oh by the way, got my first 2 raw 57's graded....a piersall and a virdon both well centered (unlike most graded examples on ebay) came back a 7 and a 6. Im stoked about the Virdon as its the first one ive ever seen 50/50 centered....bought it raw on ebay and was praying it wasnt trimmed.

i guess ebay still does have decent raw to buy...ya just have to take the risk..sometime it pays off...other times you waste your cash.....i have more raw i now wish to have graded in the future that was just going to sell outright....we will see what happens!!!

By the way, those folks that are going to be or have already purchased cases/boxes of the 2006 Heritage set, keep us posted here to see what you pull.

CDC4 and I will be splitting a case and I can't wait to crack those, but I'd be interested to see what everyone gets. Plus, we can do some trading to complete our sets and all that good stuff too. image

I've been shut out in the last week or so from a few '57s that I've tried to purchase, but I'm not compromising on my bidding prices. I'm gonna stand firm and keep this a marathon and not a sprint for me. I've gotten to nearly a quarter of the set in approximately three months. So, I'm going at a nice pace. We'll see what happens when I get to the lower pop commons and those toughie star cards!

    T.Williams / M.Mantle / S.Koufax / B.Robinson / D.Drysdale / F.Robinson / W.Mays / H.Aaron / J.Bunning / R.Clemente / Yankee Sluggers

Those should cost me a pretty penny when all is said and done.

I'm collecting this set too. About halfway there. Just picked up a ton of 57's all raw from an older gentleman here in town - over 200 of them, with stars except the Big 8 (Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Koufax, F. Rob, B. Rob, and Mantle/Berra). If anyone has any specific needs, let me know, most range from EX to NM. I'm going to follow this thread with interest from now on!

LOL....the ICON of mine is one of the funniest men on the planet (well, I might be exaggerating a bit)....Ricky Gervais. He's the actor/writer from the original "The Office" show (not the new NBC version) from England. He was "David Brent" on the show and he was awesome.

    The Office Site

I can't wait for my half of a Heritage case to get here! On the 1957 front, I've picked up a few cards here and there and am still looking for low priced PSA 6s or 7s to add to my set. Anyone out there have any that they've recently upgraded?

Those Christmas Packs were after market product and are notorious for bearing EXMT or even beat up cards. I haven't heard of too many success stories with those packs.

the question is...my friends....in 2056 will people be grading 06 heritage like we grade 57 topps???
  • Options
    RonBurgundyRonBurgundy Posts: 5,491 ✭✭✭
Answer to your question is no. 2006 Heritage will be pretty much forgotten. But people may still be grading '57 Topps.

On another note, lots of discussion about the tough Hal Naragon card here. I went and looked at a raw one I picked up a few weeks ago as part of a collection I bought. Mine is centered but has a little snow. Is the issue with Naragon usually one of centering, snow, or both?

I haven't been active as of late, and my progress shows. I am at 47% and 6.88GPA. I do have a few dozen 6-8 range raws waiting for a special, but am looking to pick up a few lots of 7's if possible.

Also, I found these while scanning some pics to my set, so if anyone needs or WANTS these let me know.

Quik - thanks for the reply. Upon further inspection of the Naragon, it has a small wrinkle on the back. Arrrgh. Oh well, probably was no better than a 7 anyway without the wrinkle. I have 2 nice Garcia's, one a graded 7 and one nice raw one that is centered with no snow but no better than a 7. Garcia actually seems to be more plentiful than Naragon in raw, but of course high end examples are hard to come by.

    Stay classy,

If anyone wants it free for their '57 set, send me a PM with your address and I'll send it to you. First one gets it.

All I ask is that if you upgrade, pass it along to someone else.

    Thanks,

    Arny,
What grade are you looking for??? I am currently upgrading also and plan to sell off all the 6's and duplicate 7's I have. I will probably start parting with the 6's fairly soon.

Does anyone ever sell in lots any more??? or does everyone just try to sell singles to max their buck???

I sure would like to pick up some 15-20 card lots somehow.

I can't pick up lots of cards anymore it seems. Little four cards lots here and there, but mostly all singles. I'm looking for minimum 6s. So, I could help you get rid of those that you upgrade. Let me know as soon as you have some and we'll see if we can put something together.

For the '57 Topps collectors, just letting you know that I have a large selection of high-grade '57's that were part of my last submission. Please PM or email me (mjmurphy31@aol.com) if interested in any of these. I still have many 8's and others still left. Also, many of the Mint 9's will be going up on ebay very soon and I will post here when they are listed. I'm looking to sell in lots also.

    All,

I've been out of the loop and moving from overseas over the past few months. Everything is finally here in Massachusetts and I am ready to get going again. I put in a bunch of subs that I recently entered so I now stand at over 100 dups. I would be very interested in trading to try and make headway on my set.

My needs are reflected in my Master Set registry entry (at ~42% so I still need a bunch of "common" commons) titled MAPs 1957 Topps.

An email gets my list... I'm pretty easy that way.

Right now, my goal is to simply complete the set in 5 or above and my duplicates are in that range as well (mostly 6 and 7).

I really would like to get going this week because I start setting up at shows next weekend and after that, everything becomes fluid. It is great that this thread only recently got going again and I didn't miss much : ) Thanks for looking.

Hey Mike, I'd like a list (SCMAuctions@aol.com). I'm putting the set together in PSA 6 or higher as well. I've got a couple of dupes right now (#152 & #273) in PSA 6, so I'll look at your list and see whether you need them or not.

Some new additions thanks to some of our great board members! I will be upgrading (I'm a 'centering' kinda guy) most of these in the future, but wanted to have them now image

Loth, I'm sitting at almost 44% already! image

I never thought that I'd be this far into the set at this point. I've only been putting this set together for a little over 6 months now. I've been so surprised as to how many of these 6s and 7s are going for 50% or less of SMR. I better keep that a little quiet around these parts, huh?

I just got this back from PSA...
    image
I am not moving along quite as fast as Arny, but I am up to 52% complete. I have been spending alot of time upgrading a few stars and picking up a few 8's where I can. I have to work on some sp and I am sure that will get costly, but other than that I have fairly easy cards left to get.
I too have noticed the 7's are going for low prices(on some) and the 8's can be had if patient. I have also been smoked on a few 8's not even sp or low pop for $50+++. If it is centered and in 8 pauljas will outbid you. The guy has two near complete sets both with a gpa of 8 and he is still ripping all the 8's. I am not mad at him but just wish I had his money... Well maybe alittle mad too.

If anyone has a large group of 7's and 8's they would like to part with LMK.

Re Pauljas: then he turns around and sells his PSA 7's for $35-40 each. Unbelievably, some people buy them.
