I just started sorting, but I'm seeing what appears to be a semi-SP checklist developing. It looks like the GBs that have a matching BB are SPs compared to the true base cards. Not as scarce as the actual SPs, but noticeably less of these GB than the others. For example, take a look at the # of GBs you have of 360, 350, 347, etc (down the BB checklist). I'm only familiar w/ the 07 Heritage - did they do a 'semi-SP' thing in any of the previous years?
All I can say is that I have no self control at all, my seven boxes will be here next week but I still had to call around and see if I could find any locally today. I found 4 boxes for $75/box at a shop I had never been to before and the guy told me he would do $70/box if I bought more than one. I get there already convinced I'm buying all 4 boxes, I ask the guy if there were any big pulls out of the case and he said one of his customers had pulled a red ink auto, it was actually nice to see a little honesty out of a card shop owner dealing with a new customer. The fact that the case auto had already been pulled put me off a little, but the guy must have been able to tell and said he would sell me the four boxes at $65/box. I know that is still high compared to internet prices, but between the guys honest and the discount I felt good about buying all four even though it probably means not hits. Sorry for the long rant, but I just wanted to share a good card shop experience. Now to start ripping.
The 2005 set kind of had a similar situation where there was a gray back and a white back version of 220 base cards. The actual base cards all had gray backs, but the ones with a corresponding white back card were scarcer than the base cards that had no white back variation.
anyone looking for 05, 06 or 07 common cards, I also have a few starter set available of approx 30-200 cards depending on year. Also, found 44 sp's and variation for th e07 set. please PM if you need anything, these need to go soon I'd like you guys to have em!

i've thought about getting started on these heritage sets. what are you looking to get?
White Whales: 1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold Ozzie Smith 2006 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Chris Carpenter
Paul, (Prscott), I've got thousands of loose base and sp's, etc, from prior years, as well as several near-complete base sets. So once you figure out which sets you might want to tackle, feel free to drop me a pm.
I have busted 7 boxes so far and have 2 more to go. I am trying to sort as I go because with A&G I keep busting boxes and gave up on sorting after I got half way through. I probably should have picked up a case to give me a better chance at an auto or 2, but I guess you live and learn. I have picked up 4 boxes from 2 different shops and 1 from another.
Here are my results so far:
3 Buy Backs: Gus Zernial Bobby Tiefenauer Bill Skowron
No ink
6 clubhouse collection relics (1 box did not have an auto or relic) Aramis Ramirez Hank Blalock Pedro Martinez Richie Sexson Garret Anderson Ryan Zimmerman
1 Black Refractor: Miguel Cabrera
9 Refractors: Albert Pujols Brandon Webb Ubaldo Jimenez Todd Helton Brian Bannister Brian Mccann Derek Lee Fausto Carmona BJ Upton
20 reg. Chromes: Jose Valverde Ben Sheets Rick Ankiel Ivan Rodriguez Trevor Hoffman Chris Young Eric Byrnes Ryan Braun Alex Rodriguez Kelvin Escobar Dontrelle Willis Derek Lee Barry Zito Jeff Francis Vladimir Guerrero Ian Kinsler Alex Rios Tori Hunter Roy Oswalt Ichiro
Have not gone through to see about SP's or black backs yet.

