<< <i>I know, it's torture. lol I have never heard of a sub taking this long. I't a little ridiculous. Especially for someone like yourself who's been such a solid customer of PSA. Maybe it will pop soon. >>

Well, I didn't renew my PSA membership. But, I piggybacked on another 'solid' member's order. So, together we have something around 150 cards with my portion being around 95 cards IIRC.

I'll just have to try and keep my mind off of it.....somehow. image

Edited to add: This was post #2000 for this thread! We have some amazing cards and a pretty good following on this thread. Congrats to all! image

  • Yeah, I couldn't believe that when I checked on them this morning. I figured the Rogers was a lock for $200 or more but I'm a bit surprised the other to are as high as they are already... especially the pop-4 Stenhouse. Looks like a couple of new players in the fray, plus pjpmint appears to have gotten really serious on these. Well, we'll see what happens but even if they ended at what they are at now, I'd still be very happy.

  • Yes, I'm seriously considering it. The Rogers is up to $280 now and none of us took it at $180. The 1/2 Buddy Bell is up to $202 and I have the other one. I have 10 or 11 1/1's. It just doesn't seem as though my luck is as good when I go to sell something. I guess we could always reserve the auctions. This is just serious money being thrown around. I just traded the exact Kittle to Spahnfan that got over $476. Just unbelievable really. And who are these guys ponying up this cash? I'm not sure the two or three major players lately are even on the registry. What do you plan to do?

I guarantee you if I still had my 84D registry set, the low-pops would be put on the bay. I simply can't believe the prices being paid. I had several 1/1's years ago that are still 1/1's. If a dk steele kittle psa 10 can bring $476, the McGraw, Chambliss, Hernandez, etc. psa 10's should be in the $500-1K group. In all my years of collecting 84D's, I've not seen anything like this........ image

If psa 9's are reasonably plentiful to a corresponding 10, I'd start there. I don't put much stock in a low pop 10 if there are several of 9's. On the other hand, to catch the gravy train, you may want to put the most difficult out there now before 'they' run out of money.

  • Well, I'm not too worried about that, as long as either upsala or pjpmint end up winning them. I've dealt with both in the past and have no doubt that they will pay in a timely manner. I'm not familiar with a couple of other bidders on these cards, and I haven't seen any bids from the guy who won that Kittle. That guy might worry me a bit as he only has a 1 for feedback, but based on his user name (indian-whitesox-fan, or something like that), I'm not expecting to see a bid from him since none of the 3 cards I have listed are Tribe or Sox. Maybe there's a last minute bid coming from a wealthy Expos fanatic... but I'm not counting on it. The Rogers is already at about what I was hoping for for all 3 cards, so you'll get no complaints here... even if they all go for what they're at now.

sell them NOW, they are '84's for christsake, you will be able to buy them back for much less, or settle on nice 9's!
  • Looking back, maybe I put my Hickey 1/2 up to soon. But it is hard to complain about the price I received.
It appears upsalallamerican has new competition from a new ebayer with just 14 feedback.

Ichiro...congrats on the Rogers. The Bell looks to be aligned with the right bidders for another big return.

Brent..... if I had some of those 1/1's a few would be hitting eBay, riding the wave.

You should know exactly what to do. $0.20 listing day is upon us and you should post the prices you won't mind selling them at. If your cards get hit, your set is basically paid for.
  • thanks Piman... I don't think there's any way any of us could have predicted what's happened with the recent few low pop 10's, so you're right to be happy with what you got on the Hickey. There are a number of variables in play here, but the bottom line is, there now appear to be between 1-4 people that are willing to push Upsala higher than before on these cards. And that's without Brent bidding, who I know was pushing him at one point not so long ago. Bottom line, I think it just shows that there is new & continued interest in what is easily the best set of the 80's, and I think we're all glad to see that.

Did you guys see that somebody (ebay ID rvc9911) listed several pop-4 to pop-6's yesterday? Maybe that's somebody from this board cuz I know a couple of you guys were seriously considering listing yours. The .20 cent listing deal is indeed perfect timing cuz now you can list those cards for the lowest you'd be confortable letting them go for, while not paying the extra $$ for higher starting values. And bottom line, if 2-4 of these heavy hitters need that card, a higher initial bid (of say $40-$60) obviously shouldn't make much of an impact. Seems like a win-win to me... I just wish I had a few more 10's already graded to throw out there.

  • You're right Ichiro, it is positive for collectors of this set. Congrats on your sells. And yeah, these guys are willing to push upsala.. much farther than even I did. I wonder who they are. And I did notice that someone put some 5-6 pops up. I put two pop 4's up. It will be interesting to see what happens.
One very cool thing is that the new Beckett Graded Card Investor that came out yesterday, the cover story is on 80's sets being graded, and specifically talks about how 1984 Donruss is "quietly gaining steam amoung registry collectors" and how people should keep their eye out for this set's emergence. Really cool. This can only help this set with all the readers Beckett has and the interest is could create.

  • yeah... that's good news about that article. As a seller specializing in this set, I need a stream of new collectors to help drive demand & pirces. While recent events are great (from my perspective), eventually, the these big-bidders will start to complete their sets and prices will start to drop if new people aren't coming in to pick up the slack. Still, since you are pretty much done with your set, and PJP & Upsala get closer, I'm pretty sure prices will start to come down. I think you and PJP are among the regular top end bidders for a set like this and guys like Upsala (with seemingly limitless funds) are more of an exception. My problem now is that I've got a stack of about 200 potential low-pop 10's that I need to send in for grading. I have to move it on those or I feel like I'm going to miss the upswing. I think pop-1's and pop-2's will probably still command a good premium, but I can't see the pop-5 craze continuing for too much longer... but that's just my opinion. Anyway.... interesting stuff to be sure. Good luck to the rest of you who decide to post some low-pops!

