$20,500 is nice, but certainly not waht I expected. I will be very upset if the sets does not sell for close to SMR. With the number of PSA 9 low pops and very high end examples, the set will hopefully top the $35,000 mark. It is a gorgeous set that would take years to duplicate (if ever). My timing was perfect for getting in when other guys were breaking up their sets.

    Barkus,

Just wondering .... why even sell such a stellar set??? Trust me, I know it is none of my buisness, but you don't seem like the type of guy who lost out to lust for so long and now realizes you must sell because the bills are piling up.

The 72 set was never my passion. I enjoyed putting the set together but I have other sets I enjoy a lot more. At the moment I'm not sure what I want to collect so I decided to sell my 3 complete sets and focus on finishing my other projects.

There must be a hell of a reserve on this auction considering they expect you to pay $20 for insurance.............

...if the reserve is that big they should throw in S/H!!!

If anyone wants an excel spreadsheet for the 1972 Topps Baseball set give email me at dwedge@clevelandnet.com

You can put in the grade, how much you paid for the card (for inventory and/or comparison purposes), the grade, when you received the card, put it in your registry and tracks grades 7, 8, 9 or 10 with a tally at the end. Keep track of your GPA, Rating, Percentage Done, how many you have to go, etc.

    Dale,

Your set is coming along rather nicely.....I have said it before and will say it again.....great job with the pictures and biographs.

The offer of a spreadsheet is awesome, and should be taken by any newbie set builders. reading this thread. I wished I had kept track of individual card costs. ( I do have only a running total of money spent for my set)

    Someone overpaid for that card.

I've been picking up cards here and there for an anticipated new run at the set. So far Bench, Bench ia , Rose, Munson ia, Aaron, Mc Covey, Carlton TR , Stargell, Seaver and Yaz all in well centered PSA 8 for way less than the crummy looking Gallagher.

In 2 years, I think I can build this set in PSA 8 or better for less than 8 k.

I see there is a Tim Foli IA up for auction.....like I predicted, one of the newly graded, but not the best centered example........................Good luck......I am glad I do not need the card..............

Boy, that Foli IA is already above $70....I'll let Bill win that one and I'll wait for the next one. No sense in pushing Bill's cost for the card any higher than that.

Bill's set is not listed.....It is my understanding from Bill that he has an Imac computor which isn't compatible with the software here for him to enter his set......With his past set which is still listed on the All-Time list and sold off over a year ago, he had to send the serial numbers to PSA and they punched in the data for him.

When I last was in contact with Bill ( about 6 weeks ago) he was down to about 40 or so cards still needed.....I am sure he has filled in a number of those empty slots.

Foli IA ended at $245.50! Wow!

I was able to pick up two tough cards that I've been looking for...McCormick & Kennedy. I'm sitting at 31 cards to complete (not counting the couple of '7s' that I've added and the one '9oc).

Boy, I started the set out like gangbusters but I've really hit the '72 Topps "wall" with these low pops. It seems that it's been forever in attempting to finish the set. Oh well, we'll just keep pluggin' away. image

Most folks know that I want to collect a straight 8 set, so I was wondering if anyone wanted to trade their 8s for my 9s (and a little cash or other cards that I need for my set) to help them out.

Well..........I see the Bill Novick set has been added to the registry ( still more to add but right now up to card #600 or so).......................

Bill, I know you read this .....So may I say you got a VERY impressive set there and I think I can speak for the rest of us and say we are glad to see your set listed.........

...also glad to see that your finally got the "monkey card off your back:" with your recent purchase of a Foli IA card.

So Bill...did you have to get PSA to punch it in for you or do you have a new putor????

    Jami

PS.....still wondering what happened to Dale Wedge's set???

I am looking for a 72 Norm Cash #150 in PSA 8 or 9. I'll pay way over SMR for either. Please PM me if you have one of these available. I have sweet stuff to trade if you'd rather trade than sell.

Regular Clementes are available at all times in 8 and every couple to three months in 9. The IA is a little harder to find.

I need the Cash too, so if/when one becomes available it should get some action.

The Clemente #309 in PSA 9 comes up more often then one thinks........not quite once a week but close........The card has the highest pop in PSA 9 in the entire set. (124?)...............Price for the card runs from about $250-$320.....I wouldn't ( and didn't) pay more then $270 for it.

Congrats Jami! Glad that we communicated before the Michael IA ended. image

I'm sitting at 28 cards to go (25 if you count my couple of 7s and that 9oc) to finish the set.

Unfortunately for me (fortunately for someone else), I'll be selling my set along with just about all my sets soon as there have been some bills (child's schooling, etc) along with some committments that I have made which brought me to this decision. I'll still be bidding on the ones that I need to finish the set, so keep on communicating with me guys! image

I have a bunch of 1972 Topps in PSA 8 running right now.

Plus (even more exciting) is that I have a nice batch of 1971's I am working on to get up in the next few days, and two POP 1!!!
One is a PSA 10!!! and one is a PSA 9. Plus about a dozen other PSA 9's and about a hundred PSA 8's.
A really nice collection, mostly commons.

    Jami,

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have a nicely centered 8 they are willing to sell?

Every Monday morning PSA upgrades its pop report...............I always check to see if any low pop cards have any newly graded that might come up on EBAY. I usually first check the Red's Rookie card to look for the elusive PSA 9..( still none)..............I found it curious this week that the PSA 8 pops of some cards actually went DOWN this week. There appears to be one less Red's Rookie, Houk, and Mcrae IA card.

Someone could have cracked open an 8 and sent the slip in with the card for a re-grade. Unlikely.
