Took over Second base from Jackie Robinson !
Rookie of the year in 1953 !
Gilliam suffered a massive brain hemorrhage at his home on September 15, 1978, and, following surgery, lapsed into a coma from which he did not recover. He died in Inglewood, California, nine days before his 50th birthday, one day after the Dodgers clinched their tenth pennant during his tenure in the 1978 National League Championship Series. His uniform number 19 was retired by the Dodgers two days after his death, prior to Game 1 of the 1978 World Series. His number is the only one retired by the Dodgers of a player not in the Hall of Fame.

Nice Gilliam Don! Here are a few Whitey Fords I picked up recently that appear to be from vending. I have high hopes for them. I doubt PSA would ever grant lowly me a PSA 10 on a 1950s HOFer but I don't think a PSA 9 or two is out of the realm of possibility.

Great looking Ford's ....................amazing you have 4 of them ! I think you have a
great shot at scoring 9's ...........but I still say Psa is super stingy in handing out 10's
on Star player cards !

Thought that I would post some more eye candy.....a nearly impossible card....overall most difficult card in the set other than the No Trade Hanebrink.....lowest pops in PSA 8's and tied for lowest in 9's....pop 3.

Great looking card of Vic ..................copied from Wiki ......
Wertz hit the long fly ball that Willie Mays caught in the 1954 World Series, known as "The Catch". It went over 400 feet to dead center of the Polo Grounds in New York,[2] and a sportswriter said, "It would have been a home run in any other park, including Yellowstone."[3]

Here is my Vic Wertz. Centering is great. Corners could be better but they are pretty sharp. I didn't realize this was such a tough card to get in a grade on. Still don't think I would submit it. PSA can be so tough on these cards but I do like to look at it.
Jayhock, one of the main reasons that Wertz is so tough is that it almost always is plagued with print snow in the dark background of the photo....you can see some of it on your card and I have seen cards a whole lot worse. BTW, your card is really nice. Based on your excellent scan, I would say it looks like a PSA 7 to a PSA 8 range....except the print snow, when actually looking at the card, could knock it down on grading....but it could slide by since the print defect is not too bad.

Great looking card Don .........copied from Wiki........
McDevitt is most remembered as the starting pitcher for the Dodgers' last home game at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn on September 24, 1957, during his first season in the big leagues. McDevitt threw a 2–0 shutout over the Pittsburgh Pirates in front of a crowd of 6,702, in a game in which he recorded nine strikeouts and gave up five hits. He finished the 1957 season with a 7–4 record, along with 90 strikeouts and an earned run average of 3.25 In October, just weeks after what turned out to be the team's final game in Brooklyn, owner Walter O'Malley announced that the Dodgers would be moving to Los Angeles.

1 am getting back on the saddle again. Going to build me another 59 graded set, it may not grade out as well as my first two, but as you know I am addicted to this set since it came out in 1959.
Just sent in 15 free subs and hopefully the grades come back as I predict.
Hi Tony.....great to hear from you! The Stu Miller card is a low pop for sure, but the Vic Wertz probably is the toughest of the toughest.....plus there are a number of other very tough 1959's out there too....Miller is right there with them.
Please post on here your results when your grades pop.....given the current situation, I agree it will probably be very late in the year before you see any grades. I assume that you must have sent the 15 cards in for renewing your membership....free grades for it....if so, they do turn around those cards faster than usual.
Here is my Wertz card......

Well it took a while to get them back , however understandable, thought my 6s would grade out better, guess I am loosing my touch. The Berra I agree with however I wanted graded and came up with a 5.Backs of cards are clean camera picked up too much glare, actually I take piss poor pictures.....lol
I don't think you have lost your touch ......PSA is just really tough on
grading star cards ! ........ You just saved
a bunch on your card collection by submitting yourself ! Did you have to use
the higher submission level of payment to grade the stars ???
