Al, I always say that it's not the size of your inventories, but what you have in it! image

So, I'm still waiting on my sub. I have a feeling that it'll be in February before I hear anything. image

It's so weird how some orders are in and out in a few days and others wait months before anything happens. You'd think that they'd want to keep the 'bulk' submission folks happy to keep their business flowing. I know that it's a balancing act.....grade and service three or four customers for the same amount of cards or just one customer. But, you have to balance things out a bit. Sure seems that things are off....unless PSA puts out one of those 'good' news stories or promotions, anything negative (or perceived so) will blow up much larger than what it should be. Then, more customers will migrate to BGS (modern) or SGC (vintage).

Arny, you are right about the bulk orders. I sent in a bulk order of mostly 60's stuff back before Thanksgiving. It didn't get logged in until December 3rd and I'm still waiting on the return. I have another order of 125 cards that I just mailed this morning with a bunch of the 1956 Gum Adventure cards in it and some 60's baseball as well. This will be interesting to see how the .5 grades work on these. al.

Al, I don't think the half grades start until February subs. I think you'll get the whole number treatment.

<< <i>Wow Jim! Great job on the Rogers....is it available for sale/trade? image

Also, great job on the Stenhouse and Bell cards as well as that Griffin. For some reason that was a tough one for me to find at one time, but I found three or four (submitted three, I believe) that has shots at 10s. Went from finding none to hittin' the mutha load!

Bill...as far as the 1/2 grades....I don't think that it'll affect us '84 Donruss guys as we go for 9s at minimum. But, I'm not happy overall. As a matter of fact, I've started looking into going with SGC on some non-sport sets that I'm looking to submit. Anyways, I'm not sure that I'm going to have an issue with the 1/2 grades except for the fact that I'm going to be piecing my '57 Topps set again. If they would've done 9.5s....things would be A LOT different and I would be highly unlikely to use them in the future. >>

Hi Arny... of course the Rogers is availableimage I planned on listing it and the other 84D's on ebay after I receive my order back from PSA, but if someone makes me offers prior to that, I certainly will consider them.

I truly don't comprehend why your sub hasn't popped yet. Even though I am happy that mine popped so quickly, I just don't see how PSA can justify making you wait 2+ months while mine was processed in 2-3 days. Sure, mine was smaller, but it just doesn't make any sense to push mine through right away while yours has been sitting there for weeks.

    Checklist #6.

    PSA 8's where the 9's and 10's are quite difficult: Steel Checklist, Steele Checklist, 4 Steele, 8 Steele, 14 Steele, 15 Steele, 23 Steele, 119, 219, 248, 441, 442, 480, 481, 482, 490, 502, 535, 536, 537, 539, 544, 547, and 554.

For all you 84D collectors, at this point I am looking to trade for the following cards (9 or better): 16 and 23 Steele and 47 Murray. I would also entertain equitable trades for any 10's I do not have in my registry set (#3 in Current Finest under Spahnfan's 84D Master set).

Arny, since you have asked for many of these, I will give you first crack at: 14 Steele, 15 Steele, 24 Steele, 471, 535 (if you still need it), 544, 546, and 605.

Brent, I will give you first crack at the following: 471 (I do have two, one for you and one for Arny), 539 and both the Steele and Steel checklists.

I'm just taking a look each day to see if the sub pops, but until now I've been disapointed every time. image

Hopefully it's because they can't believe how GREAT those cards that I sent in are and how many 10s are coming back! image

I'm getting the Horner from you (depending on my sub, of course)....but, I still needed a couple of the ones that Spahnfan mentioned. The others are on "hold" (if he's nice enough to do that) until my sub gets graded.

Anyways, that's cool. Our deal is still on. REALLY hoping for the extra Youngblood 9! Go Arny! I really hope your sub pops soon for your sake. It's just torture, I know. By the way, on a recent sub of mine, they made four more mechanical errors! image I really wish they knew what they were doing sometimes. One of the cards was sent back twice and is still wrong!!

Thanks, Al. You had a pretty nice set going yourself. Are you sure you don't want to get back into the set? Would love to have your excitement for the set back on the boards. You can see I have enough graded cards to give you more than just a little start again. And I still have a lot of high grade raw left also. Let me know if there is anything I can do to entice you.

Arny and Brent, I am not trying to interfere with something you two have agreed to. Just trying to offer an alternative in case you can use the cards for a needed trade elsewhere. Let's wait for Arny's sub to pop and see what the needs are then. In the meantime I will put the designated cards aside for both of you.

