The word SUCK does come up after scooping the target and seeing "color" in the scoop. That is not the only word that comes up. :-|

I have no problem with that. What say the other DDs? Can players reserve places in line for each other? As long as one person steps out of the line to allow the other one in, I see no reason why not.

Woohoo! I made it in one image

As for saving a spot...I think it is very cool of someone to give up their spot for someone who hasn't made it in yet. I never knew about the VTHI until after it was over. For VTHII, I kept missing out. This is my first spot in any of them and I know I am not alone in that. So, Riccar is image in my book for asking to give up his spot to someone else (random with only clarification/qualification being someone who hasn't been in yet).

    Just my 2c worth

  • OK. Per LM, my request needs to be ran by the other diggers for approval.

    If approved-
Please give my slot to 1) Someone that has already posted on this thread but did not receive a slot in any of the previous rounds, or, if nobody fits in that category, 2) give my slot to the first person to post that has not been in any of the previous rounds, and 3) if nobody fits into this... I'll keep the slot. (but doubt that'll happen image) Clear as mud? image

    Bochiman-
You were actually the reason I thought of doing this because I saw your previous "miss," but I'm glad to see you already made it in for this round (so thought I'd see if there was anyone else that would fit into the same boat image)

Thanks to everyone setting up VTH... lots of fun!

<<Edited to add: Looks like "Ricke" is the first person in this post (back on p.1) to
attempt to get in, but has not been in any of the rounds yet>>

<< <i>THEN Gary ("BentFork") will step in and do his duty as the Alternate Digger, digging the last seven targets of Round 3 (Targets #30-36). How did I miss out on round 2? I posted right after MaryM and before Laserart, but I got skipped over. image

Well.........since my computer is down at home and I'm off for a few days, guess I'll sit back and enjoy watching the scrambling for other slots.

This is my ruling on the giving away of player slots to other players.

It is still subject to a majority vote by the other DDs, however.

I find it permissible, since each player is STILL limited to only one entry per round, whether he keeps his slot or gives it to somebody else. If he gives it away to somebody else, he may not get another slot for himself or anyone else in that round. It's a one-shot deal. Also, player substitutions like this can only be made BEFORE the results of the round are announced.

If you feel generous and want to hold a place in line for somebody else, that's commendable, as long as you understand that you are giving up your only slot in that round, and once the Designated Digger announces the results of the round, it's set in cement and no switching of players will be permitted.

Sound good to everyone? I suppose I really should get at least three more of the other Designated Diggers (or our Alternate Digger) to agree to this so we'll have a majority vote. I believe Gary ("BentFork", our Alternate), had some reservations about it.

<< <i>How did I miss out on round 2? I posted right after MaryM and before Laserart, but I got skipped over. >>

If you posted right after marym and laserart, you didn't get skipped over- you just missed the boat. They got the last two targets in the round.

Jerry and I can go back and look, but if you are after them and everyone posted in proper order, you're just out of luck for Round 2 and will have to try again on another round.

If you did legitimately get overlooked, perhaps John can give you the first of his R3 targets, but from what you just said, it sounds like you just missed.

Edit- duh image I just read your post more carefully. If you posted after MaryM and before laserart, maybe you DID get skipped, and we can make it up to you either by having John give you Target #25 (the first in Round 3), or I can give you Target #73, the first of my Round 7 targets.

I will go and investigate. Back in a sec.

OK, it looks as though Jeff (GaCoinGuy) might have indeed gotten overlooked in Round 2. Jerry, since this was your round, please investigate and let me know if I have that right or not. I was not around at the time and it looks like you did some edits.

Jeff, if Jerry says he accidentally overloooked you, then I'll ask John to give you Target #25 in Round 3, or you can have Target #73, which will be my first target in Round 7.

Designated Diggers, take note- I think that now that we have some interest in VTH3, it might be better if you dole out your target assignments one at a time, while you're present online. Spread 'em out over a few hours or a day if you need to, to make it fair, but make the players line up one by one rather than opening up blocks of four, six, or all twelve targets at a time.

