  • I would never touch cello either..... those corners get dinged easily with the tight wrap.

Barkus... thanks for taking my offer on the Fingers PSA 10

    Brian
  • No problem Brian. Thanks for the business. Naxcom is different than ebay in that I have to set a sell price and then work down (on ebay auctions are bid up from the minimum). I am happy to take reasonable offers on Naxcom so long as I didn't have to overpay to get the card. The Fingers is very nice. You will like it.

Here's a scan of your new card:

Let me know if you would like me to email you the scan.

Just noticed a 1978 Jim Palmer was graded 10 in my submission. Is that one tough?

Just looked at Dave & Adam's site and apparently, they're still advertising a 3-box rack case @ $3100. And Dave, if you think $3100 is high, for several months they had 78 3-box cases listed at $4200!

I would pay $3,100 no problem if the case was as pristine as the one I bought last year from Steve Hart!

$2600- $2800 is wholesale price. I just sold boxes in that range.
  • softparadesoftparade Posts: 9,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
I would have no problem paying 3,100 for a FULL UNOPENED CASE today. Again, I paid $2,800 for a unbelievable case just last spring from Steve Hart. Its all about how comfortable you feel with the seller and if you trust his knowledge about the item being sold. Single boxes are a different animal. The premium to me is more for a bonafide unopened CASE then a box in which the top is easily flipped open and its contents searchable.

  • I just found a rubbermaid container in the back of my closet that had a box of 78's in it. Among them were about 200 commons and lesser known stars that are absolutely mint!! In America we have so much stuff that it's amazing what we forget we have!

I finally have hit the 9.00 GPA mark on this set. And with some PSA 8 to PSA 9 upgrades later this week I should be at about 9.03 or so. Also, finally at 100% later this week with only 18 PSA 8's left to upgrade to 9's or 10's out of the 726 cards. What a monster! image

    Well,

I hit on one! Watson! PSA 9. Two 8s on Forster. I will have to look at them again to consider whether to resubmit! If you all need any of these, we can try and work something out $ wise. Again, I really thought there would be more 10s here. Strange.

What a low pop smorgasbord on e-bay right now. Why is it that they always seem to pop up at once? I know spikemax as most of them listed but man, months go by with the usual suspects listed and then WHAM. image

I have had a nice OPC set since about 1980. They are so rough cut, it looks like they were cut with a serrated scissors. They have a different gloss than the topps cards. The can get a diamond cut, so beware in buying unopened boxes. 4 Sharp has sold some in the past at very low prices in 9 and 10. I graded the Ryan from my set and it got a 9. I sold it on ebay and I think it only got $85 or something. If I had known, I probably would have kept it for the set. Oh well.

Talk about a record turnaround for the $5.00 special. Mailed on 06 June - received and logged for processing on June 12th, grades posted on the morning of June 14th. Not sure if I rushed my inspection of the cards before sending, had 3 PSA-5's. 29 of the 60 graded PSA-9 and one PSA-10. I mailed out more 78's yesterday, any chance I get the same turn-around-time?

  • Can anyone tell me how redsoxjeffs 77 set could possibly beat out Franks 78 set for modern set of the year. Thats gotta be one of the biggest jokes of the year. PSA must be pushing interest in getting 77's submitted, its a freakin joke.
    sheesh!!!!!
  • WH - my last registry speceial was also turned around in six days with a weekend included! Nice job PSA!

Anyone have a PSA 9 #540 Steve Carlton available?

You have a knock out set already. Can't wait to view your additions. Have you bought any unopened recently? AND are you working on any other projects?

  • I haven't bought any unopened boxes since the last box break.... thought about it but just haven't. I've been putting together a player set and messing around with the 1955 bowmans but nothing really inolved other than this 1978 set.
  • I just received my Murray rookie back today and was really excited that it received a 9. I actually took it to an authorized PSA submission center, it shipped a week after my submission, and came back before the submission that I mailed!

I want to give a thanks to Bill and Dan for each coming up with a couple of cards... Thanks!

Several months ago I sold off a PSA 8 lot to David Barkus. I just bought three cards back from him off his website. Now all I need is 6 more cards: #103, 183, 231, 319, 400 (PSA 9) and 481. If anyone has an 8 or 9 for sale... please contact me.

    Thanks for all your support,

    Brian,
Thanks for the business. I have several hundred more 78s to list on my site, but I am overloaded with work and I have a significant backlog. I have over 4,000 PSA graded cards to list in total right now and just can't find the time. If anyone is looking for a 78 PSA 8 or 9 that they can't find, feel free to email me at Barkusd@gtlaw.com or send me a PM. I just might have the cards you need.

Wow! What a shakeup to the Registry, since I left home three weeks ago.

Brian - your set is truly amazing. As Jack Buck said, "I can't believe what I just saw!"

Frank - let us never take you for granted. You've led and mentored our group for years, and you'll always be "the one," if not #1.

Bill - see? I told you not to give up your '78 set months ago. Now look what you've done!

Dan - by the sheer force of your personality and your attempts at keeping this thread alive, you should definitely be in the Top Five.

Mike - no question, a wonderful set. Wish I could see it, though...

Though Saturday Night Fever has been 100% for a couple of years, I am still in dire need of upgrades. I need 37 more 9's to replace the 8's, and I have 53 really trashy looking 9's that I must upgrade for my own sanity. I bid on 10's of those cards when I see them
but of course, I would take a flawless 9. I will be upgrading those 80 cards over the next few years.

I appreciate all of the help from everybody, and I am proud to be in the Registry of one of the hottest sets from the 70's!

    Have terrific summers, everyone!

    Nick
  • Tony,
I have a raw 710 (see scan below) that looks like a solid 9. I will try to submit it soon. What does everyone else think this card will grade? Centering on back is not perfect, but is better than 90/10.

    Nick,

by "sheer force of my personality"? Is that a good thing? image

Three things suprised me tonight on e-bay. I was a bit suprised that I won the Doyle PSA 9 for $130 bucks (crazy money I know) and I was VERY suprised that I lost the Dwight Evans PSA 9 with a max bid over $90. Also, it was interesting that the guy who I beat on the Doyle card beat me on the Evans. I have never seen him before bidding on 78's ...... weird image

$130 crazy for the Doyle? Im not so sure. $528 for a 1972 Clyde Wright in 10 is what surprised me.

    Gas,

the Evans card has a pop of 18 in PSA 9. HARDLY a low pop. Some dude just all of the sudden flys in with crazy bids? Crazy being a non registry guy that is. Anyway, since he bid strong on the Doyle I suspect he is a big Red Sox collector. Or just a crazy one image
