I agree the Ford is undervalued. It was the hardest star card for me to find in 8. I found it at the National in AC a few years ago and paid the price the dealer quoted me and didn't even bother to negotiate cause I was so happy to find it. image

<< <i>You know, I have seen a lot of eBay auctions on 57s where pauljas has bid. I then take a look at his auctions and wonder if anyone else is getting tired of reading how rare and ultra-tough his run-of-the-mill, marginal PSA 7s are? >>

Can you elaborate a bit more as to why you think his 7's are less appealing then other sellers? Besides the bull crap with ULTRA TOUGH and RARE and bla bla bla that so many sellers over use have you had bad experiences with this seller? I have to say that many of his cards look sweet to me.

It's more than just the hype but he constantly says that they are "high-end" or "very close to 8" when in fact, they are only marginally better than a 6. The same thing with his 8. Assuming they were accurately graded by PSA, they not any worse than others selling the same low end cards but either he doesn't know what the grading standards are or he's trying to con gullible buyers into thinking they are getting something better (as if wanting to crack/submit). Now I know this goes on all of the time in every single eBay category but pauljas is a frequent seller (and a low-ball bidder) on our beloved 57s that it becomes a turn off.

I was updating my set with a few cards and alot of pictures and I noticed Buc blew right by me into the 33 spot. Way to go Steve you suck.... I was looking at some of the better sets and realized that there is alot of action up near the top. Most of the top 10 has been updated recently and to crack the top 20 it takes around a 7.20 GPA.

I did add pictures to all my cards for everyones enjoyment.

I am slowly buying PSA 7 commons (I have 14 as a start) and will probably fill in stars in the 5-6 range. I still don't know if I am going to get on a budget to actually go after the entire set. One thing is certain, I WILL NOT have a GPA of 7.00 when all is said and done. image

I won't crack the top 20 either (not that it matters to me anyways). I think I'll be around 6.75 when I reach 100%. Still not sure how or if I'll be upgrading all of my PSA 6s. I do look forward to getting back to my 1963 set as well.

I am a handful of cards away from completing my '57 Topps set in PSA 8.

    Link to my collection

I want to finish the "commons" before moving on to the more valuable HOF's.

The 2 PSA 8's that I am looking for are #65 Moon and #139 Kretlow.

Any assistance or leads is appreciated.

Please feel free to email me.

I would say the Mays card is still the best looking card I have so far for the set, regardless of grade. It is beyond my comprehension to see this in a 9.

Good grief. What will it take for me to get a Brooks Robinson in PSA 7? There was a pretty good one ending tonight and my snipe didn't even go off at $410. This card "books" for $350 and it went for nearly $500.

Does anyone have a nicely centered one I can buy? Please?

Sometimes I don't get it. I see this card Surkont PSA 7 with at least 12 bids and over $60 when earlier this month, I bought one for $24.50. Maybe the bidders are fooled by the bolded item with a nice box around it?

    Steve,

I was wacthing that card too. Myself being a 57's newbie aside, I was scratching my head on that one.

That Surkont card is the toughest 8 in the set so a solid 7 shoud be about that price in my opinion. I know an 8 will go for over 700 next time on ebay.

New here, actually, not so new, but had to make a new account. I am doing the 1957 Set team by team, and need to finish off the Braves set... Here are some scans of what I have dug up. The Eddie Matthews has a major ink stain, and I don't know how much it drops the card's value. Also, the corners on the bottom of it came out funky in the scan, they are minty sharp. Just missing cards 271 and 343. Might consider getting the set graded once I finish it. What's the story on checklist 5/5?

Could someone provide a key to that Braves set?

I recognize Aaron, Mathews, Spahn, Bruton, Buhl (I have a nice raw of that one), Andy Pafko, Burdette and (I believe) Crandall, and Frank Torre, but the rest are a bit of a mystery. Also, I think the censor function isn't going to let me name the big first baseman, but I recognize him, too.

I may have a look into picking a few of those up. A great team, in the midst of a very successful four year run that saw them win two pennants and a great World Series.

I found a list last night after I wrote that and went to eBay to do a little research.

Going by Vintage Game's tower there, it goes, from top down, left to right -

Row 1: Juan Pizarro (gorgeous card), Dave Jolly.
    Row 2: Chuck Tanner.
Row 3: Bobby Thomson and Wes Covington
Row 4: Red Murff and Ernie Johnson (who is beloved by long time Braves fans for his long time work as a broadcaster)
Row 5: Felix Mantilla (another great card, his rookie) and Del Rice.
Row 6: Lew Burdette and Eddie Mathews.
Row 7: Joe Adcoque and Bob Buhl.
Row 8: Del Crandall and Andy Pafko.
Row 9: Bill Bruton and Ray Crone
Row 10: Warren Spahn and the team card.
Row 11: Johnny Logan and Henry Aaron
Row 12: Gene Conley and Frank Torre.

Slowly getting back into the game, doing a little bit at a time. Just got this card and it's now one of my favorites. I just love looking at the details in the background - the folks in the stands, the railings, the ushers, as well as Solly's uniform. I think this card exemplifies what makes this set truly great.

The Phillies player's cards have some of the best backgrounds, like softparade's Elmer Valo and your own Robin Roberts from earlier in the thread.

So many beautiful cards in that set. The grass behind Juan Pizarro looks like Paradise itself.

This week, there had been several hundred PSA 7 and 8 cards for sale on eBay (not counting the overhyped stuff that pauljas had). After going down the list, there was only 1 - as in ONE - that I needed for my set. That's the problem when you get to about 85% complete on a set, the pickings become slim.

    Steve,

Where have you been? I am down to 14 cards not counting cards I need to upgrade. I have been upgrading lately and have a double of #388 in PSA 7. I will trade or sell if you are interested. Let me know the one card you are going after and I will lay off if I need it as well.