Thanks for the invite back Spahnfan. However I'm concentrating on my basketball sets at the current time and have started another set recently that has really enticed me. Not sure if any of you are familiar with the 1956 Gum Adventure set but I purchased a large lot of ungraded that were in great condition as a start. I've sent about 60 cards in for grading and have recently purchased about 20 others (mostly the boxing cards). Once I finish up on this one or tire of it who knows, maybe 84 will entice me backimage

Hey guys, sorry I've been MIA for the last week or so. Things heated up at work, plus my sister-in-law was visiting from Europe for the last 3 weeks. Anyway, I've been thinking about what to do with my Rogers PSA-10 and I think I will be doing a private auction, mostly based on the several inquiries I've gotten from this thread, as well as a few other forums. I just picked it up today, so I will get a scan and more details up... hopefully a little later tonight.

    Until then... cheers!

Hope this doesn't break protocal, but about 2 years ago Bill (BugOTR) sent me a bunch of scans of this set and I really liked it a lot. Finally got a jump on a raw set, but am missing 40-50. Does anyone have a stash of cards that won't get 9's and 10's with sharp corners they'd be willing to sell? Or 7's or 8's (figuring anything below a 9 is not what you're all going for) that have nice eye appeal? Or a lead to a dealer? If I piece them together one by one off ebay the shipping will be more than the cards.
I'm not sure why '89 Upper Deck always gets the nod as the best set of the '90's, when this one is far superior IMO. The photography is flawless.

Hi guys... OK, I finally decided on the terms of the pop-1 Steve Rogers #219 PSA-10 that I just got back from PSA. I am going to try running a silent auction rather than listing it on ebay. I've been toying with the idea of doing this for certain high-demand cards for a while, but when ebay anounced their new fee structure last week, it put me over the top on looking for a decent ebay alternative for certain cards. Anyway... on to the details:

Format: Silent Auction (more details below)
    Minimum bid: $175
Auction end date: Sunday, Feb 10th at 11:59pm Pacfic Time
Bids accepted via PM on CU boards or e-mail at: palacegetaway@yahoo.com
Payment: PayPal, Bank Money Order or Cashier's Check (due within 1 week of auction end)

About this card... this is a population 1, PSA-10, 1984 Donruss Steve Rogers #219. In recent months, 84 Donruss pop-2 to pop-4 cards have gone for over $180 on ebay.

About silent auctions... here's how it works: 1) bidders decide the maximum amount they will pay for the item and send that to me via PM or e-mail. 2) At the end of the auction, the person with the highest bid will win the card for that amount. 3) bidders may submit multiple bids, as long as they are received by the deadline. 4) all bids are private, meaning I will not divulge amounts or details to any of the other bidders.

I've sold quite a few 84-D on ebay over the last few month. If you want to check my feedback there, my user ID is: palace-resorts-cancun

Finally, I will pay for regular shipping including insurance, regardless of the final auction amount. See scans below. Feel free to ask any questions before submitting bid.

Some of the bigger wallets for these low pop 10s might be on eBay rather than these boards. So, you might want to go that route Jim.

I'd love to have that card, but at that price I can pick up 9 or 10 PSA 10 upgrades and I'd rather do that at this point in the game. image

Good luck and I hope you get a TON of dough for it! Makes the '84s that much more desirable when the cards get big bucks! image

Agree with Arny. Nice consideration on your part, but I think the $180 is more an anomaly than the norm. Geez, several years ago I was selling 84D's 1/1's for around $30-35. Big fish weren't biting back then - they weren't even in the water! I'd head straight to ebay or 'those' buyers for an offline deal.

<< <i>84 Donruss pop-2 to pop-4 cards have gone for over $180 on ebay. >>

    IMO, that's just absolutely nuts.

concur with bug and arny....ebay is the way to go.....if the bidding gets going you will be pleasantly surprized.......

Thanks for the feedback guys... based on some responses I got before, I thought this would be a good route to go, but I'm not so sure now. I was also on tilt the last few days because of ebay's new fee policy (although I know it does not take effect until Feb 20th). I knew I could get $180+ on ebay, but I thought if I got that here, I could save the fees. Not that used to worry about $5-8 that much, but recent event have forced me to start being really careful with my selling (not leaving any money on the table, no matter how small.

Anyway, I suspect that if I do not get any bites by tonight, I will revoke the silent auction and resort to the bay.

Ichirofan, man, I'd love to buy that card, but just can't come up with that kind of moolah right now.

Guys, I'm putting a PSA 10 Eddie Murray #47 up on ebay tonight. With only 6 10's, it has to be the toughest HOFer card in the set. Only starting at 19.99.

    Still waiting! image

    Someday......sheesh.

I piggybacked on another order and it's part of a bulk submission and those things can take three months sometimes. So, the two of us are checking on a daily basis! But, no dice so far.

I know, it's torture. lol I have never heard of a sub taking this long. I't a little ridiculous. Especially for someone like yourself who's been such a solid customer of PSA. Maybe it will pop soon.
