<< <i>steve clark...I remember once before you said that you "block pauljas from your searches." How do block a seller from your searches?

I am so ****ing sick of seeing his name as the seller on cards I like that I'm close to vomitting.

    Thanks!

    Nick >>

Put a "-pauljas' in your searches.

It's funny, I did have him blocked as a bidder but I took him off. He's actually a good buyer, I just don't want to see any of his crap as a seller.

I picked these two up today at a small card show. The Pierce looks even better in person. I think the Noren has the best gloss and centering I have seen on that card. It is snow free as well, but the bottom corners are not great. It was fun getting some raw cards that weren't rags and not having to give much for them.

Not much action in this thread lately so I thought I would make it known that I have a few cards left from my recent sales. If anybody wants scan please let me know!

ALL ARE PSA 7 NQ. Any comments are certainly welcome. I was pretty picky with centering on all of these. Don't be shy in making offers on the whole lot!

    Thanks,
    Dan

I wish you luck but I am glad I got my set mostly sold before your's. image If you get the prices that I got for my cards, you will do very well (depending on your cost, of course). So far I have realized about a 30% profit, signifying that this great set continues to be popular.

    Hi,

If anyone is collecting this set in mid-grade, I have the following duplicates that are available for sale or trade. All are PSA 6:

    29 Whitey Herzog - Senators
    53 Clem Labine - Dodgers
    56 Dave Sisler - Sox
    57 Jim Lemon - Senators
    59 Dick Williams - Orioles
    60 Billy Hoeft - Tigers
    167 Vic Power - A's

Please PM me if interested. I need a ton of cards for my 1957 set (PSA 5/6/7), so let me know if you'd like to trade.

    Thanks,

Don't tell anyone, but I'm sneaking back into the '57 set. image

If anyone has any 6s (or higher) in lots, I'd be interested. I just picked up about 15% of the set in a trade, so I'm looking to add some additional cards at the right prices. PM me or e-mail me at SCMAuctions@aol.com image

    Arny,
Glad you are back. Do you have anything held over from the last time you took a run at the set? If I remember right you had alot of the star cards in 6 already. I have an 8 card lot of all 6's and (1) 5 that mostly 4th series on ebay right now.

    Godd luck

    Arny,
Sorry to hear that you have to start fresh. I know you had a few decent stars in 6 that you got from me in a trade. You got the 15% from Ryan, Is he getting out or just have that much extra? I always have extra 6's and 7's so I will keep you in mind. This is the first time I had to put cards on ebay in a while. I have been turning them over in the registry for fair prices. Dave, if those go unsold I'd be interested in some (if not all) of them. Gotta check my list to see if I have any already from the ones I got from Loth.

Hi guys...I posted in vintage card section about wanting low grade fillers (poor..fair). My first cards as a kid were from 57 baseball. I am now retired and cannot afford to put together a quality set. If you have any cards in this condition please PM me. I would like to put together a low grade set...if you can help let me know with prices. I have some cards..not worried about duplicates as most of what I have is junk anyway.

    Thanks.

New addition to my set....really has me thinking of crossing my '57s to SGC. Love how the colors from the cards show up against those black borders.

Is this a PSA 7.5 possibility though?

Nice Malzone,I agree the 57's really look sharp against the black borders. That card definatley looks high end for the grade.
Do you plan on cracking it and submitting?

Jake, I'm actually debating on whether to stay with PSA on these or go with the SGC holders on them. They just look so nice against the black. I'm debating it still at this point.

    Arny,

I agree 100% on how much better the SGC holders make the white border cards stand out.
Are you debating on crossing over your entire 1957 set to SGC?

Good luck on whatever you decide.

    Jake
  • Options
Yes Jake, I'm debating on crossing them over.

The good thing is that I'm only at about 20% complete right now, so it won't be too many cards to cross. The bad thing is that lots of these that I have probably won't cross as 7s since SGC has more of a strict grading system.

    So, I'm still undecided.

    Arny,

Keep us posted on your decision. I think SGC is at least on par with PSA as a grading company. However, PSA just overwhelms them with sheer numbers. If you look on eBay right now under 1957 baseball, graded, there's 345 PSA items and only 10 SGC items. I really question how the SGC registry guys do it. Do they submit raw? Buy PSA slabs and cross them over? I think either way would be inefficient compared to the PSA registry.

Sitting at about 86% complete, it is my goal to get my raw set (graded stars) done by the end of summer. But I have 2 other sets I need to get done before that. Despite working on building 9 sets, this set is still the one I am most proud of and am glad I kept at building this despite selling all of the PSA 7 and 8 earlier.

anybody good with html or such...i was thinking we all need to get together and get a website going JUST for 1957 topps. On this website we can host pictures of our current sets so we can check out centering and let eachother know if an upgrade card is on ebay....we could also put our extras up for sale. What do you guys think?

This is hardly a blockbuster event, but it's worth noting for the below reason.

I finished my 1957 tonight when I picked up a decent looking raw Granny Hamner in an ebay auction. It's not a world class set by any means; 117 of the cards are graded, and about a 6.9 aggregate total. If I submit the other 300 or so, I may end up at about 6.5.

But here's the significance of my effort: I DID NOT PURCHASE ONE SINGLE SOLITARY CARD FROM PAULJAS!!!

That is an accomplishment definitely worth noting!

A hearty congrats to you, Nick. It's a tough set to put together, regardless if it's raw or graded. One year into it I'm a little over fifty percent complete. It'll probably be a couple more years before I can claim victory as you have.

The 57 thread was bumped by someone other than me! Is that Lothar??? I have been sitting at about 90% for about 6 months and it is time to start buying. I need 23 more cards in 7 or 8. I have many extra 7's that I would like to trade to help some of you out. I will get the list and post them tonight.
