The team had a miracle year last year and IMO it wasn't because of Cora's stellar leadership...he just happened to be at the helm and the team gave him the ride of his life.
I didn't see the game, but if Cora pitched a fit, its his way of showing the team he's behind them...many managers pull this nonsense. This, in a lame attempt to fire up the team. The Boston Red Sox team needs a Dick Williams-like manager, Cora is more of a marsh mallow.
but was it a case case where the rays did something wrong and Cora recognized something happened but didn't know exactly what was wrong about it?
I felt like it was illegal at the moment but I didn't know exactly what the rule was .
Either way it doesn't explain why the officials didn't know what to do and had to call upstairs , or why it took so long to get restarted. If you are an on field official you should know the rules as well as the manager and not need to phone a friend for help
My comparison...long ago and far away, I was an Air Traffic Controller for 7 years. It got dicey from time to time, but, I knew my stuff and never got burned. I was a Journeyman full performance level controller in 3 different facilities. Transitioning from one to the other was a challenge when having to forget ATC procedures at one, erasing frequencies and host of stuff I knew cold and learning things in a new world. However, even after being checked out, I still studied and read and read and read the ATC manual so I'd never get in a pickle and be unsure as what to do. A lot of guys thought I was wasting my time, but I oftentimes watched them going down the tubes because they didn't know a rule or procedure because "they didn't have to".
Cora would do well to burn the midnight oil and be as knowledgeable as possible.
here's my understanding --- the Rays made the switches which resulted in one player replacing the 1st baseman and then the Rays forfeiting the DH. according to the rules, if the Manager doesn't specify who bats where when doing that kind of double switch that the Umpire makes the choice. that's what happened and Cora didn't like the pitcher batting third, he wanted him in the nine hole but the Umpire put him third for some reason since the Rays manager didn't make a choice.
19-3 and the Red Sox are still piling on!!! like I posted in the Yankees thread, does the New York pitching staff really suck as bad as the last week seems to show??
Last night was a mere aberration. While it's always nice to stomp the Yankees, especially in Fenway, the Red Sox are still 10 back and with 62 to go, you can do the math. Their only remote hope is a wildcard spot, which is sketchy at best.
I expect the Yankees to come back with a vengeance, you can't keep their lineup down for long.
as I said in another thread, you can match the Yankees pitching but matching the offense is another matter. last night was weird as I followed three games for awhile. and every time I checked the Sox and Yanks it was hard to believe.
You gotta wonder, if you look at the last two games, where on earth have they been all these months? Losing games they should have won with a simple hit to score RISP. The list is long. Now, they're on fire and hammering the Yankees, which is exactly what they need to do.
Slices of brilliance. Cora still looks distant, Boone dialed in and more intense.
Better you had just admit you got your clock cleaned in Fenway in the last 3 days...you are getting very, VERY close to getting a red box that says BANNED. Yup, we're still 8 out, but that has nothing to do with what we're talking about here...your team got hammered BIG TIME
TRUST ME, the lady with the magic key has a VERY LOW tolerance for nonsense. If you can't jump in with friendly banter and eliminate the trash language, you will be toast. You have been warned...and, it's a friendly warning!!
perk, I intentionally avoided the Yankees thread to avoid this guy and he followed me here anyway. I think it might be some sort of adolescent hero worship since his banter and jabs are pretty lame. he's also very easy to sucker as you'll se as soon as he reads this reply.
I don't get guys like him, their sole purpose at chatrooms like this seems to be to insult, brag about "their" Team and try to spread misery. I don't get it.......................over a freakin' sport!!

Canadian Soldiers are a recurring April-May fact of life here. from 1980-2004 I lived about 150 yards from the Lake. at the right time of year and right at dusk they would start to rise from the trees and form enormous swarms about 100-200 feet above ground. when it was quit you could hear the low din of their wingbeats.

Price, $31m per season. Season is half over. Price is 7-4, so, John Henry's wallet paid...
TWO MILLION, 214 THOUSAND, 285 DOLLARS for EACH of those pathetic 7 wins. He should have been stung for last night as well. Ahhh, but wait, Price, aka LOOOOZER, still has a shot at maybe 10 more starts, with 54 games to go. Either way, he gets a mega-boatlaod of $$$ for a single A pitcher's performance. Imagine, $31m for 6 months of throwing a baseball every 5th day.
Total bozo that Dumbo brought to the Red Sox organization. And Price has the stones to continue to have his silly issue with Eck. A classless LOOOOZER...maybe a miracle by 4PM, but not likely.

I agree with this assessment. They were short a slugger, bought themselves JD Martinez and he went out and had a career year (that combined with Betts).
There has been a lot of Sox bashing on this thread all year. Dudes - You just won the WS like 9 months ago.
Hey, how about those trades Dumbo and his sidekick, one Tony (I know baseball) LaRussa, aka "Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations" made. Try to get that on a business card. Really shored up the bullpen with those guys. Got a great closer and a really good starting pitcher...
Oops...never mind, they didn't do anything...as expected.

Still 9 back and 3rd place.
I figure the Yankees will probably win on Sunday because the Red Sox are worn out from running around the bases!!!
And they would still be 7 out.
