He thought going through rehab would risk further damage, and it looks like that is what is happening. Schilling only agreed to the rehab because the Red Sox doctors forced him to -- if he did not, he would lose his salary. >>
It looks like there is now about a 100% chance that Schilling is done for the year; maybe forever. Too bad if it ends this way. Would have been better for him to hang it up after the WS victory.0 -

He confirmed he's having surgery on Monday. and in his own words "there's a decent chance that I have thrown my last pitch, forever." Sad to see it maybe end this way, but I have a feeling that if he can possibly pitch at all next year, he'll give it a shot. Thing is, the Sox really won't have a place in the rotation for him.0

Well if thats it from Curt then thats the way it has to be. We will always have a place in our hearts for him! Curt is a permanent member of Red Sox nation- what he helped us achieve was miracles.
I bet he is done after the surgery, agreed its too bad he couldnt have called it a career after the Win but he did what was best for him- we owe him that.

and WTF is up with loading the bases twice with less than two outs and coming away with one stinkin' run off a double play. This kind of performance just irks me. Don't get me started on Luso. Whoop-de-doo he got his first homer of the year, the errors are costly. double 0 -
Yeah Barndog, I agree. Luso is p!ssing me off. I think he's getting on Youk's nerves too. I say that just because of the look on his face the last couple times Luso has thrown wide of first.
And I know the guy has had a huge month of June, but Drew had a chance to be the hero in the 9th inning and he didn't come through. I know I'm being on hard on the guy, but dang it, I expect greatness out of that #3 spot.0 -

ouch, Matsuzaka was not ready for MLB. From what I forced myself to endure so far, he has topped out at 91 MPH on the fastball and can't control anything above 89 MPH for a strike. Ouch, again, ouch.0

It was too bad they gave up 8 in 2 innings. From the 3-9 innings we outscored them 3-1. Oh well. Better luck tomorrow. (Go Astros! Beat those Rays for us!)0

Wow, that was painful to watch!!
Did anyone think Drew couldh've caught the homerun ball?? I thought I saw it drop into the second row, did Drew maybe overrun the ball? Or was it further into the seats than I thought?
Anyway, tomorrow's another day. Thank goodness the Reds are lighting up the Yankees.

Al, I thought Drew had a shot at that HR ball too. I thought that he might have had a hard time tracking it down because of the sun though. It kinda looked like it surprised him how close it came to where he was standing at the wall.0

Hey Chad,
Looked to me like he over-ran the ball to his left by a few feet and then the ball just dropped into the second row of seats and he couldn't recover fast enough. I think Evans or Nixon make that catch.
The whole thing went downhill quickly after that...let's hope Lester is on today and at least grabs one game.

That 9-2 out was awesome. Drew made a great throw and V-Tek did a great job blocking the plate without putting himself in a position to get killed.
Now, let's hope that Lowell's leadoff single proves to be the magic bullet that the doubles haven't been.0 -

Can somebody explain to me why Cora was swinging away from pitch one during his at bat in the bottom of the 11th with the bases loaded and one out? I don't think he's known for clutch hitting, even so, to score the winning run, he'd have had to send it deep into the outfield. Why didn't he take a pitch or two and try to get ahead in the count, hopefully walking in the winning run?
Crazy but exciting game, definitely needed the win.0 -

we were screaming at Cora in my house. Just saw a guy walk with four straight balls (IIRC), yet he is swinging at everything, way out of the zone. Fugly at bat0 -

That was the worst at-bat this year from a red sox hitter. Of course the second through fifth worst are Varitek's -- he has been chasing some really bad pitches this year.0 -
It is alarming that the Yankees are quietly winning some games and are no longer looking like a .500 ball club- I still dont think their pitching staff can keep up their recent success, the Rays are still more of a threat IMO- the only thing they got against them is they are so young and inexperienced. It should be fun, hopefully Manny can shake that hammy issue and Papi comes back strong- we have been fine without him but when he does come back I want him batting after Drew, I believe we should keep Drew in the 3 hole until he gives us reason not to.0

in the end, I do believe it will be Boston and NY fighting it out for the one spot. Tampa may stay close for a while, but they won't be there come the last couple weeks of September. The NYY pitching staff should be able to let up six runs a game and still win 60% of the time. And if the Yankees have a lead in the 7th, fuggedaboutit, they are going to win 90% of those games. Should be fun later this summer!0
