A thanks to the several folks that picked up the majority of the 148 PSA 9's that I needed to move. I do have just a few left. They are commons 417,447,496,571,648 for $5 ea ; 648 (pop 20s) $8, stars 122, 600,620@$8ea; and 201,202,205 leader cards @8 ea. All prices are ppd. If anyone is interested, please drop me a PM.

Hope to get my March submission back soon. Have about 100 78T still out. The waiting is the hardest part.

    Dan

Havin' been with you since you started the set - I think I sent you a bunch of raw from vending?

I still advise you to reconsider. At least give this a long cooling off period.

I recommend putting the set up till the summer's over and see how you feel by then.

I can't count how many people who've been very disappointed in themselves for selling their favorite set.

There's still plenty of 10 upgrades out there just waitin to be discovered! image

    You got my support

    Mike,

That vending you sent me a few years ago turned into my first couple 10's! I really wish I could buy you a beer and a dog at a game someday. You never know!

Thanks for the input Mike as you are at the TOP of my list image

    Hello All--

I am looking to complete my 1978 Topps A's team set in 9 or better. I am looking for 9s and 10s that I need. I have a couple of 8s I want to upgrade; am looking to fill holes with 9s or 10s; and upgrading 9s to 10s. I think you get the picture! Here is my set:

    My 1978 Topps A's Set

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

Finally got around to scanning this. Its a blank back Oscar Gamble proof card from the Topps Vault.

    image

I saw them selling a bunch of them on ebay a while back and thought it would make a cool compliment to my PSA set.

Come on guys, I need to finish out my 78 A's team set. Surely some of you have some extra 9s laying around that fill my needs, to at least get the complete set in 9 or better, I need these cards:

    554 Joe Coleman
    658 Manny Sanguillen

If someone can help me out on some or all of these cards, drop me a note. I would like to get this team set done. Thanks!

Anyone been noticing lately...seems like the entire 1978 set has been up on eBay, from 4SC...plus, today, about one-fourth of the set is up for auction in PSA 10!...many of them from rockbottomsports.

  • metsmets Posts: 243 ✭✭
Yes I finally got below 100 cards to go on my set, and need just 1 tiger and 1 Cubbie in order to get all my sets over the 75% mark for the free grades.
I could be wrong but I think many of the 10's rockbottom has up will not sell at their price point, but some will go very high (Reds Team and others) and they will make a nice sum of money next week. I may try for 1 or 2 cards like I did last time they had stuff up but I am looking forward to buying some more unopened for my free grades.

Also I was wondering if anyone here purchased the rack case D&A had for sale last week. It was prices at $3600 and did not last long so hopefully more nice 9's and 10's will be on the way.

I have 74 PSA 9 NQ's from my recent submission that I would like to offer to you 78ers that are interested. Please PM me and I'll send you a listing with prices.

I apologize to those that are offended by all the spam, but it seems to me that it is advantageous to offer these to a group that is already interested in the set. I have had good luck with this group of collectors in the past and I appreciate all your consideration in that regard.

In addition, after much consideration I am going to list my set (originally Bill's set with some upgrades) on the registry after the deadline probably sometime next month when I have some extra time on my hands. I decided to wait out of respect to those that have built sets from scratch where I bought Bill's set and had a great jump as a result. This way it will give plenty of time for those who wish to catch up by next years deadline (and probably will eventually anyway). It looks like there are a lot of high grade cards out there to improve ones set.

    Thanks for your time. Jon

My 2 vending boxes from BBCE will be here tomorrow. Everyone please say a little payer to the centering and corners Gods for me (or are they the same God?). If you guys are interested I will let you know how the boxes turn out, with scans.
  • metsmets Posts: 243 ✭✭
Absolutely show them off here. I hope you do better than I did. I purchased three boxes and did not do that well. Good luck

Mets - Where did you get them from?
  • metsmets Posts: 243 ✭✭
I did get them from Steve - 2nd time I have tried vending and will not try again, Racks were by far the best with wax 2nd. Wax has a lot of nice cards but it alwasy seems like the star card has the wax stain or the gum stuck to it. I have not yet tried cello but may try to find some. If PSA ever starts graded rack packs I am planning on having at one of each graded. I still have a nice rack with Murray on top from the rack case I purchased last year.

Good luck, I am looking forward to hearing how you do. Let's go Mets (or at least Jackson Todd)image

  • nam812nam812 Posts: 10,583 ✭✭✭✭✭
How recent was your vending purchase from Steve? Wondering if ours were from the same case. Also, what did you find to be wrong with them corners, centering, (im sure it wasnt tampering), and if you graded, how did they turn out?
  • metsmets Posts: 243 ✭✭
I purchased them only about 1 1/2 to 2 months ago when he purchased the vending run. Out of the 3 boxes I felt only 30-40 were worth grading almost (all from 1 box). And no I do not think they were tampered with in any way. Top grade from vending was a 9 mostly 8's I did get 1 or 2 10's but I included a few cards from the rack case (still some 10's after 200+ cards submitted) It should also be noted I was submitting star cards and only cards I needed If the Jackson Todd has the UFO as Bill called it they are probably from the same run I did post a few pictures a few pages back.

Sorry I did delete them. Did UPS arrive yet?
  • nam812nam812 Posts: 10,583 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes the UPS man finally made it to my door, and the vendings have been opened to mixed results. I havent gone trough them with scrutiny yet, but I feel there are lots of gradeable commons, but more that arent. The 2 boxes yielded 2 Molitors (both splotched), 1 Ryan, 1 Murray (real nice centering), and plenty of Hall of Famers. And yes, my 1 Jackson Todd did have the UFO. image Here are a few scans:

Nice pulls, especially considering they are from vending, I think you got a sweet box, must have been in the middle of the case as the corners are sharper than most cards you pull from vending. The Murray is a screamer, slightly OC top to bottom, but a very sweet card.

Carlton and the Rose RB look like PSA 9 worthy, too. Congrats!

Offhand, does anyone know roughly what the ratio is for Mollie RCs with the smudge to without? How scarce are they?

So what should we '78ers do about card #374?

I don't know about you guys, but I only recently found out about the "Red stitch" version and the "Black stitch" version. It has to do with the stitching on the baseball in the upper right hand corner of the card's obverse.

I couldn't figure out why Vintage Card Pricing listed 727 cards in the set, until I entered my card number 374 and saw the two versions. Mine happens to be the Black stitch version. I am not sure if either card is a "scarcity" or, heaven forbid, an error.

How dare Topps make an error in our wonderful set anyway!!

Should we beseech PSA for a Version A on this card? Appeal for a 1978 Master Set? And if we are going to do that, are there any other variations worth declaring? I hear loose talk about a Barry Foote variation, for example.

    What does everyone think?

Wow had to go to page 4 to dig this thread up!

Still have 16 9's NQ left to sell if anyone is interested. Also have 29 8's NQ.

The 9's are 225,281,307,317,323(2),326,421,439,454,462,496,544,571,648. Would sell these for $5 each. Also have 259 Dodgers Team for $8. All prices would be ppd.

Send me a PM if interested or if you want a list of the 8's.

Look like the pops of the 9 and 10's have gone way up in the last few months. Who knows how much more product is out there. Good luck!
