The math will make you dizzy when you figure out what a 660 card set in psa 9 would cost. Factor in all of the stars and low pops and you could have had a nice car or an addition on yoru house. Course that doesn't stop so many of us from trying :-)

<< <i>Piniella could probably be described as low mid pop in both sets. Neither rare, nor common. Average sales price of the regular in a psa 9 is 33.44 and the mini is 34.00. In my experience, he has generally sold at a mild premium to a common of similar pop. >>

Finally saw one for sale on ebay and was hoping to add it to my collection. Unfortunately, the winning bid was just a bit over the $33.44 average price. It sold for $150.00!

Hey, I'm new to the forum and not quite sure if I'm in the right section. Does anyone happen to know who has the 1975 Topps baseball set "Strike Em Out" listed on the registry? I've tried the contact member link and it gets sent back as undeliverable. If you know who it is, could you have him PM me? I'd appreciate the help. I hope I'm not breaking any rules here by asking. Thanks, Jeri.

This just returned home from Newport Beach. I bought it raw on eBay in 2007 and finally got around to sending it in.
I am still contemplating what I am going to do with the card, but thought the 75 crowd here would enjoy a look.

The seller was aeq1944. Doesn't appear to be selling on eBay now. Final price was $22.

Congrats on the mini, was it from the group buy of a 75 mini box from Steve Hart?

I'm a player collector, but I'm calling on all of the 1975 Topps gurus to help me out on this one. I just picked this up and am curious if it has any shot at a bump. I see the little print dot in the S of Brewers and the little spot in the top left corner of the white border is actually on the inside of the holder, not on the card. Also, the horizontal/diagonal line to the left of his name is a scratch on the holder.

I've added two scans of the front & two of the back so you can see the contrast against black and against white. There are also links to even bigger scans since photobucket shrunk them down for the below. I've posted this over on the Sports Cards & Memorabilia forum as well, but it was suggested that I ask here as well. Sorry for the blanket spamming.

    Thanks!

I'm no guru by any stretch but I think the biggest thing working against your Yount is there isn't already a 10. If you can spot an imperfection chances are next to nill on a 10. The back is a bit tilted which is probably the only reason they need.

Speaking of outrageous have you seen this? -- Schmidt... yowza. My 9 isn't that strong, but sales like this almost make me want to fatten my wallet.

That price for the Schmidt was rediculous... A sellers dream come true, but clearly a couple cow's going at it in a case of more money then sense.

That card is worth 700. Ridiculously difficult card of the best 3rd baseman of all time.
A low pop common does not deserve 700, but a low pop Schmidt does.
Most mini Schmidts are "unsubmittable" out of the pack.
And when you factor in how many 9's are likely shorties, that one deserves a premium.
If I was collecting this set, I'd have bid higher than the end price.

Good thing you put that in there... I'd have sold mine for seven hundo. image

I agree thou on commons, I bought several low pop 9 commons from Felicia in psa 8 recently and looking at the purchase and what it would have cost me to buy those in psa 9... surprisingly happy. Going to focus on HOFers in 9s then once complete maybe revist some of the commons in 9s. Such sound words, but always have trouble following through... Mike's post above for example... image

That Schmidt card I believe was not a mini... It was however one of the 48 PSA 9's that exist out there.

They are tough cards for sure.

I have one and can appreciate it but I paid MUCH less for mine only a few months ago.

Hi....Please see my updated list above. Thanks to generous eBayer jbjr777 and board member Indy 78, I am down to needing 11 cards for my complete 1975 set. I started at 31 and I'm now down to 11, so I knocked 20 off. Any help you can provide to finish off this set would be much appreciated.

Gumby - I don't think that would ever bump to a 10. Reasons:

    1) I detect the slightest of diamond cut. compare the distance from the white inner border to the edges nearer the top of the photo in the orange, both left and right side. Then compare the same thing in the lower brown area. Slightest bit of tilt imo, and it makes the left side border look slightly wider than the right. And yes, I am taking into consideration how the card is positioned in the holder.

