Though its not really possible to determine how "right" the price was on this, since it is an R6 and very thinly traded...my purchase price was the top price for this variety. Though there are ones technically graded a point higher, those specimens are NOT as nice as this one. The Eliasberg pedigree adds a value.
I paid too much for this 1848 CAL $2.50 gold ... gave the dealer a $10,000 profit with out knowning it ... but I like better it than pieces that have sold for thousands more at auction ...
AND I love the history of this piece ...
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I paid too much for my 1875p PCGS Ef40 CAC (in Sigline) but it was perfect and the exact coin I wanted/needed so a little pain now and I am good for a while.
