The facial and vest details of Lafayette are usually missing... So as I wanted this early die stage 5 years earlier had to step up to finally acquire it.
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
I don't deal with pops so I wouldn't have a clue. The 1812 O.107 die marriage is rather well known for all of the interesting die clashing on the reverse. I'm not clear if anyone else has a doubled profile and stars for this DM to the extent that this specimen exhibits. It could be a fairly unique coin for all I know.
It's a cool coin. Needless to say, I haven't lost interest in it during the ten years I've owned it. zap
Thanks for the reply Zap.I would be happy to own that specimen...extremely unique I would think. I never seen another one like it..As I have a Merc dime with extreme clash marks on the obverse. I will post a picture if I can find it...

I probably way over paid for this 1855-D gold dollar at the Summer FUN action. The piece is graded EF-45, but I think that it has enough luster, that does not show is this photo, to make AU-50 at least from the technical grading point of view. Just how badly I over paid will be evident shortly. There is an AU-53 graded piece that now up for auction.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
This one came from a David Perkins half dime auction in 2014 at the Summer ANA:
This one now has a green CAC sticker:
This one came from Teletrade many years ago. At the time, I thought I might have overpaid at about $2700, but I'm rethinking that now (it is R-6 and PCGS AU55 with a gold CAC)
And finally, this is an ex-Newman/Green that I purchased from Sheridan Downey. Images by Lance K
Had to bid nearly 65 money to win this unattributed 5-legger on the Bay several years ago. Not close to that grade, but pretty enough that I don't care.
Proud recipient of the coveted "You Suck Award" (9/3/10).
Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) 5$ bills are WOW with the numbers - wanted: 02121809 04151865 Wanted - Flipper notes with the numbers 6-9 or 0-6-9 ON 1$ 2$ 5$ 10$ 20$ Wanted - 10$ Sereis 2013 - fancy Serial Numbers
I have paid strong money for many of my coins...many would say too much. But I paid way too much for this Monroe and am likely buried for life. But I don't care. Never seen another quite like it.

jom, whatever you paid for the dime and the half dime, it was not too much. If you want to sell them at cost - I'd be happy to take them off of your hands and then I can bear the responsibility of 'paid too much and don't care' on these two!
I paid nearly 2X my bidding limit on this coin at Robison in 1982. You can get carried away trying out bid someone just as stubborn as yourself. I didn't care at the time but as the years marched on it was clear that it was one of my worst purchases ever. Let's just say that the Robison Proof 1839-0 half (NGC PF65 today) only sold for about 2.5X as much in the same sale. A good example that you CAN pay too much regardless if something is the finest known or whatever. It was recognized as a solid MS65 in 1988 by both NGC and PCGS. It took another 25+ years for PCGS to recognize it as a MS66. The longest I ever owned a condition census coin (22 yrs).
Paid a little over price guide. Don't have a Walker set. Doesn't fit a mint set. Just liked the coin and strike. From forum member stman. PCGS OGH AU58 Unattributed rpm 1.
