Well, Cora will be having a team meeting today prior to the Yankee game. Boy, that'll really make a difference. He'll surely put the fear of God in the team. It'll be like a Dick Williams meeting, only this one will have cupcakes and milk.
Earth to Cora...you're at least 50 games too late and don't have the style to instill anything into anyone about anything!! TOTAL JOKE

I agree with this assessment. They were short a slugger, bought themselves JD Martinez and he went out and had a career year (that combined with Betts).
There has been a lot of Sox bashing on this thread all year. Dudes - You just won the WS like 9 months ago.
I agree 100%. Winning a World Series is very difficult, o knew going in this season they would probably have a let down season. It’s New England though, we breed greediness lol. I’m one of them 🤷♂️
I really can't see any reason to watch another game this year unless my brain transforms into one that enjoys disappointment. 200 million dollars and counting and even Chris Sale has an ERA approaching 5. Why don't they just shut him down now.
I think they really missed the boat by not trading JD Martinez before the deadline. Someone would have used him

Just imagine how greedy and obnoxious you would be after another 20 World Series wins
Well, if you didn't think the Red Sox season was over yet, the 9-2 disaster today, with another game to play, should leave no doubt that they are indeed TOAST. I did get a chuckle out of Cora's intentionally getting tossed during a mound visit...his very, VERY bush-league, lame attempt at trying to fire up the team.
Now 12.5 games back, and 50 games to be played, the math has just about run its course. The team has been outplayed, out-hustled, out-managed, and thanks to their doofus GM, let down at the highest levels of the organization. Dumbrowski's comment about "there's enough talent on the team to win"...proves false. He did nothing to shore up the pitching situation, which was sorely needed. One need only look at the win-loss record of the starting rotation to see that. Very early in the season I wrote about the lack of getting key hits, and that the one run losses will add up rapdily in late September. How many times did the Red Sox leave RISPs with less than 2 outs? A bunch!!
RIP Red Sox 2019
So, I will predict an Astros-Dodgers/Braves WS. I hope the Astros win another.

The Red Sox have had tremendous success since 2004 and good for them. But if there is one thing that they haven’t been able to do is the BACK to BACK championship.

I remember them from the late 40's, when my father used to bring me to some of the games, from Dimagio and Williams Pesky tp Betts. Most were huge disappointments to several great seasons. It is baseball and there can only be one winner every year and sometimes its chicken we get but sometimes we just get the feathers. I am fortunate to have seen some winners as my father never got that opportunity.

ok, I will be that guy.....
Daniel, when you have won 4 of the last 15 championships and have clearly been the most dominant baseball team of the 21st centuiry, you kind of expect to be there at the end of it all beckoning yet another championship on a seemingly yearly basis. This year, the olde towne teame has not met our expectations of winning yet another championship in the 21st century. As a result, we are bit whiney, achey, moany, and downright bitchy so please, allow us to commiserate in the pit of bashing with hopes that we will regain our rightful spot on top of the baseball world in 2020.
(sorry, that was low hanging fruit - Sunday AM humor)
Seriously though, if we were having this discussion in 1919, we would have been saying the exact same stuff expecting another World Championship next year as their string was equally dominant in the early 1900's. Little would we have realized the next Championship was, a few years? a decade? a few decades?.......wait, what? 86 years?

I’m very happy with the Sox organization overall for the championships they brought home regardless if they have these type of seasons
Paul, gotta disagree. Yesterday is yesterday, memories are memories. The current management, IMO, has been lacking in vision to properly analyze current events. The management, or "Sox organization" is not the same as years gone by. I don't think Dumbrowski has made the moves needed to make the current Red Sox a championship winning team. Do you think Price is worth $31m per season? And what EXACTLY does LaRussa do for the team other than having a titled of "special assistant to the GM?" Answer...NADA!!
Dumbo sat on his hands when he could have picked up a BP addition, closer, or something. Pitching and lack of key hits has caused the Red Sox failure this year. If you wanna live in yesteryear, go for it...for me, when I see ineptitude and no attempt to improve the team and the fan base as well. Doing nothing, other than making a statement like "there's enough talent on this team to win, is lame, lacks vision and has now led the Red Sox team to have lost EIGHT IN A ROW. A total and complete embarrassment.
Cora is a spineless type, he probably wouldn't step on a bug, they need leadership, someone with a vision that requires a personality that inspires the team to excel. When you see Cora on tv, do you see a leader??? Do you see someone engaged...or do you see someone that is weak and out of his league? I see the latter.
This game is about winning, not watching reruns. I think this 8 game loss is the worst I've seen since I've been watching the Red Sox, and that goes back a long, long time!
I have no dog in the fight but have been hearing the same thing for several years about David Price and Chris Sale from Boston fans here, almost like a love/hate relationship. both pitchers are OK when they are doing well but stink the place up otherwise and the Boston faithful are always waiting for the bad stuff to happen, like a Chris Sale end-of-the-season collapse. it might be that the Red Sox need to release both players, keep the really outstanding core that they have and move in another direction with the pitching staff.
reading what MCMLV above has posted it seems the Red Sox have surrendered this season and will now just go through the motions until October. I expect they'll make some major changes this Winter.

