    Don,

Thanks for sharing that amazing Richardson. I met him VA at a camp a several years ago. It was great to hear him talk about Mantle and Maris.

Just received this back from PSA today....it makes for a very interesting addition to my 1959 Topps collection...especially with Mays on it.

I love the way you have stuff like this and the Venezuelans to go along with your main set. That's always made perfect sense to me.

For example, if anybody is into a 70's set, they should probably at least dabble in the OPC version of it and any Burger King-style regional variants that feature the same basic design.

I knew you guys (Don!) would never allow me to sit on my PSA 7 set. Sure, I've been slowly upgrading to 8's, but I can't resist sneaking in a 9 occasionally Here are a few I love:

Of course, the star of the show:

I always loved the look of this card:

As Don said, I am a sucker for these black background cards:

Thank you all for the inspiration!

I have been slowley liquidating a few of my Raw sets in order to make some buys on some more 59s like Mays,Musial, and some of the higher value in which I have in 7s.Right now I am sitting at about 7.35 average would like to get it over a 7.50 not as easy as it may seem.Eventually it will get there.

Maybe in Chicago this summer I will find what I need especially in upgrading the Variation cards from my PSA 6 grades.

Don---watched an inning of a baseball game in Seoul, Korea yesterday, but no one had any 59 Topps cards. How many of the guys in that set are still alive, anyone know ?

Very cool, Al, to watch some baseball in Korea.

I have no idea how many players from the 1959 Topps set that are still alive....I am guessing maybe a 100 or so.

Hello all, I have been reading this thread for quite awhile and have thoroughly enjoyed it and seeing the scans. I have been collecting this set for about 2 years now and have done it in a combination of raw/graded, exmt-nm or better with 60/40 or better centering. I do not want to derail the thread and post a want list, so I thought I would mention that I have a want list on the BST forum for the last 34 cards I needed if anyone has any cast-offs that fit my needs. Thanks for your time and I look forward to future posts.

I checked your list of 34 cards....wish I could help you out but don't have any of them....the list has many tougher cards on it but you will find them in time....good luck to you! And, thanks for following our 1959 Topps thread. Jump in more and let us hear from you about your 1959 Topps set.

Hey Guys, I wanted to get your input on this card. What do you think it would grade at with the yellow tint and stain on the back? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have on submitted 6 cards so far and don't have a feel for how specific defect affect the overall grade.

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Paul...

I think about a PSA EX-MT 6 with a ST qualifier. They may let the qualifier pass but hard to tell.

I don't think it's 6 worthy, even with an ST Q. With that back stain, touched corners, dirty back borders, o/c L-R front, I say a straight 4.5, five tops, is your best hope. Just my dos centavos.

If you watched the MLB baseball card special, then you may want to contact Bob Costas regarding this card. In the day, he'd trade you a Mickey Mantle for it.

Mantle for Siebern.....gotta love it because back in the day many of us would have made a trade like that to get a card we needed.... :-)

Don,Great Job of finding so many 9s.I have some however they have qualifiers of some type still my beloved set.Since I am retiring on june 3rd I will not have as much to spend on my set unless I sell some of my other sets which I really do not want to do.I may have to retire the the set soon however I would like to get it up to a 7.5 at least from my current 7.34.Its not as easy as I though it might be.If I replace my 9 with qualifiers with 8s W/O plus up grade my variation cards from 6 to 8 I stand a decent chance.
