Pro athletes from previous eras are pretty lucky that they didn't have every idiot that they walked by recording them on their phone, stuff like this probably happened quite a bit back then there was just no video evidence to prove it.
Embiid (by the NBA) & Kelce (possibly in court) may both lose money after this but I doubt that it hurts them in any way financially. Embiid iss due to make from 51 to 69M a season over the next 4-5 years.
I could easily envision Mantle, Billy Martin, and others from that team, drinking at the clubs and bars they frequented, and getting into some scuffles from time to time with other drunken patrons. In those days, ya may have shoved or even thrown a few punches, and it was quickly forgotten about. Sadly nowadays, almost everybody out there wants to sue one another.
Back then you also had cops willing to cover stuff up especially if its a player from the local sports team. Today you've got everyone trying to find their 15mins of fame even if it just means many more followers on their social media accounts, These people could end up benefitting financially even without suing.

"After Lugo pushed back on a paltry initial settlement offer of $5,000, the two sides brokered an out-of-court agreement that Charles acknowledged to reporters was worth $75,000, in exchange for Lugo agreeing not to prosecute."
Regarding Kelce he needs to realize he is putting himself in that situation by walking through packed events like this him and his brother are welcoming all the hoopla around them and are cashing in on it with their podcast and social media as well as commercials.
I got no problem with what he did but eventually it's going to turn into something more, if that was one of my buddies back in the 90's I can guarantee you he would have had 5 or 6 guys swinging on him.
It's bound to happen if he keeps it up, you never saw Tom Brady wading through a crowd of fans going into a Michigan game lol and right now the Kelces are just as popular as he was..
I wish the Chiefs would learn you can’t run out the clock with 3 straight running plays with 2:30 left in the game and the Bucs with all three timeouts. Okay maybe it was 2 straight running plays. I see no logic in it. Mahomes is your best player and makes the most money. Put the damn ball in his hands and see if he can throw for a couple of first downs. I swear the ghost of Marty Schottenheimer takes over the play calling in those situations.
Still after the punt I thought the Chiefs defense would hold. They didn’t and even coach Reid said he was glad they didn’t go for the two pointer.
Deandre is going to be huge in the offense going forward! 🥳

Wow - what an insult to the Bucs head coach. Rarely see that in the NFL, a head coach smacking another head coach. However the smack was well deserved, as the Bucs absolutely should have gone for 2 on that play.

Not an insult at all.
A reporter asked Coach Reid if he was surprised Tampa Bay didn’t go for the two pointer and Reid paused for a second and said ‘no not surprised but I’m glad they didn’t’
I'll interpret Reid's comment for ya about what Andy really meant.
"Todd Bowles is a dope, and he should have went for 2."
The 2-point conversion at the end of the game, which would otherwise be tied with a successful extra point, presents an interesting consideration for coaches as it provides two probabilities that have to be considered. it's always interesting to see the coaches who care more about not losing than they do about not winning. You would expect that the "worse" team would always choose to go for the win. I don't see the correct choice made very often, and when Houston was doing it almost every time years back they were not getting much love for trying when it didn't work out. I think we can blame ourselves for complaining when it fails for coaches not making the correct decision.
there's nothing worse than a coach who plays not to lose. and that's essentially what Bowles did. did you see Mayfield's reaction when they lost the coin toss? he knew they were more than likely effed because of the dude who plays quarterback for the other team. well lookie at what happened.
when you're a 9.5-point dog.......on the road.......with your two best receivers out..........and 2 yards away from sending the best team in the league to the loser's lounge for the very first time this season........you floor it. ESPECIALLY after your QB just engineered a drive that culminated in a touchdown to put them in that position to begin with. taking the ball out of Baker's hands and putting it on the foot of the kicker comes off as the height of distrust, is 1,000% pussified, and i'll personally never view it any other way.
if i'm a Tampa fan & Bowles goes for 2, no qualms whatsoever. none. i'd love the confidence and the aggression regardless of the outcome. but leave it up to chance? and if we're on the wrong side of a flip we all of sudden bank our hopes on stopping a guy who has a history of ending games in his favor? without an opportunity to stick our offense out on the field?
that was such a vile pill for Bucs fans to swallow
Wow I had a post removed and there wasn’t even anything wrong with it.
It was after Hopkins caught his second TD pass and I wrote what Mahomes was yelling to him. It was basically Mahomes saying I’m going to keep feeding you the ball, but in slang.
There was nothing offensive about it at all. 🤔
The Broncos kicker takes what seemed like twenty minutes after the snap, to focus and stretch his leg on a chip shot 25 yard line field goal. Are you kidding me?
No sports team in world history going back thousands of years, has ever been this lucky in a given season as the Chiefs.
I just looked it up. The Roman chariot race team in the Byzantine Empire was considered the luckiest team in history, but that honor has just been surpassed by this season's Chiefs.
this team is 9-0. to me, they do not seem like a dominant team though. lots of very close games and not many games where they beat the brakes off from the other team.

Nobody has said they’re dominant.
I believe this stat is accurate….. since Mahomes became the chiefs starting qb they’ve won 68% of the time when they’re behind at halftime. The rest of the league wins 24% of the time when down at halftime.
Wait a minute…. yes they are dominant!
@Darin The Chiefs have won an NFL record 9 games in a row when they have been trailing at halftime, with the streak dating back to last season, including the Super Bowl.
Edit: The streak is actually 9 consecutive wins after trailing at any point in the second half, not just at halftime. They had already set the record with 8 wins on Monday, today was the 9th.
.
Good teams find ways to win, I don't think there was any luck involved, the guys on that Special Teams play on that FG did their job to the best of their ability, they exposed one side of the line and blew through it like a hot knife through butter.
It wasn't a lucky circus catch, stupid fumble or blown call by the refs, it was a team playing their rear end off through the final second of play.
There is nothing but dominance going on in KC right now, they are playing like champions should play.
I like Mahomes and Chiefs but this is very reminiscent of the Eagles last year, when they started 10-1 but weren't actually a great team. The Chiefs keep winning in squeakers, while I don't expect them to fall off a cliff like the Eagles did I wouldn't be surprised if they lost 3 or 4 of their last 8 games. The Chiefs are definitely not as good as their current record, but we have seen them turn it on late in the season and the playoffs before. If they do that, then all these early and mid-season close games won't mean a thing. I do think the addition of Hopkins gives them a dimension that they really needed with Rice out for the season, and I would anticipate Hopkins making an even bigger impact as the season goes along.
That said, the comedy of the title of this thread never gets old. No matter what happens the rest of the season, the original poster got things very, very wrong. Off season distractions and what not would impact a team at the beginning of the season and that obviously didn't happen.

Bright side for the them is they can repair damages and replace stolen items with ease, they should be happy that no family members were there and got hurt.
NFL News: Travis Kelce Considers Retirement Amid NFL's Global Expansion
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently announced a major expansion initiative for the 2025 season, aiming to host eight international games in cities including Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Dublin, and Munich. While this vision promises to spread American football to new global audiences, it has raised concerns among players, including Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, who expressed frustration with the strain these plans put on athletes. Kelce’s comments suggest he may even consider early retirement if the league continues to prioritize international growth over players’ well-being.

I am still waiting for this "major collapse" to happen...
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Yea, but that's not a 3-peat prediction. 😉
The ways the Chiefs like to brag, anything less than a 3-peat, in their minds, will be a major collapse.
Still a lot of season left to play.
8-0.
Imagine how good they'd be without all the 'distractions'? They'd have an average margin of victory of 10 points instead of 'just' 7?
