Maybe this has been mentioned before in this forum and I missed it but doies anyone know why there was no Ted Williams card for 1959? He came to Topps with much fanfare in 1954 where in that set he had card #1 and 250 and then had Topps cards from 55-58, then he had no Topps cards in 1959 and 1960 and his next Topps card was in 1969 as a coach.

Beautiful card Don..................copied this from Wiki ........
He was the starting second baseman in the Angels' first-ever American League game on April 11, 1961, against the Baltimore Orioles. Batting second in the lineup behind Eddie Yost, Aspromonte went one-for-four at the plate, making one error in eight chances in the field, as Los Angeles won, 7–2

His brother Bob was both the last active MLB player to have played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the first batter in Houston baseball history.
Pete Runnels. Born in Lufkin, TX which is just 45 miles east of where I am, he was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Boston Red Sox HOF in 2004 and even though he was a 5x All-Star and 2X batting champion he was never known for hitting the long ball. But today he hit it out of the park for me. Added this card to my 1959 set today and it moved me into the Top 20 on the All-Time Finest list. So it was a great day at the collector's ballpark for me. I assembled my set over a period of ten years and finally decided to register it a couple of months ago. Of course, I'm sure like many, 1959 was the year I started buying packs and thus they have a special place in my memory. Shoot in 2009, I made a trip to Fort Worth, Texas to visit the store where I use to spend my nickels. I wish I could tell you that I was able to complete my reenactment with the purchase of some packs, but alas, they no longer carried baseball cards. Heck, the store clerk didn't even know what I was talking about. Baseball cards? It was still great to be able to visit my old neighborhood for the first time in five decades, see our old home, and drive the road to the store that I frequented by bike. Full disclosure: I was a Go Go Sox fan (still hate the Dodgers!). The kid down the street was a Yankees fan. Looking back I'm thinking some of those trades that I made with him left me on the short end of the stick as far as future valve. But then I also would have to wonder how many Roger Maris cards ended up on the spokes of our bikes along with all the cards of the Senators players. I have a pretty good Harry Craft (lived in Conroe, Texas) story about how Maris ended up with the Yankees, but I'll save that for another time. My family moved to Houston in the summer of '65 and a bunch of my stuff didn't make the move, including my four shoeboxes of cards which I gave to the kid next door. I heard that he retired to the south of France. Anyway, I've enjoyed reading your posts and look forward to continuing to learn from you guys.
I just mowed through 10 pages and two cups of coffee getting caught up on this thread. Thoughts:
1) Don, nice cards (duh)
2) I wasn't alive in 1957 to pack the ballot box for Redleg's players. I'm not a dinosaur like you guys.
3) Klu's 1957 card is more TVMA than PG.
4) "Only card as a player?" Nope.
I have a few 59’s in on a bulk sub I’m hoping come back PSA 8 or better! It’s still in research and ID but when they do post, I’ll post the grades here, and if ya want em we can work something out! 😊

Seth Morehead's career highlights was being the last pitcher to face Roy Campanella and also the last pitcher to face the Brooklyn Dodgers before the team moved to Los Angeles after the 1957 season.

Fleer signed him to an exclusive contract.
Yes, as was mentioned by markj111, Fleer signed him to a contract...hence the 1959 Fleer Ted Williams set.