you sure did well on the refractors, I only got 4 and no blacks through 7 boxes
I picked up 3 hobby boxes today at the Philly show (there's $182 i'll never see again) and didnt get that much closer, so here's the updated list until retail surfaces:
Haven't seen this card discussed yet, but I just came across a #323 Juan Encarnacion card, but it looks like it's actually a photo of Edwin (slightly different than the photo of Edwin in his actual card). The signature is Juan though. This is the only #323 I've sorted so far. Anyone care to check if their #323's are all like this. Was #323 in the 1959 set an error?
<< <i>I picked up 3 hobby boxes today at the Philly show (there's $182 i'll never see again) and didnt get that much closer, so here's the updated list until retail surfaces:
Well, I picked up my three modest hobby boxes from the shop this morning. I did ok...have probably 15 or so chrome and refractors up for trade for you guys in exchange for SPs, as I don't build the chrome set.
Here's something I found really interesting as I went through one of my boxes:
In this particular box, in every single pack, card #6 and #8 were the exact same card, except #6 was the green back version and #8 was the black back version. It was pretty cool to see once I noticed the pattern.
I also pulled my first ever redemption- a Scott Podsednik real one autograph. Being a big White Sox fan, I'm not sure if I would trade this, especially since it may not be worth that much.
I'm working on my spreadsheet right now. I'm somewhat anal about it. I like to list all of the black backs and variations and then add bold highlight lines every nine cards, basically to show how the cards will lay out in my binder once I put the cards into sheets. I also add formulas to keep a running tally of how many SPs and variations I have to date. I'm putting this together from scratch, using Pharber's nice lists, along with the recent Topps checklist and press release for SPs and variations, and finally I will check it against Geordie's list.
The one thing I'm not certain on yet is whether or not the Santana Mets and the "Jon" Smoltz cards are "super" SPs and whether or not I should list them as part of the set.
Give me a few days to get my lists together, and then I'll be ready for some trades.
<< <i>The one thing I'm not certain on yet is whether or not the Santana Mets and the "Jon" Smoltz cards are "super" SPs and whether or not I should list them as part of the set. >>
If it doesn't have stated odds, it doesn't go in my master set.
Oh man, I was at walmart tonight and I go over by the cards and there 4 massive boxes from beckett. THE NEW RELEASES!!!!
I was sure there would be heritage in those boxes, but no such luck, just old junk and pokemon. This means that retail at walmart will be out later than anticipated. I can only hope that target doesn't follow the same time line!
I will be looking to add the Smoltz, Wright, and Santana to my master set. I had a chance to pick up the Gordon cut out from a board member right after release back in 06, but though that 50 bucks was too much, I have regreted ever since, call me a perfectionist, but the variations are what makes heritage heritage, I think all three of those players will be future HOF'ers, so its worth getting them now.
Just thought that I would finally chime in. I've been waiting for my case to come in....but I was finally able to locate some Heritage today at a local shop hidden down a side street. I walked in and saw an empty box sitting on the counter (actually it had most of the gum still inside) - usually not a good sign! All he had was a broken box with 16 packs in it which the owner said he "wasn't sure" what had been pulled from it. Although my mind said to not even bother, I felt like a addict needing my fix - so I took all of them. 4th pack yielded a Mike Baxes Red Auto. So I guess like Doran's experience, there still are honest shop owners out there! Plus he sold me the contents of the box on the counter for $10 (no chromes or relics) - but 10 SP's and a ton of commons. Anyways, best of luck to all and keep the posts coming.
the long odds do tend to play in your favor, nice pull on the red auto. Back in 2001 I pulled an Arod auto from what looked like 8 packs of searched retail cards. You never know.
I was looking through my cards, and you really don't appreciate this set until you start putting it together. I did notice while sorting the black backs that the checklist cards and the thrills card hard to see, so if you are missing them, you might just have them, the printing on the back is black not green.
So after reading the beckett boards and checking my own cards, I have come to the conclusion that any common card that has a black parallel will be in shorter supply than a common card that doesn't have a black parallel.
So that card #1 will pull say 20 times in a certain number of cases. Card #2 might pull only 10 times with the green box and 10 times with the black box

Is this what everyone else is seeing?
Thanks Kevin >>
This sounds suspiciously like some convoluted math thingie, and I refuse to play along. However, I will not be leaving the hobby over it......
...yes, that's what I'm seeing, Kevin. Thanks for making it sound better than I could have explained it.
Maybe it's just my crappy luck, but in the 2 boxes I opened, I probably got doubles of all the base cards and none of the corresponding greenbacks to the blackbacks. I wasn't happy at all my the collation in those 2 boxes.

LOL - you know they said things go in 3s so it might take 4 in this case

I'm putting this together from scratch, using Pharber's nice lists, along with the recent Topps checklist and press release for SPs and variations, and finally I will check it against Geordie's list.
The one thing I'm not certain on yet is whether or not the Santana Mets and the "Jon" Smoltz cards are "super" SPs and whether or not I should list them as part of the set.
Give me a few days to get my lists together, and then I'll be ready for some trades.

If it doesn't have stated odds, it doesn't go in my master set.
I like that reasoning.
I was sure there would be heritage in those boxes, but no such luck, just old junk and pokemon. This means that retail at
walmart will be out later than anticipated. I can only hope that target doesn't follow the same time line!
I will be looking to add the Smoltz, Wright, and Santana to my master set. I had a chance to pick up the Gordon cut out from a board
member right after release back in 06, but though that 50 bucks was too much, I have regreted ever since, call me a perfectionist, but
the variations are what makes heritage heritage, I think all three of those players will be future HOF'ers, so its worth getting them
now.
I can't wait to see the LRCards cases.

of searched retail cards. You never know.
I was looking through my cards, and you really don't appreciate this set until you start putting it together. I did notice while sorting
the black backs that the checklist cards and the thrills card hard to see, so if you are missing them, you might just have them, the
printing on the back is black not green.
So after reading the beckett boards and checking my own cards, I have come to the conclusion that any common card that has a black
parallel will be in shorter supply than a common card that doesn't have a black parallel.
So that card #1 will pull say 20 times in a certain number of cases.
Card #2 might pull only 10 times with the green box and 10 times with the black box
Is this what everyone else is seeing?
Thanks
Kevin
<< <i>the long odds do tend to play in your favor, nice pull on the red auto. Back in 2001 I pulled an Arod auto from what looked like 8 packs
of searched retail cards. You never know.

This sounds suspiciously like some convoluted math thingie, and I refuse to play along. However, I will not be leaving the hobby over it......
...yes, that's what I'm seeing, Kevin. Thanks for making it sound better than I could have explained it.
Dodgers collection scans | Brett Butler registry | 1978 Dodgers - straight 9s, homie
Maybe a 3rd box would help.
<< <i>Maybe it's just my crappy luck, but in the 2 boxes I opened, I probably got doubles of all the base cards and none of the corresponding greenbacks to the blackbacks. I wasn't happy at all my the collation in those 2 boxes.

LOL - you know they said things go in 3s so it might take 4 in this case
<< <i>gettin ready to rip box #8 >>
But the Red Sox havent scored yet Zep.
cracked it, got a buyback in this one
That Smoltz pictured is a variation, like the Santana Mets variation & the Dick Perez Wright. I didn't get any of the 3 in my case.
