His most productive season came in 1952, when he led the National League in home runs (37) and RBIs (121), and was named the Most Valuable Player.
During a time when the Cubs were especially moribund, Sauer provided some joy for the team's fans with his power hitting, earning him the nickname "The Mayor of Wrigley Field". He was well known for using smokeless tobacco, and it has often been reported that after he hit a home run, when he returned to his left field position, bleacher fans might shower him with packets of his favorite chew, Beech Nut tobacco.

I'm one card from finishing my 1959 master set. My question is what is the difference between the Spec# 0101002905 416A HAYWOOD SULLIVAN NO CIRCLE COPYRIGHT,U.S.A and the Spec # 0101002906 416B HAYWOOD SULLIVAN NO CIRCLE COPYRIGHT,U.S.A. I've got the Spec # 0101002905. The Spec #0101002906 is the only card I need to complete the set and I'm sort of bewildered about what I need to buy. Please excuse my ignorance. Help!
One version of the no copyright versions has no period after the A in U.S.A. It is the toughest of the 3. I am pretty sure all 3 backs have been posted in this thread....somewhere
But, here is a curve. There are front differences too. Look closely at yours in the lower left under and to left of the team logo. Some versions have a rectangular box, some do not. Both are pretty common. I do not know if examples of both exist on all 3 backs. I think examples of these have also been posted in here.
Here are the 3 backs. Sorry for fuzzy scan. Top one is the no period
Thanks, Paul.....I just have fun finding really sweet 9's that have a shot at a bump....it does not always work out, but an eye for superior 9's sure helps.
I just got this card in the mail yesterday.....it is a buy from a friend, not a bump.

On July 16, 1953, Courtney entered the record books when the Browns tied, by then, a Major League mark with three successive home runs during the first inning of an 8–6 victory over the Yankees. Courtney started the feat, followed by solo shots of Dick Kryhoski and Jim Dyck. In 1954, Courtney remained with the team, which had moved to Baltimore and was in its first season as the Orioles. On Opening Day, he hit the first home run in Memorial Stadium history. He finished with a .270 average in 397 at bats, and struck out a league-low seven times, the lowest since Joe Sewell in 1933.
Courtney split the 1955 season between the White Sox and the Washington Senators, batting a combined .309 in 94 games. In 1956 he hit .300 for the Senators and was back in Baltimore in 1960. That season, he became the first catcher to wear an oversize mitt to handle the knuckleballs of Hoyt Wilhelm. The mitt, designed by Baltimore manager Paul Richards to combat the passed-ball problem while catching Wilhelm, was half again as large as the standard glove and 40 ounces heavier.
On a road trip with Richmond in 1975, Courtney was playing ping pong with some of his players in Rochester, New York, when he was stricken with a fatal heart attack at age 48

Can't wait to see the Courtney after bumping to a 10. You definitely have the magic touch Don. I have a stack of about 200 Buc Hill Aces cards fresh from vending and not a one of them are candidates for a PSA 10.

Also---check your Eddie Bressoud card. Does it have a red bar like this on the back. Many of his cards do. If you have a bar you need one without it. If you have no bar, you need one with it

Every time I come to your threads I get sick to my stomach, I had 1 basic and 1 master set and had to sell them off after my wife passed away in 2012.
I have put together a raw super set with some graded. This one goes no where.

Tony---good to see you in here again. Nothing wrong with collecting the 59 cards in their natural state.
If you look through page 35 in this thread you will see I also have tried to get Don to do both Bressouds...in 10. But, if he is smart I bet he sticks to the PSA Registry master CL

John, I have been using Express just because I am impatient. lol.....you also can use Regular which takes longer, but it is cheaper. I have had success with both type of review submissions. I put the value on the sub for the PSA 9....so a common that sells for $100 is what I put on it as the value.
