the question is - if you buy a raw 230 gold at auction - say 9000 bucks; where do you go with it except for grading in hopes of a "70" that would land you a profit?
Irrelevant. You are only looking at it through your particular lens. Just go look at auction results from the Dawn and Dusk auction. Nothing here is going to be raw. Or close to $9K.
Your batting .100 or less on all your predictions. Where they are coming from we will never know but they seem to be your opinion only and not grounded in any type of experience.
jmlanzaf posts are at least grounded in some factual evidence and experience. He knows how to assess these
Instead of just blabbering all kinds of stuff just listen for once - you might learn something.
That guys low point may have been when he predicted the mint would be inundated with silver medal returns by people playing privy lottery. Guy just seeks interaction and best to not provide it and look past his thoughts. A lot of people are enjoying the silver and many will enjoy the gold. No point in allowing an individual to suck that joy away.
Which might be precisely what they avoided by steering ~20%+ into the hands of dealers, and then stopping sales before another 25K might have ended up in weak hands, and then returned if they didn't do well in the secondary market. Stopping sales when they did, which I had no way to know at the time, certainly had the effect of supporting the market and preventing what otherwise might have been a flood of returns.
If that was my low point, my high point is going to come when the gold doesn't sell out on Friday, and then again when the 230 privys go for Moon Money far in excess of what others are speculating here.

Look on the bright side, if it was released last week, it would have been $3740.
Now that the Mint is only in it for the money, they are missing out on $1.75 Million, if they sold them all.
Cold comfort, given they will be selling for a whopping $1,068 premium to the current spot price of $2,572 as quoted by Kitco. Yay! People will be saving $100. Does that REALLY matter to people willing to pay a $1,000+ premium to spot?
More important than what they would have sold for last week, or next week, is what they are going to be worth in 6 months, or 3 years. And, no one really knows.
Buy it if you love it, but not because the risk/reward suggests you will do well at a $1,068 premium to a spot price 8% off its all time high. Lot more downside potential than upside, given how far gold has gone up how quickly, how great the premium is, and how high the mintage is as compared to all recent similar Mint Product (numismatic AGEs, American Liberty High Relief gold coins, gold buffaloes, etc.).

They are not going to sell out, no offers will be made, and any offers that are made are not going to be honored.

Just to keep you updated - I'm now aware of 6 more offers for the gold besides the one from PFS. I could see arguing that the coin won't sell out on Thursday, but to think it'll be there after Friday...no way.

Actually, the only thing that matters to the Mint is the premium. They hedge the bullion price so gold going up or down doesn't change their net by even a cent.

I guess we'll see. Lots of offers certainly indicates a quick sell out. OTOH, all the pre-sales on eBay, at ever lower prices, indicates otherwise. Someone is going to be right. Fortunately, all will be revealed in less than 48 hours!

I’m wondering how easily the checkout will be on the mints new website as I haven’t made any purchases since the update. Good luck everyone.
It’s a pain in the ass but you do get 10 minutes after waiting room. Do a practice purchase go all the way until the last button to get a feel.
@MsMorrisine said:
but i'm guessing you don't have product held for you in those 10 minutes?
No. That's just, when the waiting room is in effect, before they kick you off the site in order to let other people in. If they didn't do this, and you didn't log off, others in the waiting room would never be able to enter the site.
The checkout process, with items in a cart that are not yours until you receive an order confirmation, is unchanged. The website change is with the UI. Not the back end.
I will probably pass on this. I have 3 of the silver so probably OK with not getting the gold. You do not think the mint will not make a 250th anniversary gold version in 20 years?
Well, who will still be here and collecting 20 years hence? Hopefully many....
I am still on the fence - will be in Baltimore on Saturday (damn, wish I could go tomorrow at least) and maybe get one if still there. I do like the tiny drop in price.
Love that Milled British (1830-1960) Well, just Love coins, period.

What will the secondary market % markup be for these be ungraded? Really want to buy one but curious if I would take a loss if I have buyers remorse haha.
Also, sorry if this has been answered, but how are there already slabbed versions available to buy on ebay?
I don't get the Waiting Room thing. Was in for over an hour, when I checked if they set the price. I refreshed the page, to make sure I was still logged in, and got the waiting room thing. Did that reset me to the back if the queue? Actually, if I get elbowed out, it is a $3,640 savings. Unsure how these will fare later on the secondary market anyway.

You can hedge these. They come with a return label and you'll receive a full refund.
Especially noteworthy if gold craters next week, they don't sell-out, the secondary markets collapse, etc.

Spot gold, $2,574. Ouch. Pray for a 70!
Okay; so I will be paying C$5220 for this coin if I decided to order it tomorrow.

I live 45 min from Balto but have to travel and can't go. Ugh!!
For those who are going please post pics.
I'm in for one.
I hate this new Mint auction process and was going to pass because it's so irritating. However, absurdly overpriced as it is i like it.
Assuming waiting room.
So sellout in few minutes/hours? Or few days?
The line has formed in Baltimore. 50-60 deep so far, per reports.
Wow, I think I might go to the winter carnival in Quebec City this year!

Baltimore Expo at 11:30am.
That’s hardly anybody. Guess they’re all in line for the Flowing Hair.
Please show us the U.S. Mint queue.....
How do you find the waiting room?
I knew it would happen.
I went to the U.S. Mint website and it showed me that, now I'm in.
You go automatic. I was on the page before the waiting room and I’m still on it. I expected to get kicked into the waiting room.
How do you find the waiting room? Anyone?
I knew it would happen.
I just got kicked into the waiting room
Thirty in front and a lot behind me.
