    MR Peanut,
I am curious about your comment, I have seen 4 Sharp Corners' ebay adds and I think I got some SPAM mail from them once or twice. How will this impact 56 collectors? Do they drive prices up? flood the market? Hard to deal with? Just curious if they were a positive or negative market force.

    Hi everyone,

Just like to share my latest pick up for my set. You guys think this might get a bump if cracked? This is about the nicest centered one I have seen.

    Jeff,

Another beauty! It looks like you're accumulating a number of crackout candidates. As you know, I've got several crackouts that I'm preparing to send in as my renewal freebies. I'll be sure to post the results here.

    Hi Brett,

I am also trying to get six cards together as I just got my free grades for signing up for a year. Lets see some scans of which ones you are going to crack.

I was also curious as to what your 4SC comment meant??

    Jeff,

There's no stopping you! Over/Under on when you blow by me on the registry? I'll say two months. I'll post an update and scans for my set tomorrow.

    Hi Brett,

It looks like I am making progress but I have a bunch of cards that I am not all that happy with. I got most in a lot I bought to get me started on the set. So I will need to upgrade those.

Here is my pick up for today...can't wait to get this in hand as the scan is not that great.

Added the following cards in the last month to break the 67% barrier.

It was one year ago today that I registered my set. I thought it would be fun to look back and see what kind of progress I've made in one year. When I added my set, I had 157 cards. Today I'm at 233 cards. So I've added 76 cards in one year. I'd love to get to 300 cards by Dec. 2009.

It's also interesting to note that when I registered my set in 07, I came in at 56th on the registry. Today I've moved all the way up to ... 56th? I have no delusions of grandeur. If I'm lucky enough to finish this set, I won't even sniff the Top 20. But that just puts into perspective how awesome those sets above me must be. That goes for all vintage sets. If you want to be humbled, take a look at a Top 10 vintage set that has scans of every card.

Edit: Crap! I thought I had re-sized all of those scans.

Brett...those are really nice cards this month...as usual!

I think it is interesting that your rank hasn't changed even though you have added that many cards. I think that is good for the set and the values that there are that many new participants who think this set is nice enough to collect.

    Congrats on your progress!

I took a little bit of a hit $$ wise especially on the Campy and Howard. So I'm kind of bummed that only one crossed to a similar grade. But since I'm satisfied with the centering on these and they're going into my registry set, these PSA slabs will be their final resting place.

The Howard does look a little tilty, but I think I was reamed on the Campy.

The Mays was actually also a crackout. I submitted it last year and it came back a 6 then too. T/B centering not good enough for an 8? Surely good enough for a 7 then.

    Brett,

The Campy is an awesome card...looks like it got a 7.5 because of the lower right corner. I think you should just sell it to me! I would re-sub that one at some point.

The Howard does not look like it is tilted to me...I think it is the way it is in the holder. That is a pretty card and looks like an 8. The corners all look good on this to me from the scan and look better than the Campy??

The Mays looks like centering got it into a 6 holder. Nice card though.

I have some new cards will have to put up pics for you.

    Happy New Year

Some HOFers and some tough to find well-centered commons acquired in the last couple of months. Also, I'm now down to needing less than 100 cards to complete the set. It's still going to be a tough task, but there's a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

I saw this over on the group bulk sub on the other forum and it really caught my eye. Congrats. The jump from 7 to 8 on the team cards is definitely pronounced. I can't afford them in 8s. I think anything in 7 or 8 from the 3rd series is very impressive. The Garver, Mizell, Fitzgerald, Tuttle, McDougald, Simpson and Cerv from the 4th series were/are very tough for me. Any chance of outing your source for these beauties? PM sent on the Chi Sox team card.

I have two complete sets of 56's that I got back in the late 90's. The cards are very sharp with roughly 75% being exmt or better. I figure if I ever get around to grading them out I could sell all the dups to pay for the upgrades to nm or better. I think I could easliy get a nm+ set at a 7.25% GPA for next to nothing if I just started getting them graded. I just published my set on the registry under "my next set". All the cards in the set have been graded by me on 3 different subs. The big name cards Mantle Aaron Clemente were on a 6 freebie renewal a while back. I guess this means I now collect 56's. I might need a new sig line.

    Dave,

Maybe lsutigers can be coaxed into taking on another group sub! I'd love to see you check in here if you do get any more 56s graded and to keep us posted with the progress you're making on your set.

Still plugging away. Adding 3 or 4 cards per month. As I near 75%, I wonder when it will be tougher to find cards for my set. Well, these are my latest additions. The beautiful 7.5 Wally Post is courtesy of board member 123Slider. Thanks again.

Those 7's are great looking. I sent another 65 cards in to be graded on the group sub part II. I am hoping for grades alot like the first group sub, but maybe I will get a 9 or two sprinkled in there. I am hoping 90% will grade 7-8.

