Don, each time i look at this thread I have to wipe the drool off my desk. You have some outstanding examples in your set.
I am sure seeing them together is a work of art. This set along with 2008 Heritage is what got me back into collecting 10 years ago after about a 15 year hiatus. I was able to get the master set about 85% complete with an avg GPA of about 7.65. I sold most of the cards about 3 years ago but I've slowly picked up a few over the last few months. It is a set I hope to get back to actively building soon. This is one of the cards I kept when I started selling.
Another great card Don. Eddie was called The Walking Dude.....I made that up, but he did get a lot of walks. Good Eye Eddie would have been a good nickname too.
He was also the first LA Angel to go to bat for the new expansion team in 1961. He spent most of career with the Senators but was traded before the 59 season to Detroit because the Senators wanted to take a look at some guy named Killebrew at 3B

You forgot the two most important parts....he was born in Brooklyn and he was the Mets' 3rd Base Coach in the 60s-70s.
Ed, who is still with us, got so tired of people confusing his name ( Fitz Gerald versus Fritzgerald) that in his latter years he changed it to just Ed Fitz. I did not check this with Snopes
You do so many darn upgrades Don. I thought we did Mr Taylor in "lower" grade. He was involved in one of the oddest plays in MLB history along with his half brother Sammy and a guy name Musial. So far I have not found it in the thread.
Tony is still with us and attributes his long life to smoking cigars from his native Cuba
On 6-30-59 Cardinals played Cubs at Wrigley. Musial at bat, Bob Anderson pitching, 3-1 count, next pitch gets past catcher Sammy Taylor and goes to backstop. Anderson and Taylor contend to home plate umpire Delmore that Musial tipped ball with bat. Since ump called it ball, play is live. Musial sees argument and heads for 2B. Al Dark who is playing 3d runs to get ball at backstop, but it is picked up by a field personnel so Dark grabs it from him. Meanwhile home plate ump gives new ball to Catcher Taylor who is still arguing that the other ball was foul. Anderson , seeing Musial headed to 2B grabs ball from Taylor and throws it to Tony at 2B but it goes over Taylor into CF. But Dark who now has the original ball throws it to Banks at SS. When Musial sees the 2nd ball go into Center he heads for 3d but is tagged out by Banks with the still live first ball
As it should be in such games, the Cardinals won anyway 4-1
Taylor was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies along with Cal Neeman for Don Cardwell and Ed Bouchee early in the 1960 season.[1] Despite the fact that Philadelphia was a mediocre team, Taylor established himself and was named to the National League All-Star team that year.[1]
A solid and dependable performer, Taylor held the record having played in 1,003 games for the Phillies at second base (the record was later broken by Chase Utley), and his six steals of home, ranks him second on the Phillies' all-time list.[5]
Tony Taylor is in the Phillies Hall of Fame !

All I can say is WOW!!!!!! There are some gorgeous cards in this post. I wasn't going to do the 59's but I'm seriously considering now. I'm retired, don' know how long I'll have, but am going to start the set after the first of the year. How does the pricing compare to other sets?

Like most years, there are some low pops that are expensive. Ofherwise, not bad outside Mantle and the Gibson Rookie. VCP on my PSA 8 set is around $41,000. I have a (very) few 8.5s and 9s.
You can have a lot of collecting fun putting together this classic set and you can do it on any budget. Many PSA 8's are very reasonable in price and doing it even in PSA 7's is very reasonable and with effort you can find some great looking PSA 7's and enjoy the heck out of them. Good luck and enjoy!

Herm led the league several times in different categories. He led the league in walks 3 times and in wild pitches twice. He also lead the league once in ERA and hit batters. Unfortunately he died at a very young age in the midst of testifying in an embezzlement trial.