In VTH1 and VTH2 it used to give me headaches when I would ask people to take targets in order, and they'd go picking numbers all over the round. First guy would want Target 3, next guy would want Target 12, the next guy would want Target 2, and so on. I decided to put a stop to that in VTH3 'cause it got confusing and increased the likelihood of somebody getting skipped.

I'm just glad there is getting to be some interest in the game, finally. The response to my first round and the opening of Jerry's round seemed a little flat at first, but of course that's part of the curse of being the opening acts, I suppose.

  • << <i> How did I miss out on round 2? I posted right after MaryM and before Laserart, but I got skipped over. >>

    Jeff.
When you made your post, the first six targets had been picked and closed.
Jerry did not open the next 6 targets till the following morning which was after you and Mary and LA had tried to enter.
When Jerry opened the polls the following morning the last 6 targets were picked and Mary and Laserart had re-posted to win the targets.

I know you have had a tough time getting in ANY of the Last 3 VTH's and that you don't have much time for the computer like many here.
I just wanted you to know you were not overlooked.
If Riccar wants to give his spot to someone that hasn't had a chance...that's fine by me.

  • If it's ok, I'd like to give my slot to the first person that missed out (on p.1): Ricke.
Already PM'd him and he's interested if you guys approve the ruling.

However, I see that there may be some concern by one of the diggers (see LM's
post about his conversation with Bentfork).

Sorry guys. Didn't mean to cause problems. Of course I'll abide by whatever you
    decide...
  • I've PM'd Rob and Rick about the substitution ruling. I'm cool with folks giving their spots to others. That way more people do get a chance.

    Gary
    imageimageimage
  • Thanks Gary (and to all of you adding to the fun of VTH3!)

If you guys all agree, maybe LM should have the final verdict and declare/define "how, when, and to whom" a slot can be given away... of course I'll accept whatever he decides!

Sorry for the mess guys... Oh, me and my big mouth!

I did a quick read over while on my break at work. I thought Riccar gave his spot to loditom. Now that I am home and had a chance to read it more carefully, I understand. (the bold type helpsimage)
I didn't mean to be greedy. Just a little excited about the game! Good luck everyone.
  • Sorry for the mix-up Omega!

<<Just a little excited about the game! Good luck everyone. >>

haha! I know the feeling... I got in VTH1 and VTH2... so I totally know how things
    get movin' and pretty exciting!

P.S. Love your sig-line quote... I relayed it to my boss at work and said we
need to pass it around to all the upper-executives!
  • OmegaOmega Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭
No problem. This is almost as fun as listening to my detector going off!!! I just started detectoring about a month ago after reading these boards. I came across a used White's at a pawn shop and after checking things out here ran back out and bought it. I got three outings in before the snow flew. This game is a blast. Thanks again to all who helped put this together. I read the sig line quote at my wife's school. I had been trying to come up with something and it seemed perfect.
  • Many thanks Riccar.

In the matter of player substitutions:

Since I have been asked to rule on this, I'll put on my cute little white wig and robes and pick up my gavel.

'Tis done, and duly enacted. *tap tap* image

Now rule #10 on the top thread:

<< <i>10. Since the target assignments made by the Designated Diggers are awarded at varying times, and the window of opportunity for players is sometimes narrow and limited, a player who is online at the right time and receives a target number may give that target to another player later, if he chooses to. However, players may not give a target away to another player and then get another for themselves or anyone else in that same round. The "one target per player per round" rule still stands. It's a one shot deal- you may give up your place in line to someone else, but you cannot get back in line again during that round. Also, no player substitutions may be made after the results of a round are announced. Once the Designated Digger announces the results of the round, it goes on the scoreboard and is unchangeable. >>

In the matter of GaCoinGuy possibly getting overlooked in Round 2:

CROCKofCOINS has ruled on that. Jeff asked for a slot while Jerry (CoC) was sleeping, at 3:51 AM, according to Jerry's timestamp. Jerry did not open the last six targets until 6:41 AM.

