P.S. With this addition, my set will hit 100%! (.But I'll have to wait forever, as it will be submitted with approx. 600+ cards in a special bulk deal!)
Looking for some help with the following upgrades:
481 Jackson Todd PSA 9 or better 538 Johnnie LeMaster PSA 7, 8, 9 or better
I can't see the corners on that Lemaster but centering looks 9ish to me. Good luck! Reverse can be better but we all know PSA does NOT stick to its published guidlines when it comes to reverse centering. At least with this time period that is for SURE!
One thing I've noticed is that both times I've gotten 1976-79 sets, the 1978 was always the strongest condition wise. In fact, my current 1978 raw set is an absoulte BLAZER and I think there's quite a few that have a good shot at 9's and 10's if I ever had the heart to get anything graded. Perhaps Topps made better quality card stock that year compared to other 1970s sets?
Did you ever send in for your free grades. I just got my forms and am working on them now. We will see I was looking to get some more unopened but decided just to sent in the best of the rest and roll the dice.
Hope you are doing well (and getting enough sleep)

No, I never sent in the many free grades I have coming to me. Quite honestly, I have NO .... and I mean NO time anymore. Between my newborn (5months), work, and the house I just have no idea how I ever found time to do what I did with this and other sets. I really really really really can't fathom having the time that I used to spend on my cards. Its just not there ...... EVER. No complaint that is for sure. I am just amazed at how the routine can change so quickly and so surely.
I will make PSA fess up at some point I hope I am also HUGELY grateful that I "finished" my 78 set when I did.
Hey guys. Back at the begining of June I posted raw scans of my two vending boxes from BBCE, and now they are finally back from PSA. There are over 20 (mostly PSA 9s) up for auction that end on August 12th. Feel free to browse.
Anyone have a bulk lot of 78's they'd be willing to unload? I don't need all 9's & 10's - in fact, my budget is more in line for 8's and 9's that are not low pops. Thanks!!!!
I bought a '78 set about six months, a couple months later I bought a nice lot of "pack fresh" cards off ebay....and amazingly, they were pack fresh. However, I could still use upgrades on at least 50 cards I imagine.
So anyone here with a lot of nice raw (PSA 7-8 range) at a great price I can make a list for?
I do have a few PSA 9's I could trade: 62, 240, 324, 343, but would rather purchase (cheaply) if possible.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
That is one awesome set you are putting together there. Make sure you let us know when you get the grades back for Lemaster that one also looked very nice in the scan.
Somebody, pleeeeze help! Looking to complete my 1978 Topps registry! I'm missing only the: 1978 Topps #538 Johnnie LeMaster card! I'll take one in PSA 7, 8 or 9 !! Or a nice raw example!
I've been at 99%+ on my 1978 Topps baseball registry set, for a while now. For those of you out there that need just one more card to reach that 100% on a major set, well it is a painful experience.
I needed a 1978 #538 Johnnie LeMaster to complete my set!
Out of the blue, a fellow set builder PM'd me to let me know he would be sending me a PSA 8 LeMaster, and if I would ever upgrade to a PSA 9 (which is next to impossible!), would I kindly send him back the PSA 8?
When I upgraded some of the '78's to PSA 10's, I sold him some of my PSA 9's, at low prices, just to be nice to a fellow set builder! (I've done that to a couple of folks building their 1978 and 1976 sets!)...
But I never expected this degree of kindness in return!
So congrats! To me for now being at 100% on my 1978 Topps.
But a bigger congrats to a fellow CU poster, who displayed a high degree of kindness today! (i.e.: QUIK - Jeff)
Congratulation Bob on 100%. It was a very nice gesture from a board member to do that for you, but I understand why they did it you have always been a big help in filling in the gaps.
I bought the lot of 1200 PSA 9s in the Mile High auction and will be breaking the lot @ $5.00 for the first card and $4.00 per subsequent if anyone wants to fill a chunk of his wantlist.

I have decided to give up on finishing my 78 set and am planning to in the next week or so to start selling it. If someone out there is looking to start a fairly nice set take a look and PM with any offers (FYI I have put just over $20,000 into it, but I do not expect to get that out of it. Although I will try to minimize losses) If no one is interested I hope to have some time to begin listing it this weekend or at the latest next weekend. I have not decided how many cards to list each week but I will list them over a few weeks It is currently listed the # 8 current set Gab's 1978's The first set I collected. I have already asked John about his experiences selling the set he purchased if anyone else has any ideas LMK.

Here are some quick stats:
1978 topps set 726 cards in the set I am missing 28 (have 698)
I have approximately 291 10's
15 - 8's the rest are 9's
If you have any questions just ask
Thanks,
George
