I hope it starts to rain after a couple innings so that the D-Backs have to pull Haren from the game early. I don't miss that guy being in the AL at all.
The freak accident that whacked Youk's right eye, now caused Tito to use Moss at first. Casey now serving day one of his 3-day suspension for the stupid response to Coco getting hit (on the leg) by the Rays pitcher.
Said it before, Coco's charging the pitcher was dumber than a bag of rocks. We are now without Casey (to back up Youk) for the D-back series and now with him gone for 2 more days, it is obvious the weak spot is first base. Had Casey been in to relieve Youk after the accident, perhaps he doesn't fumble the ball at first like Moss did, AND maybe Casey throws the runner out at home. We'll never know. But when a 3rd stringer, who has little experience at first, is thrown into the mix at a crucial time in the game, the result is more often than not a negative...as we all saw.
Coco of course is still awaiting his 5-day suspension. Highly unlikely it'll get reduced, so we'll play Moss in the outfield (I'm guessing) and Coco will sit for 5 days. Could be a serious loss if the suspension is served while the Red Sox play the Yankees. What happens if Manny decides his hamstring is bothering him again?
Fighting may be good for the ego and manhood, blah, blah, but the result is you generally get screwed with fines and suspensions, which (according to Murphy's Law) will be served at a tough time.
Hopefully Youk's whack will be ok quickly, but from what I saw, that thing ballooned rapidly, and I suspect at this point his eye could even be closed by the swelling, ala a prize fighter. Who knows how long he'll be out? A week, more?
The bats need to wake up and do some damage. Varitek's plate performance is dismal and getting worse.
I see what your saying Al but the bottom line we got shut down last night- Haren has got nasty stuff so its no big suprise, we cant expect to win when we score only 1 run.
As far as Youk is concerned as long as his orbital bone is ok he should be back within a week, they will cut and drain that eye and he will end up with a just a black eye hopefully. V-Tek just cant hit anymore it seems but nobody calls a game like he does!
Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis has been sent to an eye specialist after getting hit in the face by a one-hop throw in practice, and will sit out Tuesday night's game against Arizona. The 2007 AL Gold Glove winner was struck under the right eye Monday night by Mike Lowell's throw during infield warmups. Youkilis arrived at Fenway Park on Tuesday afternoon with his eye swollen and watering. A CT scan on his face Monday night was negative. Boston manager Terry Francona said he hopes Youkilis will be back in the lineup Wednesday.
Question: if the game gets rained out tonight, does that count as one of the games/days towards Casey's suspension or does the game actually have to be played to count? Anyone know?

Good news on Youk!
As far as if it was rained out I would have to think that would NOT count, the game would have been rescheduled so it wouldnt have counted as he missed a game.
I was glad to see Lowell come up with that double and V-Tek knock that single in the 8th inning. I forgave Lowell for hurting Youk and I am just always happy for the captain when he does something good.
One of the nicer comeback wins for the Red Sox. FINALLY Varitek earns his pay with a clutch hit. Hopefully he continues to improve in the hitting department. Smith guy out of the bullpen is looking pretty sharp, as is Aardsma.
Remy's celebration was pretty cool. I'll bet his kids are already fighting for the keys to the Mustang. I don't think that dark green was the best choice for color, but it was free, pretty nice gesture. Wow, one of Remy's kids looks like he could press some serious weight in the gym.
Last day for Casey's penalty, now we gotta get Coco's 5 days served. Surely we won't lose him for the Yankee's series next weekend

Youkilis will tell you that it was he who was at fault. Those soft, short-hop throws are intentional -- part of the mid-inning warm-up process.

and Varitek earns his pay every day with the way he calls a game behind the plate. If he hits better than Mirabelli, that's just a bonus. I think he's a #9 hitter, but Francona likes someone in the 9 spot with speed (no brains or awareness, but speed)

Come on, Barndog. You know I wouldn't be a true Red Sox fan if I wasn't allowed to misplace blame for things happening on the field.
I said NADA about his game calling. He has become a mediocre batter, especially with RISP, often times making the 3rd out. So, for those of you who prefer he remain medicore, that's fine...I'm hopeful the guy can pick up his batting and do what he did last night, more frequently.
BTW, he makes MORE THAN $65k per game. I think a clutch hit now and then wouldn't be out of the realm of a player commanding that kind of salary in Professional Baseball. And, Varitek as of recently, simply hasn't been able to connect.
Al, we are ALL in agreement with you as far as wanting him to hit, he has been in a 1-31 slump I think? Other than this slump, we dont expect him to hit 20HRs and drive in 80 although it would be nice, however the clutch hits coming more often than not would be much appreaciated!
Should be interesting to see what DiceK has in his tank tonight. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of his last outing! DelCarmen and Aardsma looking good out of the bullpen...Hansen has to be living out of his suitcase, I wonder if his days are numbered.
I'm guessing Coco's suspension begins today (dont' know for sure), but if it's 6 days, 3 in Houston and conveniently 3 with the Rays. Geez, just when the guys got a hot bat!!
Interesting series between the Yankees and Mets today. Day-night double header, first game in Yankee stadium, night game at the Mets house. I say GO METS!! Too bad it was a rainout in Pittsburgh, looked like the Pirates had the Yankees number.
So, quick story...I get a notice to renew my car and truck registration. I live in Georgia (about 25 miles south of Atlanta). I check out the DMV website and see they offer a "new" tag (back home it's license plates, here it's tags). The new tag I want is a Bronze Star tag (other "new" offerings as well). So, I thought I'd apply for one. I drag out the DD214 and off I go to the Registry. I pay for my car and truck registrations, then ask about the Bronze Star tag. Lady tells me only 87 people have applied for the tag, and they need 1,000 before they'll make the tags. Odd enough, but for the government, it makes perfect sense. Sooo, the place is very slow and I ask the lady if I can get a "REDSOX" tag. Nope, it's taken. How about RED-SOX , nope, it's taken. How about "BOSTON", nope, it's taken. So, for grins I ask for "REMDAWG"...well, I got REMDAWG. My wife thinks I've lost my mind.
If I ever finally buy a digital camera, I'll take a pic and try to post it here. Maybe Paul (the Perkdog) can give me some pointers later.
<<Lester in line for the win despite a bad inning>>
As the great Roberto Duran once said "No Mas"
"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
Yes it is entertainment, especially when the Red Sox lose by one measly run and the Yankees win by one.

Tough loss last night after being up 9-6 late in the game.
The upcoming 7 games with the Rays and Yankees give the Red Sox a huge opportunity to hurt the competition. Should be some tough baseball. This time next week should tell quite a story.

Agreed! This is a HUGE set of games coming up, hopefully we can break away from the pack and win at least 5 out of 7 of these games.
Another 4 hits out of Pedroia last night- again this kid has been on an absolute tear!
A 2 month old and a 16 month old ..... not to mention the 14 year old and 18 year old have kept me from hobby time. Just wanted to check in and let ya know that the Sox SUCK the same as always

Good to hear from you Dan! Congrats on the newborn, hopefully you will find some time to stop back in again- preferably at seasons end to see what kind of beer I would like to drink.

I hope he is OK, what a kick in the seat- hits a Game Winner last night and for good measure gets hit like that.

Guy is tough as nails though. Looked like he didn't want to come out of the game last night, even with the swollen eye.
