As explained earlier in the thread, yes, you can. The standard is forcible contact, which that first one was not. As backed up by both commentators and the rules guy. And even the NFL in their defense of the call admitted that it was debatable as to whether it should have been a penalty ("You can end up having a debate, you know, about whether you felt it was forcible or not").
Reflecting back on the season and the Ravens earlier 35-10 win over the Bills reminds me how hard it can be to beat the same team twice in a season. The overall team stats aren't really much different between the games other than how Buffalo held Derrick Henry in check and Baltimore had to get more of their yardage via the pass. And that's precisely where the difference came: two fumbles and an INT off the passing game.
It's almost like the first loss by Buffalo taught them how to beat the Ravens in the second game. That makes me wonder if the earlier loss to the Chiefs taught them what they need to change to beat Buffalo in the re-match.
Funny, my buddy is out in Arizona and he is a HUGE Bills fan and I congratulate him on the win and the first thing he says is a reference towards Mahomes and the Refs lol

Funny you should say that, Sunday afternoon we took a trip down memory lane and watched some of Vontaze Burfict's greatest hits!! Most of those were blatant and intentional, but most of what happens today is an outgrowth of how big the players are and how fast the game moves. My perspective is simple: protect the players if you can, but don't distort the game and change the outcome by being overly cautious.
Lots of penalties don't get called that should and a lot that shouldn't be called are. I don't fault the officials for discussions like this, I blame the NFL and the camera/replay system they have in place but seemingly refuse to use. The excuse is that they don't want to interrupt the flow of the game or make things longer than they already are, sort of like what MLB is wrestling with. Fans complain that games are too long, then they complain about the rule changes to speed them up!!
We used to call that Catch 22.
The easiest fix might be to allow an official to be reviewing "Live" and not let the fans see 14 different angles of every play three times. We only complain cause we can see what the on-field officials can't.

And I think you bring up a very valid point about leading with your helmet for sure, these guys got away from wrapping up and form tackling to just wanting to hit a guy into next week but sometimes incidental. contact helmet to helmet that is completely not malicious happens for a variety of reasons and can be out of the players control.
All I'm saying is they should review these calls and have them looked at by someone other than a ref on the field, give the coach and opportunity to get at least one review a half or something because these calls depict the outcome of a game sometimes.
This is going on in college as well, the ASU vs Texas non call was one of the worst I've seen in a while
i'm just a dope on a sports forum, but someone please explain to me how you can have the #1 rushing offense in the league with King Henry in the backfield against an undersized Buffalo d-line, yet on 2-point conversion #1 he didn't get the ball, 2-point conversion #2 he didn't get the ball, and when they drove it to the Buffalo 2 he got it once and then Harbaugh dials up a pass play that resulted in a sack and them ultimately eating 4 points. if they had given him the ball FOUR STRAIGHT TIMES the chances of Buffalo keeping him out of the house were somewhere around NIL. hell, you could QB sneak/tush-push it 4 times from the 2 and it's virtually a guaranteed 7............every freaking time.
Harbaugh is supposedly one of the best HC's in the game, yet let's realistically think about how many points he cost his team because he refused to utilize one of his biggest and baddest weapons. that's the sort of thing an idiot Chicago Bears HC would do, seriously
coach like you have no business being one and the only place you deserve to be is on your couch watching the next game

I'm willing to bet Lamar looks at it in a sort of "Choked" fashion with the turnovers, and Andrews dropping that ball certainly was a "choked" moment
But let's agree it was a great game, the players depicted the outcome and both teams had a fair shot at winning that game

What I always find of interest is fans/viewers/commentators always bring up length of baseball games. But you rarely if ever hear complaints about length of those 3-4+ hours of football games. No one I know complains about football game lengths, just baseball games. Must have something to do with the action within the football games and pace. Baseball seems slower within the same time frame.

The ironic part is the actual play is pretty similar. Most of a football game is the play clock counting down and nothing happening. The big hits certainly give some more excitement but the pace of play is actually slower.
Most of a football game is the play clock counting down
That's a good point. in the Ravens vs. Bills game there were 116 plays. The play clock starts at 40 and team routinely snap the ball at under 10 seconds. During the course of a game that adds up to between 45-50 minutes.

Why risk the 15 yards unless you are actually trying to knock the guy out of the game?

Okay, maybe "choke" is the wrong term, but if Buffalo is ever going to beat Kansas City, last season was the year when the play-off game was in Buffalo. Kansas City has more lucky breaks that any team deserves this season. Given the history, I don't see it changing for the Bills this year.
Hopefully luck will remain on Buffalos side for the next 3 weeks
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Not if they end up playing the Eagles. Otherwise, Buffalo will be my team if they play Washington.
ok i'm coming off the ledge
we're about to hire Ben Johnson
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
What I always find of interest is fans/viewers/commentators always bring up length of baseball games. But you rarely if ever hear complaints about length of those 3-4+ hours of football games. No one I know complains about football game lengths, just baseball games. Must have something to do with the action within the football games and pace. Baseball seems slower within the same time frame.
The ironic part is the actual play is pretty similar. Most of a football game is the play clock counting down and nothing happening. The big hits certainly give some more excitement but the pace of play is actually slower.
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
Most of a football game is the play clock counting down
That's a good point. in the Ravens vs. Bills game there were 116 plays. The play clock starts at 40 and team routinely snap the ball at under 10 seconds. During the course of a game that adds up to between 45-50 minutes.
I read something a long time ago there was 8 or was it 12 minutes of actual gameplay in an NFL game
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
That would be close by my above calculation.
Basketball seemto have a ratio of 3-1 minutes. Time versus actual play.
This allows time for the commercials that pay the freight.
NBA games really slow down in the last minute as each team rushes to use their last time-out!!
