SNOW WAS ON MY SCANNER AND NOT ON THE CARD !!!!!! >>
Dan,
With all due respect, even if I pass u (i.e., set rating ,etc.), I can never duplicate what u have done, personally submitting 100's of cards to be graded in your set, not to mention all the beauties you have offered to me.
I can only imagine how much effort you have put into building your wonderful set. My set may look good "on paper", but we know the real truth, as to "the blood, sweat and tears" that went into putting your set together.
That goes for all the rest of you "set-builders" that rip packs, boxes and cases, go thru endless inventory at shows, buy dozens of "raw cr@p" on ebay, just to find a few nice cards, that just, maybe be worthy of a PSA mint grade.
Me? I'm just a guy who had the resources to buy 700+ already graded PSA 9's and 10's over the past few years, and assemble a nice 1978 set. But I do not even belong in the same league, as you set-builders (u all know who u are!), who pain stakingly submit raw card after card to PSA, to build their beautiful sets.
Thank you for the kind words! But please, don't diminish what you are doing. Of course having the resources to buy alot of cards in a relatively short time make things easier BUT you still have to LOVE the set and that is what COUNTS! I could have done what you are doing I suppose. I chose to buy a good amount of unopened wax boxes and a rack case and yes, the unending search for nice raw. It would have been financially prudent for me to just buy the cards graded like you are but I enjoy the hunt and satisfaction of finding my own cards. No matter, you are a GREAT asset to the 78 set rd and you are right ..... your set is a SLAMMER on paper already and I am sure it is a SLAMMER up close and personal too. Keep up the tremendous work rd!
Which makes me wonder: if both the '78 Reggie and the '78 Ryan appeared on eBay as PSA 10's at the same time, which one would command the higher price?
Frank - if you could choose between the two, who would you take? Bill and Mike - how about you guys?
Dan - would you jump in for that Ryan 10, or would you lie in wait for your 9? (I think I know your answer!)
Bob - would you be satisfied with 9's in both cards, or do you covet both of them in 10?
(As for me, since I am happy with the centering on both of my nines, I would not participate in the 10 auction. Which gives you guys one less competitor!)
Cards off of your low pop list went in last tuesday. I would think PSA has the cards by now. I threw two tag ons of Carew---a 1971 Topps Coin that has a shot of a 8, and a 1969 MLBPA Pin of Rod Carew that has a legit shot of a 9. There is no cracking at all on the pin.
Ugh, Just got in and saw the email from bbcexchange about the vending cases they just broke... needless to say 2 are on the way..Glad I listed all the set in the team set area... 29 free grades coming soon hope I did not offend anyone but free grades are free grades.
Just wondering if any one else is getting second chance offers from the recent 78 ebay auction from south fl heat. I got a second chance on Wise which ended at 124. with bids of 121 and 43 above me I have not yet got a second chance at the Reds Team or Bloomberg (Then I know it would be fake)

What disturbs me is that I WON that Brewers' Team card! And I already paid for it, too. Item #150103197582, right? And you guys have received 2nd chance offers?

edit: I'm leaving for Vegas today for (5) days. A one day seminar on "hard money lending" (should be pretty boring!). Plus I'll be stuck in Las Vegas for 4 whole days! ...What to do? Oh well, I'll figure something to do in Vegas at the Belliago for 4 days (like the buffet line or Texas Holdem, or something! LOL!). Hopefully, when by the time I return, we will know by then if this Seller is "full of bull", or ok!
I see you are getting close on completion of this bad boy at about a 9.50- congrats as 726 cards is tough!! I am looking to finish up a raw 78 set. I am looking for cards that are pack fresh but did not make your PSA 9 or 10 pile. I have extras I could trade and would prefer to do that instead of purchase. If some of you are interested in helping me out, please drop me a note and I can send you my list. Thanks!
yes and yes!!! its been a long search for that Ryan. Mike's card is a better example then the average one that pops up on e-bay from time to time. I am stoked!
Just wanted to let you all know I did receive my cards from the South FL Heat auction the other day. I don't know why they did not respond to e-mail but the cards arrived safely.
Also my 3 vending boxes also arrived so I will be busy for a little while.
Mets - were these all cards you actually won the auction from South FL Heat or were some you got through a second chance offer? I received the cards from South FL Heat in which I won the auctions, but none of ones I purchsed through the second chance offers (yet - fingers crossed)... One of the second chance offers I did take was that Brewers Team Card (PSA #81725641) so I'm curious if the person who actually won that card got it. Thanks!

It was the last card I needed to upgrade to a PSA 9. I picked off my last 3 cards this week. I wanted to finally "finish" after years of working on the set.
I'm sure the next PSA 9 Jackson Todd will be much cheaper.
I'll finish scanning sometime late next week and open the set.

Kind of a mind-boggler: I had a PSA 9 John Denny #609 for sale last night on eBay, and it didn't even bring an opening bid of $1.99!! For a pop 13, I was shocked!
All right I just finished going thru the 3 boxes. A little disappointed at all the dinged corners but there were a few nice ones. I only got 1 Molitor w/o the stain but it was beat up pretty bad it was the last card in one of the boxes. No decent Ryan's 2 well centered Murray's but with bad corners. There four were not bad any chances for 9's??
Congratulations Mike I can't wait to take a look at your set.
WOW that is a very nice Ryan. Congratulations again on grabbing that beautiful card. Did you get your team sets listed yet?
Yes, I was not happy to see the UFO by the side of Todd's head otherwise the card on the left would have been a shoe in for a 9 now i don't think so. My guesses were Blomberg 9 (I have 2 of them SOM) Foster 8 or 9oc and the Todd's 8's. Any opinions?
Yes, Dan they can from Steve's new vending case. Almost 350 cards had corner damage out of 3 boxes. I know vending boxes the cards near the ends of the boxes are usually no good but that's limited to about 15 or so on each side of the box so a had figured about 30-40 cards per box would be no good. I will say though the middle of the 3rd box was very good both on centering and corner wear. It will be funny If I can get a couple of good grades out of it say a Todd or Forster I will be very very pleased with the purchase.

Just wanted to let you all know I did receive my cards from the South FL Heat auction the other day. I don't know why they did not respond to e-mail but the cards arrived safely.
Also my 3 vending boxes also arrived so I will be busy for a little while.

Mike - congratualtions! It'll be great to see your set opened up.
dgriffin - my Brewers Team arrived safely today. Could those Second Chance offers have been phish scams?
Today's Speier leaves me 23 short of a "pure" 9/10 set...I feel as if I've been working on this since 1978! C'mon already, Nick!
The popularity of this set has grown tremendously recently, and I think it's because of Dan starting this thread! Our leader!
Nick
If you upgrade those 8's you will be putting a rear end whoopin on me! Now get to work
And I am no leader my friend! Just a sap who loves the 1978 Topps issue to NO END
