Here’s another group where every coin can be found well struck and with good luster. The 83-S is by far the rarest here but when you locate one in mint state they were actually very well made.

The 1882-S, generally speaking, is well struck and may just have the best luster of any Morgan. My flashiest coin (no longer part of this set) is an 82-S in 65PL. They often have bowl luster too, which looks fantastic especially when combined with color.
This one has a PL reverse to boot:

1882-S MS65+ CAC

There are a few nicely toned 1883 Morgans (more than 80, 81, or 82) and it is easily available in PL or DMPL below 65. I love the purple of this one and the smooth, satiny surfaces:

1883 MS66+ CAC

1883-CC - Much like the other common CCs, there are a ton of these in PL and DMPL. They often have nice frost and mirrors but deep cameos without distracting bag marks take some patience. There are many toned ones as well but they are usually mottled and rarely seen with true rainbows that have smooth transitions. I replaced my cameo 64DMPL with this one but I’d still like to have another black/white one for my PL/DMPL date set.

1883-CC MS65+ CAC

1883-O is the first of three years where toned examples become very common. Strike quality is often weak but not generally poor and luster is sometimes muted but there are still hundreds of beautiful rainbow Morgans from which to choose. This one is frosty, clean, and with a color pattern you don’t often see.

1883-O MS66+ CAC

The 1883-S is like a light version of the 1884-S - decently available in circulated condition but a real challenge in Unc. This one has a DMPL obverse and a just-miss PL reverse. On another day I could see it getting the designation. This is about as nice a coin I could possibly hope for here without spending 5 figures.
1883-S MS64

As always, post your thoughts, questions, suggestions for future topics, or some of your own Morgans from this range!

Wow, that 83-S is a stunner! Looks like bowl luster on the reverse too.

Another nice installment of your set... That '83S looks much different in the slab than the TruView.... Cheers, RickO

Great thread. Mine for type is a little bit of a compromise since I don't want to spend too much on this slot for my set. Nonetheless, I like reverse Morgan toners. 66 CAC

That’s a gorgeous reverse toner! I wouldn’t call that a compromise at all.

Great report and stunning Morgan's. I hope this thread has more sequels than the Fast and Furious series.

    Thanks!

They do have a 20-year head start but my turnaround time is faster. Hopefully I didn’t nearly derail the project with the third installment. 🤣