Tough luck for GaCoinGuy. Sorry, Jeff- better luck in one of the next rounds. *tap tap* image

There, now I will lay down my gavel and take off the silly white wig and judge's robes, and change into my diggin' jeans, 'cause 30AnvZ28 is on his way down for a visit, and we're goin' night hunting.

I will dig what could end up being the future Round 7 tonight. Since William will be with me, he will be sworn to secrecy and will not participate in my Round 7 if it is the one I dug while he was present, obviously.

<< <i>Nice stuff diggers 1 and 2. Silver coin, relic and jewelry. Will there be gold? >>

I already got a few molecules of gold (plating) with Target #4! image

It would be nice if more showed up. I would say it is a distinct possibility that one of us will find a gold ring. After all, a gold ring that John dug ended up being the top target in VTH1!

  • Round 3 Part I Results!

On January 15th I decided to return to the old spooky farm house I had previously hunted in Round 6 of VTHII. It's spooky because the home has stood empty since 1956 when the former owner killed his wife and then killed himself! image
    image
    image

Those that were around then may remember that I recovered 5 silver dimes that day and numerous wheat cents. I never returned to this site since that hunt, so I thought I could hopefully sniff out some goodies with my Minelab.

It had rained for three straight days prior to my hunt and the ground was sopping wet. After digging several trash targets, I was soon covered in mud. It was on my gloves, my hands, my clothes, everywhere! By the time I found my first good target, I refused to even handle my camera in fear of messing it up. So please excuse the absence of my usual action shots.

    Walkerminus1 you got a 1950 wheat cent!
    image

    Wazari777 you got a 1944 wheat cent!
    image

Bochiman you got a 1946 wheat cent!
    image

    #28.Ricke you got a 1942 wheat cent!
    image

Loditom you got a 1950 wheat cent!
    image

Unfortunately this is where my participation in VTHIII ended as my Sovereign's threshold fell silent and died. image
This site would have likely provided some silver that day as I have never dug a coin here that was'nt dated before 1954.
I have another detector in the works for my final round but, there is 3 inches of snow on the ground now.

    image

So watch for our Alternate Digger BentFork to open the remaining 7 targets of Round 3.

    Go get'em Gary!!

  • Thank you John and Jerry. I won't let you down buddy.

Jerry, come on over. I'll give you a taste of digging US prime desert alluvial soil. Strong as portland cement. Good for the Lesche. I want to get together with you some time, even if it is at your club meeting. Let's work it out.

Hello folks, as John AKA the Goldrush man mentioned, I will be digging the last 7 of his round 3. If the weather isn't in his favor, I may do that one too. I've got some good spots to dig at. They have been very productive for me and should be for you too.

I've been communicating with Judge Rob and John since this came up. I will be digging Friday morning and moderating the entries that afternoon. Once I close the entries, I promise that I will not leave you folks hanging in the breeze too long. Sorry for the interruption, but it was unavoidable.

Even though we won't crank back up til Friday, I'm sure I'll see you all in the thread.

It looks to me like target #25 is a 1958 Cent........a much better find than a 1950 cent. At least from my point of view, having been born in 1958.

  • << <i>It looks to me like target #25 is a 1958 Cent........a much better find than a 1950 cent. At least from my point of view, having been born in 1958. >>

I'm in the giving mood this morning. Since it's your birth year, I'll give you this wonderful virtual cent from 1958. Of course I cannot give you my position after the dig was done, that would be breaking some rule somewhere, but I don't think anybody would object to me giving you the virtual coin. Enjoy.

    Rob

I believe that was probably my last chance in VTHIII. Thanks for letting me play. You guys are great.

I too thought that first coin looked like a 1958.

Man, his detector might have died on him, but John racked up some enviable results, in a way. ALL Wheat pennies- that's a pretty good ratio!

My outing last night was such a skunkfest that none of it will count because it was all trash. I can still dig two rounds and keep the better one for my remaining round (R7). William (30AnvZ28) crashed on our ratty, cat-clawed couch and now we're gettin' ready to go to that Bladen relic site I hunted briefly the other day, where I dug Target #1. It might not have much, but it also has potential, since it is old and never detected by anyone else.

    See y'all!