I may have spoken too soon in my last post here. I've hit a real dry spell. I've only bid on one card on eBay since March 21, and I was outbid. I was able to pick up the following cards in the last month. Really pleased with the Dodgers Team card. That's only the fifth team card in my set. Really difficult to find well centered examples. My set now stands at 253/342, about 74%.

Well I got my grades on my 56's from the 2nd group sub. I didn't get killed but many undergraded cards. Also the #4 Paula shows pop 3 in 8 with that back??? I am guessing the pops are screwed up from PSA not labeling the cards as such. Tell me what you think.
put little notes next to the cards that I had pre-graded and as you can see only one received higher and a ton lower. I am not upset...but PSA didn't show me any love either. I was thinking I might squeak a out a 9 out of Maas, Repulski, Schmidt. Oh well I still got alot of qualtiy cards. Thanks again Gumby.

    Dave,

Judging by the grades you received, that must be a very nice set you have. Definitely worth grading if the opportunity presents itself.

Yeah, they started differentiating WB and GB on the flips around the time that the .5 system was implemented. Anything graded before then, I'm pretty sure PSA files them under the predominant back for that series in the Pop Report.

I haven't checked the Pop Report lately, but I believe that Pless is currently the lowest pop 8 in the set. I'm convinced that the Mitchell is still tougher, but the word got out about that one and more people have submitted Mitchell's.

I'd love to see some scans when you get them back. Particularly that Repulski.

    Dave,

Nice grades and set of cards. Sounds like your set is coming along nicely. You have any 56 dupes to trade as I have about 25 or so.

    Mr. P
Thanks for the kind words. I still am finishing up my 57 set and only wished I would have been building the 56's strong with you guys. It really helps out if you have 2 or 3 guys always looking out for each other and trading their way through the set.

    Jeff,
I will check on the dups. I am really close to buying my last three 57's two being big dollar cards (mantle, yankees power) After that I am jumping into purchasing alot of 7-8's that I need for the 56's that I have no chance of grading myself.

What I really need is someone in the market for some nice 6's and I could graded and upgrade rather easily.

    Hi guys,

Finally picked up a nicely centered Snider...can't tell you how many I have seen that weren't centered.

    Jeff,

Good to see you post. How are things going with your set?

Nice Snider. I looked long and hard for a well centered one too. On a related note, I'd love to find a nicely centered Reese in a PSA 7.

I didn't make a post for May with my recent pickups, because there weren't any. For the first time in 2 or 3 years, I went a whole month and didn't add one card to my set. I just couldn't find anything with the eye appeal that I look for. I did pick up a Hodges PSA 7 recently and I have 2 or 3 cards currently on my watch list, so maybe things will pick up as we head into Summer.

    Hi Brett,

I am at 74% complete. So I am making progress but it has really slowed down. Doesn't seem like there are near as many cards available these days like there were six months ago. I probably have about 20 or so would like to upgrade at some point as I settled for some just to keep moving along. I also need a Reese, so if you see a nice one will have to flip for it so we don't bid each other up.

Have you done anything more with your 66 set while your waiting for things to move along with the 56s?

    Jeff

Hopefully April was just an aberration as I'm back on track and added five cards to my set in May.

Here's my latest acquisitions. The Turley is the first 8.5 I've gotten for my set. It seemed like it took forever to find a nice Baker. That was the commonest common I needed. Also, two more 3rd Series toughies. 78 to go to complete the set.

As always, Great looking cards. I once again proved that setting goals and following thru with those goals are impossible. I have spent all spring and summer at kids baseball games and golfing. I think I have been on ebay 10 times in 3 months. Needless to say I have only picked up 4 upgrades for my 57 set and no 56's. I did send 40+ 56's to Craig for the latest group sub. Many are dups but should get a decent amount of 7-8"s out of the bunch. I would guess 80% would graded NM or better. Hook me up PSA...

Thanks Dave. The great July Special has finally prodded me into cracking the last of my SGC graded 56s (3 88s and 1 86). Hopefully I'll have better luck with this batch than I did the last time I tried the crackout game. Good luck with your subs and with that 57 set.

    Hi Brett,

I may have a few 56s to submit on the special. Not enough to really pay for the shipping charges but might want to lump ours together. I live close to PSA so can drop them off for no charge.

Jeff, that Campy has excellent centering. Is the right edge a little rough and that lower right corner touched? That card has nicer eye appeal than many 8s.

Good month for me so far. I picked up a pretty big one this week. Plus a couple of others. I'll post scans when they arrive.

    Hi Brett,

Don't have the Campy yet...that is the scan from the auction. Not sure about the rough edge or corner but guess we will find out. Centering is more important to me than edges or corners though.

    Jeff

PS...looking forward to seeing your big one you picked up this week!

Agree 100% about the centering. I was just looking for what could be keeping that out of an 8 slab. If I needed that card and it came up on eBay, I'd be very excited.

I'm superstitious in that I don't like to post a card before I have it in hand. That old thing about counting your chickens before they've hatched and all that.

Great! Now I'm setting everyone up for a huge letdown. It's big for me. It's a HOFer from the 3rd series.
