try - I know it will be more fun watching him lose than win.

Aint that the truth! I hope we shell the $hit out of him on Sunday night baseball for the WORLD to see!

All of you Sox fans would have been more then fine if Roger had come back to Boston. But the fact that he did not just irks Beantown so much that naturally its a kick dirt on Roger mentality. Because he did not come back to Boston .... he is bad, if he came back he is good. This reaction was and is just so painfully predictable.

Now, As far as the Yanks chances I am obviously hoping we make a good run eventually, which I think we will, and Yankee fans do have to realize that the wild card is there for the taking if we play well. Becuase whether the Sox win 130 games or 140 games it all goes back to zero in October. THAT is when I am HOPING my Yankees are playing there best ball of the year and have a shot at postseason come September play. I think they will have that shot.

You're probably right. We would be stoked if Clemens had joined the Red Sox, but he didn't. Given that we naturally believe our team is better than the Yankees this year, it looks and feels like his decision was completely mercenary. I think having Clemens on board will buoy the Yankees and they might even win the Wild Card (although my guess is that someone in the Central will take it). With the playoffs the way they are though, the Yankees bats are either going to have to be OUTSTANDING or something drastic has to change with their pitching if they want to go anywhere. Beyond Clemens and Wang, I don't see much that is going to scare other playoff teams in the postseason. Beckett, Schilling, and Dice-K, on the other hand, are imposing opponents (in my humble, biased opinion).

Ofcourse the Yanks have a shot Dan! They also have a real chance of being cellar dwellars too.

As far as Clemens and if he returned to Boston yes it is obvious we would have rooted for him, but he did not and now we hate him for turning his nose up at us so the reaction is not really that Painfull Dan. Its kinda a no brainer.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well both of us have a tough interleague series coming up here, the subway series for the Yanks and the Braves for us.

cellar dwellars ...... image Ahhh well I certainly hope not!

Paul, yes a no-brainer. It's just very funny because both camps had NOTHING to say before the Yanks signed him BUT we all new he was going to sign either in Boston or NY. So, its just funny to see everybody (including Yanks fans) to do the pre-determined hop once he signed.

I don't think Clemens helped them win that WS trophy - he just leeched onto a team that would have won it with or without him.

I don't think so Paul, yes Roger helped us win two World Series BUT he did leave the Yanks right after that and announced his retirement. Then, did a 180 and went to Houston with Pettitte. That did not sit well with alot of Yankee fans. See, the Yankee fan did not want to see the Red Sox get Clemens back. The Yankee fan wants Boston to wallow in the mistake of unleashing him 10 plus years ago. The Yankee fan wants Roger to have nearly as many wins outside of Boston then in Boston. The Yankee fan would have not been happy had he signed with Boston.

I TOTALLY disagree with the notion that Sox fans have more reason to hate him? Why? Because you had a stupid GM who let him walk? Clemens was the Sox guiding light on alot of putrid Sox teams. I think some of that hatred you talk about is misguided.

Yea thats alot to ask of a Rookie, to face the Braves. I doubt we will get it in anyways, but at least the Yankees have an equally tough opponent in the Mets.

image Ok let's be honest there really is NO WAY the Red Sox oculd keep playing like this, are they gonna get tired from all those trips around the basepaths? what about the pitchers have 30 minutes between innings?
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well lets hope they can! Im telling you, Mike Lowell hitting the way he is, is HUGE for us. Manny and Papi cannot be given free passes with this guy hitting the way he his, not to mention if Drew comes around. I like how Youkillis is performing as well....Actually EVERYONE is playing well. This lineup is much better than the '04's lineup, lets keep it going!

All I have to say is Thank God the Sox got that one run in the 7th to score 13 for the day! A 12-spot and my 13-run pool would be over with Boston as the winner! Anyone else here breathe a sigh of relief (or curse in frustration)?

This crazy rule that no baseball games can be shown on Saturday afternoons unless FOX airs them is ridiculous. But at least I got to listen to the game on the radio while I ran some errands. Lowell is on his way to a career season, and Dice is settling in.

In a 13-run pool each guy gets to pick one MLB team at the start of the season (random out of a hat), and the first team to score every run total from 0 (shutout) to 13 wins the pool. So far the Sox have scored every run total this year from 0 to 13 except for 12. I have the Tigers, so I'm still looking for 0 (they haven't been shut out yet) and 11.

A little revenge by the Braves, I was a bit nervous we scored all our runs for the day in the first game.

Yes he did pitch very well. My hats off to him!
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
He really did pitch well, pretty impressive that he outpitched Hudson! And, the Sox won without Lugo and Lowell. One thing different about this years team is the quality bench, guys that can start and fill in with reliability - like Hinske, Cora, and Wily Mo.
    image
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
I agree, I have been stating all along about Mike Lowell adding protection deep into the lineup as well, Hinske is unpredictable like Pena but can addsome scrappy play, Cora adds some good play too. Again I love this teams depth far better than the '04 team. We got guys that pick it up when others are struggling. Drew needs to get hot which I think he will but so far not worth the money spent, hopefully he will pick it up down the stretch.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
Dice on the other hand looks to be a great investment thus far, if we get to the post season and keeps it up, he will be worth every penny!
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
It just seemed like he needed a few starts to get adjusted to the game over here, and to work on his mechanics a bit. But, the last few games he has pitched, he looked like he was on cruise control out there (should have had 2 complete games in a row, but Francona made the right move in resting him in the 9th that last game).
    image
  • Brian48Brian48 Posts: 2,624 ✭✭✭
Yeah, I agree that Dice-K is starting to adjust. Even in the games in which he didn't do very well, his main problem was not so much as getting hit, but rather his control. He gave up a lot of walks that eventually turned into runs scored.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
He will/has learned that you just cant give up 5 or 6 walks in a game and expect to be succesfull at least in this league.
  • alnavmanalnavman Posts: 4,129 ✭✭✭
that's an interesting twist on the 13 run pool. I'm in one that pays if 13 is hit, never heard one run the other way....I think I'll suggest it next year. This year was unusuall until about two weeks ago. No one hit 13 for April and most of May. Then the same week two teams hit. The way ours runs is every week you throw in a couple bucks....the pot built up real quick and one lucky guy won over $300......now it seems 13 is being hit with more regularity like it did last year.....
