So where do the gian bags go? Who distributes them in to rolls
They end up with the handful of companies which process coin for banks, such as. Loomis, Brinks, NF String, etc.
I believe that private companies or individuals can also buy them but there is a small service fee and they must be picked up at the mint's loading dock. At least that's the way it was with the state quarters.
Usually somebody like Brinks rolls them. You need to order one of the $50,000 bags from Brinks in one of those cities. If you get them direct, they may not have the goodies added. Wait, buy one from the Mint and one from brinks and compare!
It would be a ton of fun to go through a $50k bag for errors and gem coins before they get screwed up getting put into rolls. But could you imagine trying to deposit and/or spend $50k in quarters?
I haven't receive a "new issue" National Parks Quarter in change in over 8 months. I used to find the new issues on a regular basis within a few weeks of their issue.
I'll bet these "W" quarters will bring sharp premiums as soon as they start appearing in circulation. It will be interesting to see if the general media picks up on this and prompts the general public to join in. It could be the early 60s coin boom all over again!!!!!
I hope to find one for my kids state park set. I think it would be neat to add to it. Up until this year we have all by Georgia and Arizona. So I can't wait to help add more to their collection. I will definitely be on the look out for the "W"

I have witnessed the greed of some modern coin dealers on many occasions in the past and the efforts they take to get what they want and get their profits.
I have no doubt that some will find a way to game the system and obtain quantity of these W mint quarters to be able to sell to their customers at extraordinary prices.

@ricko, you should add the contest thing to the title.
I think this is a big deal, and if/when the media picks up it'll be like some willy wonka stuff for a golden ticket. There should absolutely be increased interest in coins this year with this W-quarter.

It sounds to me like they missed the first release of the Lowell national historical park and are going to be putting those with the W along with the American memorial park with the W into the release of the American memorial park coins. That would make the 2nd batch the place to look for Both of the first 2 W's. Am I correct in this?
I'm going to some banks first thing Monday morning to see what I can find. I live in Albuquerque so they may have some. There are many hundred's of banks in Albuquerque. If I find some Lowell quarters I will sell them unopened on ebay.
I am headed to the banks tomorrow morning. Hope I pick the right banks. I hope to start out with 2 or 3 boxes to go through in the morning then to the credit union to get rid of the junk and get ready for Tuesday and more banks as there are hundreds in Albuquerque.
I think I will go to my bank first tomorrow and order 2 boxes as I think we are near delivery very soon and then go to another 3 or 4 banks to grab what they now have while I am waiting for delivery of my 2 boxes.

Well I made it though the first box. No 2019 P/D/W , no other errors & 1 1963 silver.

maybe a modern rarity if all 40 W's in a unopen roll. take some luck, that's for sure

Good question.
Somewhere in this step they are rolled.

@Tetromibi... Good suggestion... and I did add it... Cheers, RickO
@BrettPCGS hmmmmm.....
Getting another box tomorrow and ordered 2 more that will be in Thursday.
Was able to get 2 more boxes today
@ifthevamzarockin
Your a HC CRH!
Hemi,
Haven't done it for years, said I would never do it again. That never word bits ya in the butt.
Kind of having fun with it though.
I have never done that. Is it really that simple as going into a bank and asking to buy a $1000 in quarter?
Yes They may only have a $500 box to spare or you may be able to get 2 or 3.
If they don't have any on hand they will order them for you.
That's quite the incentive...5 grand, special label, and bragging rights.
this is kind of like when the 2009 Lincoln log cents were released, a unopen box was selling for 250 per box

Well I made it though the second box. No 2019 P/D/W , no other errors & 1 1999 S Clad Proof.
Let me be the first to say I’m glad you didn’t find the first W

Dang! I take back all the nice things I have been saying about you.
First roll of the third box a 2019 D Lowell...... I'm getting warm.
I'm going to some banks first thing Monday morning to see what I can find. I live in Albuquerque so they may have some. There are many hundred's of banks in Albuquerque. If I find some Lowell quarters I will sell them unopened on ebay.
Correct me if I am wrong but won't the first wave be in new rolls of one of the national parks quarters?
Okay, this is the proper way to spell correct.
Just got 6 mixed rolls at the bank and no W coins. I can't believe it.
I did find a handful of mostly euro zone coins in the coinstar machine...
By "mixed" do you mean the 2019's were mixed in with other years coins or were the rolls of 2019's solid 2019's?
All/mostly old, circulated quarters.
Those rolls must have been made up of what was in the hopper when they put the new coins in to get them mixed up like that.
I hope some people here find some
I am headed to the banks tomorrow morning. Hope I pick the right banks. I hope to start out with 2 or 3 boxes to go through in the morning then to the credit union to get rid of the junk and get ready for Tuesday and more banks as there are hundreds in Albuquerque.
Anyone know if Boy Scout troops or others YN groups will be doing organized group search? Could be interesting.
It would be hard for a group like that to do it when it takes $500 to buy a box of quarters.
Just sell more popcorn
And it wouldn't take much for some Scout Masters to get together and buy a box or so.
It's nice that the Mint Director is personally involved. I can see that it would take a coin lover to come up with a program like this.
My thoughts exactly. I didn't see Hawaii in the distribution. "I'm shocked I tell you. Shocked !"
Well I made it though the third box. 5 2019 D Lowell no P or W , no other errors & 1 2001 S Clad Proof & 1 gold plated 2006 So. Dak D.
Hearing that people are finding the 19's now leadsmen to believe that the first W will show up shortly.
Seeing plenty of Lowells D’s in change. The elusive W is still hiding.
Anybody think that Philadelphia will be the first release city even though it’s not on the list of early cities? Wouldn’t that be something?
I think I will go to my bank first tomorrow and order 2 boxes as I think we are near delivery very soon and then go to another 3 or 4 banks to grab what they now have while I am waiting for delivery of my 2 boxes.

Wow! That was easy. Didn't even have to unwrap the rolls!
Looks kind of scuffed up.
Wow! Too bad about the coin counter/roll damage. Still worth $5000, hopefully.
Edit to add. In the reddit thread the OP mentions he found two... or is that three?