Could not agree more!! I could easily drill down into Dumbrowski and his sidekick LaRussa, who, IMO is just sucking on John Henry's wallet. He was given the job because he's a long time best bud of Dumbo. Also, IMO, he contributes NADA to the betterment of the team as a whole.
I also agree that team Red Sox should have jettisoned some "big" players, making room for minor league players to make the leap, like Chavis. Clearly, the Red Sox team is totally demoralized, lacking leadership which is Cora's prime job, and are like a ship adrift. You can bet your house that just about everyone on the Red Sox roster have made their European trip plans for October, or wherever they go...merely motions now.
To hear Dumbo not even remotely seem concerned about the team's position, or performance, is to me beyond bush league and lame. Of course he never swings a bat, or catches a ball, just sits there playing with his laptop, with beer boy just a few feet away watching the game. Adjustments should have been made early on, there were so, SO many early warning signs, Ray Charles could see them.
All these players are paid a FORTUNE to perform, and perform they are not. Tiny slices of brilliance, with unending failure.
They need a lot of changes and a good place to start is in management ( ALL OF THEM!
Price should be put in the bullpen now and not wait for next year. He needs to get some splinters in his a$$ over the rest of his contract( I would make him suffer and not release him).
Sale at least admits he is having problems so would let him work through them to see if he can figure it out.
since I'm a small-market Cleveland fan I am in tune with big money contracts being moved and allowing for player development, we just can't get really deep into the free agent market. the Indians manage their salary structure and player acquisition sort of like I collect coins --- I can't afford to make mistakes for a loss and need to find "raw" talent that I can profit from. I have a few David Prices in my collection right now, stuff I should have sold a few years ago and parked the money somewhere else.
what is the Red Sox player development now, do they have pitching prospects that can come up in September and get some experience?? the Indians player development and Minor League system was in shambles for decades until they hired Mike Hargrove to work in the Minors and John Hart as GM. they were instrumental and changing the "culture" and it has stuck. going on 25+ years now of routinely trotting out guys that can really play.
I'd have to believe that with the extra money Boston has that their player development is good, right??
Put price on revokable waivers and if someone bites on him
EAT most of his contract and send him away. He is worthless.
I would not let him out of his contract outright as he will just go to some place and pitch well.
Make it your pick where he goes, not his.
Yes, I have become very bitter lately.
This link is pretty much the 2019 obituary for the Red Sox. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The article is rife with sabermetrics, which IMO are just numbers. Not one of those number crunchers hit or catch a ball, they only offer predictions of what should happen based on prior performance. I am not a sabermetrics fan. I could offer examples, but what would be the point, it's all history now.
Having thought the beating of the Yankees 3/4, was the season turning point and things were looking kinda bright...as predicted in a previous post, the Rays and Yankees had their revenge and now the team sits at a paltry 16 games back. To add a bit of salt, they couldn't even put away the lowly Royals, who are right at 30 games back in their division. Tied at 4-4 in the 10th, the rain Gods took mercy and dumped enough to have the game called...might as well cancel any redo, it means nada.
I am of the opinion that professional ball players are paid, and paid incredibly well to perform and win. The Red Sox players did not perform, yet are mega millionaires for what little they did do. for 6 months. Alex Cora is among the most inept managers in the entire league, I see no fire in his eyes, just a recent lame attempt to inspire the team by getting tossed. Should the team play equally as well next year, I suspect he'll be given the pink slip. They need a Dick Williams like guy.
So, I'm pretty sure this will be just about my last post on the Red Sox this year. I'm focusing on my European vacation and wish you all well.

Thanks Steve. Sorry you are kinda home bound. I'm not the picture of health myself, but fortunately we're both still able to go and do. We're off to Slovenia and Croatia Aug 27th for 12 days...it's on a small yacht, which will cruise down the coastline and allow us to visit nice ports that larger ships couldn't get into. Should be a great trip, I think there are just 30 of us plus crew.
So disappointed in the collapse of the Sox...hard to understand.
It was funny listening to the Orioles broadcast tonight vs Yankees. They were ripping Mookie / Cora for him sitting tonight for his scheduled day off saying you are almost 20 games out you can rest in October. lol you know it’s bad when the O’s are getting on you.