    2) The back diamond cut magnifies this.

Unless it's a total gift and the grader is asleep at the wheel, it won't go. Regardless, it's still a beautiful card.

Hi everyone, after about a 7 year hiatis, I have decided to try and recreate a 1975 PSA set. I was around in 2002-2004 time frame I believe and since then have not paid much attention to them but in the back of my mind I knew I wanted to someday redo the set as it was the first year as a kid I collected cards. I had built a PSA set to roughly 50% if i rember right before finances forced me to sell them (Still hurts that I had to do that) My goal is to eventaully have the full set in PSA 8 and 8 only. When I started before I used the 9's to get more 8's which is probably the same as I will do this time as to me the eye appeal of a good 8 is good enough for me in most cases. My biggest stickler is centering. I do not like a card that at a glance I can see is off center and I do shy away from those even if its in a 8 holder. Although buying already holdered cards is not nearly as fun as finding them raw and getting them graded and hoping for some 9 or 10's, econmoically it's the best way to build a set, especially starting out getting the common, commons as I call them. I know i'm not telling you veterens anything new here so I guess my main question is are the commons that were the tough gets in 2002-2004 still the tough gets? I can see going by the pop report some familar names (Tanana, McEnaney, Lis, Hughes, Perez) I woud like to ask if anybody would like to share which of the commons in 8 was their toughest get and how they finally got one whether they had to buy or found raw and got graded. I'm excited to be back. I have a lot of a little over 2000 raw cards I will be going through next week to try to find some hidden gems. Beyond that I have been hustling ebay for some lot groups as well as those I consider tougher commons at this point. Like I said the more common stuff I hope to get in bulk groupings to help keep the overall price down. From the dates of this thread it appears this group isn't as active as it use to be. I'm hoping its just a matter of nothing new to talk about rather than them leaving the collecting of the 75's. I'd love to hear from fellow 75 collectors out there.

Hey d, you and I have similar stories we both collected the 75 set around the same times 02-04 , i quit in 05-06 due to my daughter being born , picked it up and nearly finished

with 90% in '07 then sold for financial reasons. One thing I noticed was the dramatic price reduction in all the low pop cards this was all due to more subs. it really is a beautiful

set and would like to attempt it after i finish with my "68 baseball and like you I shoot for mostly psa 8

    Alright,
Some may call this over spamming but in retrospect I should have priced my cards before puting them on sale. So I am taking one year at a time.

These are all 1975 and all in PSA 9 NQ.

Hopefully people find something they like. There are low pops, high pops and several stars. I will cover postage on all sales over $50. Thanks....

Hey dcaudle...I am in the exact same situation as you. I put the '75s in the crawlspace in 2002, and just dug them out last week.

Could you post what you learned? I'm interested.

Also, does anyone keep track of what the 75s have been going for on ebay lately? I know the 'completed transactions' will show you what was recently sold. Back in 2002, I had a pretty good spreadsheet built up over two years of what things were selling for. I'd be willing to 'mind the store' going forward for someone who is willing to share historical data (both raw and graded)

Hey Rooster, I just wanted to let you know that someone is still out here. Say, in case you don't have access to the population reports, I've listed the 9s and 10s graded for each card. Just so you know how many of each are out there.

    47-17/0
    90-6/1
    120-20/0
    192-11/1
    196-11/0
    322-15/0
    343-8/0
    378-22/0
    402-13/1
    417-22/0
    481-10/0
    485-19/0
    555-15/1
    590-24/3
    603-20/0
    637-16/1
    647-10/1

I hope this info is helpful. Good Luck with your search!

Thanks for responding and I appreciate the info on the population report. I am pretty much aware of the fact that most are very difficult and pricey as I have been tracking the prices / availability for about 3 years or so.

Let me know if you come across anything else that could help.

    Talk to ya!!
