    Nick,

My Essian needs to be upgraded too. He is defiantely one of my least favorite nines. The Smalley on the other hand is MINT. I pulled that baby out of my rack case last last year!

    nick,

I'm not looking to down grade the set man. Wedding or no wedding, my set will CLIMB in the future. Even if I take a break. A baby is not far on the horizon, the house is getting a big addition, bla bla bla bla ..... if I ever do break the set up you will be notified PRONTO. Just don't expect that to happen image

Don't hurt to ask though right? Hell, I smell blood every now and then too image

    Dan-

Notify your wedding guests about the "PSA set registry". I hear registering weddings is the thing to do. You'll have the set completed in no time.

    Good luck!

P.S. Stay away from ebay for awhile so you can save money for your wedding. image

    Dan...

    I think you misunderstood me.

I only mentioned cards 98 and 471 because in an earlier post, you said that "you had some extra 78's lying around." #471 in PSA 9 - Roy Smalley - was one of them on your list.

I wasn't poaching on your Registry set at all! I was just trying to purchase one of your duplicates.

But I fully understand how a guy two months away from his wedding day might be a little confused at times.

Meanwhile, Mike...I LOVE your Registry idea for wedding gifts! If I ever get married again, I will definitely register on the PSA site!

Ohm no! I just realized who is the one REALLY confused. ME.

I thought it was you, Dan...but the earlier post I am referring to is from blondmoment, not from you. Sorry about that!!!

So...my question should have been directed to Jerry: is card #471 - Roy Smalley - still available? And also, card #98?

Whew. I'm going to pour myself another glass of Yellow Tail.

Jerry> In my experience, you'll have to examine the BVG card pretty closely. BVG is pretty well known to holder cards that are obviously sheet-cut. Owning a sheet-cut example may or may not bother you, but it definitely bothers some. One of the easiest ways to tell a BVG sheet-cut is when you see grades like BVG9 - corners=9, edges=9, centering=9.5, surface=8. I've had many BVG/BGS cards cross, but you have to be a bit selective.

those 10's were listed by one of our own registry guys. $22.00 bucks a pop is a good price. Those listed may go for just under or over if a true auction.

seabass, the Watson would probably go for over $100 and maybe much higher than that. Alot of the registry guys need that card (including myself). Unfortunatley, I would not be able to participate in any bidding wars for this tough card since I am getting married next month. image

I have both the Bevacqua and the Indians Team in PSA 8. The Bevacqua is listed on Naxcom for $5.95 at the following link: Bevacqua Link.. I have not yet listed the Indians card but I have it registered in my set so I know that I have it. Send me a PM with your shipping information. I'll sell you both cards for $15 (i.e. $6 each plus $3 shipping). I have a lot more 78 8s if anyone needs them to complete sets. You can find many of them listed on http://www.southfloridasportscards.com. If you don't see the cards you need, feel free to send me a PM or email.

Does anyone have a #235 Tim McCarver PSA 9 for sale or know where I can find one? PM me if you have it or email me at brianjigoe@cox.net

I think your in the right price range Dan on the Brett card. My guess would be between $600-$700.

    Brian,

DAMN! I had noticed two PSA 9 McCarvers on e-bay the past 5 weeks Brian. I will keep an eye out as I am sure you will now too. What else are you looking for in PSA 9?

    I smell a conspiracy!

Hacker: you outbid me on that Dempsey, and you will then pass it on to Dan for your cost? Sheesh! It's tough enough out there, let alone against a cartel!

Meanwhile, is anyone surprised at the bidding on musky's set? I am amazed that it's near 7K already! Guess there's hope for us all...

I've just started trying to fill in some of the holes in my set with 9's and I can't believe the prices. What's the deal on owning a 9 over a 10? I have bought more 10's in the past few months for less money than what 9's have been going for. Doesn't this seem backwards? I also see 10's just siitting on Ebay with minimal prices. Would someone care to explain this. I know some are just into collecting 9's and others are just collecting "the cards and not the holders" but this doesn't make sense.

    Help explain

    brian,

those crazy prices on 9's are just the volatile action with low pops, certain team cards, and of course stars/HOF'ers IMO. Most 9's can be had for a song. I saw that you added those 9's! I am salivating over the Ike Hampton and especially the Johnnie LeMaster among others image

Yes, I too am surprised that Bill is bidding on the muskycaptain. Did he save all of his 10's from his retired set? Maybe combining his 10's with Musky's would put him at Number Two or One...?

Musky's set alone looks like it would have been a solid Number Three, let alone merging it with what Bill had.

Oh, yeah...the current price north of 7K stuns me! Musky's set is composed of 75 10's, 643 9's, six 8's and two 7's; mine is 51 - 646 - 29 - 0, and on my spreadsheet, based upon recent action, I had mine pegged at $3,896...and I was thrilled with that figure!

You're lucky you have a Forster, Dan...or there would go that 1,000 square foot addition!

(Addition? 1,000 square feet? 1,000 square feet is larger than my entire living quarters here in Santa Monica! Wow!)

    Nick,

My existing house is 1,000 square feet. A starter ranch if you will which I bought 11 years ago. This won't fly for us in the future so off we go image I'm just glad I have a spacious backyard that will easily handle this ..... however, my collecting budget is going to be HAMMERED for a good while.

As happy as I am that I have the Forster I am equally frustrated at the 29 other PSA 9's I can't seem to locate.

Also, I am pretty sure spikemax sold MOST if not ALL of his 10's a few months back.

    Dan,
From time to time I'll view this thread and tonight is the first time I went into your set and viewed some of the cards. All I can say is WOW! Practically every card scanned and with centering on the vast majority of cards I looked at being very, very sweet. Frankly, cards like the Buckner, Blue, and a host of others would have decent shots at 10's, although I'm not familiar with what's allowed 10-wise concerning chipping or smudges. Some older cert numbers (not the 0 series if you have any) might be likely candidates as there was a point a few years ago where many issues were very harshly graded.

I hope you stay the course and find the remaining cards. I'm sure it's proving a challenge but like all really great things, the reward will be worth it.

    Bill