Al sounds like a great vacation! You and the wife should have a blast!
Tks Paul. Two weeks before wheels up. Flying to Paris on an A380, double decker plane...whoa!!
We met a couple from Raleigh, NC when we went to Italy last year, they're on this trip too, so that'll make it extra nice to spend time together again. Should be a great trip...I'll post something when I get back.
I really thought the Sox had something going when they took 3/4 from the Yankees, then the bottom fell out. Hard to figure how so much talent couldn't get some key hits when opportunity was right in front of them. Way too many one run losses and it just seemed like a lack of "cowboy up" mentality. Pitching was their biggest downfall I think, and I was surprised Dumbo didn't make a move to shore up the pitching at the deadline. Getting Cashner didn't do much. Next year maybe.
@pitboss said:
I have not seen enough of Yaz to make that trade and I like Benny and do not see the advantage for the Sox to make it.
It's not a good trade for the Sox. The Giants would have to throw in something else.
Just a sentimental thought to get Yaz playing left field in Fenway again.
I think the Sox should trade for him one day down the road. Not for just Andrew though.
I’d agree with that, he could end up being a really solid player who knows? But definitely would be cool at some point
An enormous disappointment from the 2018 season. Not that they had to repeat, but at least be competitive, they weren't. Cora, IMO, is way over his head. He had a dream team season in 2018 and was unable to capitalize on whatever limited skills he had as a rookie manager this season. He got zippo help from Dumbo Dumbrowski and his drinking, useless buddy, one HOFer, aka Tony LaRussa. He added nada to the team, IMO. However, he got prime seats at the games, on the plane and pretty much lived the good life on John Henry's dime.
The team overall continued to fail to get the key hits when needed. One need only go back a month or two and count up how many RISPs they had, wherein just one or two runs would have won the game. Yet, with the talent and skills of the team, they just couldn't get the key hit. They almost lost the KC do over, and how many games did they lose to lesser rated teams?
Sad to hear Remy/TC/Eck and OB get a bit excited about a possible 2nd wildcard spot, instead of the possibility of a regular playoff position. With 33 games to go and 15 back, 7 in the wildcard, this season is and has been for some time OVAH!
A special shout out to Dumbo for doing zippo in the pitching department. Keep staring at your little laptop and PC when the camera is on you, like you're actually earning your pay...more than likely playing a game with sidekick methinks.
So, I'm off to Europe for a bit...I'll post a short blurb when I return, then I'm done. So much talent, so many opportunities, so little results.

How about
TRAVEL WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO DO IT AS THE SO CALLED GOLDEN YEARS ARE NOT SO GOLDEN.
You're right Steve!!
Something is gonna get all of us for sure! Living in a retirement community (Del Webb), I hear of just about every illness known to man. We even had one guy about a year ago doing situps in the huge exercise room we have, with every machine imaginable...well, somebody noticed he wasn't doing situps for a while...yup, dead right there!
The most horrible was a couple who lived near me and loved to ride his motorcycle with his wife...one day, about a year ago, with the right of way and doing about 60, a pickup truck failed to yield and turned left in front of him. He was dead at the scene, his wife died after several months of pain and surgeries. Sad stuff!!
Smell the roses early in life...save for the future, but be damned sure to travel, and enjoy your hard earned cash!!

ERA near 6 in his walk year. Who’s going to pay Porcello now?
He's obviously a hot head who can't control his emotions. I'd like to think he got the bill for the tvs he toasted in anger last night.

I’m very happy with the Sox organization overall for the championships they brought home regardless if they have these type of seasons
I like watching Devers and Bogarts at the plate, JBJ in the field, and nobody on the mound -- way different from teams they fielded in past years.
Without question!

Hows that for starters.
since I'm a small-market Cleveland fan I am in tune with big money contracts being moved and allowing for player development, we just can't get really deep into the free agent market. the Indians manage their salary structure and player acquisition sort of like I collect coins --- I can't afford to make mistakes for a loss and need to find "raw" talent that I can profit from.

Enjoy your vacation! I wish I could take one myself but the wife is not able to travel anymore so we limit what we do to the local casinos now.
Take care,
Al
Sale can pitch like that every start the rest of the year and it won't make a difference, will it?
It was a good game to watch for a change but there are just too many problems with this team now for them to make up the ground they lost.

Dumbo will probably re=sign Porcello and Cashner to big contracts this winter. ( HOPEFULLY NOT )
There is still a slight chance for them to sneak into the playoffs. All they can control now is to keep on winning.
I have not seen enough of Yaz to make that trade and I like Benny and do not see the advantage for the Sox to make it.
I’d agree with that, he could end up being a really solid player who knows? But definitely would be cool at some point
My (almost) last post of the Red Sox 2019 season.
RIP 2019 Red Sox
Enjoy the Trip Al!! 👍
Tks Paul!
TRAVEL WHILE YOU'RE YOUNG!!!
👍
How about
TRAVEL WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO DO IT AS THE SO CALLED GOLDEN YEARS ARE NOT SO GOLDEN.
