<< <i>I didn't see this posted and just received an e-mail from Bill Brewer:

A coin shop owner in Fayetteville, NC was pistol whipped and robbed Monday. Jim Dimmick was closing his store when 2 black males knocked on his shop door and was let in. They hit him in the face and head. He was taken to Chapel Hill Carolina and had head surgery. I will keep you posted as info comes in.
As to what was taken was a number of proof sets and silver eagles. As info is released I will be sending it also.

    Bill Brewer >>

I am very sorry to hear this tragic news and pray for his speedy recovery.

Hope all will be well. According to the police report it seems to have happened at 10:14 and this is as stated. Point of Entry/Front Door, Suspect Wore/Bandana, Weapon/Handgun, this is terrible. It also appears some items have been recovered so hopefully they caught the scum.

I do not know Jim but I hope he makes a full recovery.
I live in a great neighborhood and at my local shop you have to buzz in through to sets of doors and they always have three people in the store and they are all packing and there are only two of them on
the floor at one time the other is in the office behind a two way mirror. This is the world we live in now days.

I first met Jim through eBay, and had it not been for him and Ken (fairlaineman), I may have never found this place. I remember how anxious and yet excited he was when he decided to open the shop. He always seemed to be a straight shooter and certainly is an all around good guy.

I hope he makes a speedy recovery ... and if the attackers are apprehended ... I hope they don't recover at all

Jim isn't just one of the good guys.....he defines the term "good guy" and is a model for how a person should conduct business in our hobby. What a terrible crime.

I hope it doesn't cause him to think about shutting down his business. Coin dealers now need to be watching their backs and fronts at all times. If it means being ready to gun down someone so be it. I'd support it. 2 people in each shop may now be a min. requirement. I still think back sadly to the time when Bob Rose was killed during a robbery in his shop.

Get well soon Jim, we're all pulling for you.

Wow, I just stopped by Jim's table at the Fayetteville show on Saturday to pick up a few things and now this. I hope he gets well soon.

This was in my email when I got home - Jim is an active member in our coin club. I am sure there will be more to come.

Fayetteville police find Injured man at site of reported armed robbery
    A staff report

A bandana-wearing robber used a handgun to strike a coin-shop owner on the head Monday morning, according to Fayetteville police.

The robber, accompanied by another man, then stole an unknown amount of cash and coins from Jim Dimmick Coins, said Lt. Chris Davis, a Fayetteville police spokesman.

Jim Dimmick told police he opened the door to his business when the men knocked on it, Davis said.

Dimmick told police the men pulled bandanas over their faces as they entered and began to assault him, Davis said.

The robbery was reported at 10:18 a.m. When police arrived, they found Dimmick bleeding from lacerations to his face and head. The robbers had fled.

Officers called for a dog to try to track them but the animal was unable to pick up a scent, Davis said.

Dimmick was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Wishing Jim a speedy recovery! And yeah, when this kind of sh*t happens, I think back some years to the tragic slaying of Bob Rose as well. I think if I owned a B&M, I'd be armed to the teeth these days.

Not sure but since it was armed robbery with assault & battery I'm sure the penalty is much more severe.

I didn't know Jim but he's just a few hours from me. I hope he has a speedy recovery and wish the best for him and his family! Just remember it could have been much worse.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. While the wounds will heal, this incident will forever scar his soul. Hopefully the passage of time will help him recover. Certainly the best wishes of all his many friends will help. Hope they catch the perps and they resist arrest, if you know what I mean.

Jim - I wish you a full recovery and hope that all is made well with you. I am not sure which will take longer for Jim; recovering from his injuries, or reading through every post on this thread from well-wishers? Hopefully it is the latter. image