I also have to applaud these guys that keep putting bids in yet almost always get outbid by Upsala. Gotta be frustrating, but they keep plugging away. We'll see if some of these new guys can keep it up as well...

  • Got a question for Arny or some of the other long-timers on this thread...

I know that the 84-D factory-sealed sets have the Steele variation DK's as well as the numbered (29 & 30) variations on Stenhouse & Darling. However, is that the ONLY way to get these variations/corrections, or did some later produced wax boxes also have the corrected versions. If yes, have any of you ever pulled any correct versions from a was box or pack?

    Just curious...

  • Yes, the ONLY way to get the corrected versions is from the factory sets. And the only way to get the errors or cards A and B were through wax packs or triple cellophane packs. There were no vending boxes or other kind of source for the 84 D's.

<< <i>Did you guys see that somebody (ebay ID rvc9911) listed several pop-4 to pop-6's yesterday? Maybe that's somebody from this board cuz I know a couple of you guys were seriously considering listing yours. >>

That's Robert. And yes, he's from the boards. He's taken some time off which allowed myself and Brent to stay ahead of him. But, once he gets back into the swing of things, he'll probably have the best set. All of his cards are 10s! His GPA is 10.00! And he's 88% complete!

He was one of the three main players (Bill-BugoftheRug, Robert-rvc and me) while kicking off this thread.

Anyways, I will probably list some of my low pops with some reserves tonight under my wife's eBay ID (I'm still in disputes with mine image ).

  • Well, something really strange just happened with my Bell card. Upsala did not attempt to outbid the webfoot guy for some reason. I know he's active today cuz he outbid on the Stenhouse a couple of hours ago, which is currently at $275. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have the $214 for the Bell, but it just doesn't make sense that he'd be engaged in bidding and then not follow through at the end. I thought that he may have a last minute snipe set, but it wasn't so. I've been watching this guy's bidding habits for the last few months and to my knowledge, this is only the 2nd time he lost out on an 84-D PSA-10 (the first being that $500 Kittle, which I can understand). Anyway, I hope this isn't a sign that his funds are running low. Still, why would he go for the pop-4 Stenhouse and leave the pop-2 Bell sitting there... weird stuff!

Strange bidding pattern there Jim. Oh well, you did great either way!

I wanted to try and take advantage of the .20 listing day, but I'm way too tired to get all of this done tonight. I'll get them done in the next couple of days. Hopefully the big money guys aren't wasting all of their money on the few that have been out there lately.

  • Hey Arny, I need like 15 or 16 of the cards you are looking to sell. Send me a PM with what it would take to buy them from you. I'd like first crack before these guys buy them and breathe down our neck. Besides, I could also include my 9's in the trade so you wouldn't lose your sets completeness. Thanks man

  • Wow... did you guys see what happened with that Dravecky DK pop-1? Sure, Upsala won in for $250.27, and PJP bid his usual $177, but there was another guy in there that bid $247.77! And, this guy was not one of the other 2 big bidders on any of my 3 auctions. Could this mean there is now a 4th guy willing to fork out $200+ for low-pop 10's? Let's hope so!

  • Ichiro, I bid on the Dravecky. That has to be the best card in the set. There had only been one 9 ever until that 10 came out of nowhere. Toughest card in the set hands down. I was either gonna buy it, or make ups pay plenty. I wouldn't pay quite that much for any low pop, but that may be the only time we see that card in a 10 ever. To me it should have gone for more than the Rogers, but who can figure this stuff out with these guys.

Anyone here have an extra raw Joe Carter rookie? I'm putting set together for someone and I'm missing it. Rather than going through ebay and paying for shipping in a white envelope or something, I'd rather pick one up from someone here who might have a dupe.

Also, I have a few others cards (20 total) that I might need. I've got a list that I'm working on and I still have to go through a few commons that I don't have perfectly sorted. So, I'll know those tonight or tomorrow.

Hi guys, I've been unable to log in for a few days, just had my basement redone and was offline....noticed that a Kittle was recently for sale, did it sell??? who was winning bidder...my curiousity needs to be satisfied since I noticed mention of a indywhitesoxfan1 bidder (or something like that) with low feedback........the name I have listed recently won a kittle from me on the 15th of January and I havent been paid yet.......don't want to panic anyone but thought I'd mention....hopefully in today's mail...it was low dollar value but you'd think it would have been taken care of by now...

    al.
  • Yeah, that Kittle went for $476.66 to indywhitesoxfan1 (with 1 feedback). He amazingly beat out Upsala for it, who was the only other guy to bid over $200.

Brent, yeah... I thought about that user ID last night after I posted and figured it might have been you. You're right about that card though... based on numbers alone, it's the toughest in the set, so certainly worth a shot at it. I even put in a low bid in case everyone else just missed it, but I really knew it would get detroyedimage Looks like Upsala won several high $$ auctions yesterday in addition to my Stenhouse and the DD-DK. I'm going to check them out and see if there were any new bidders in there.

  • Well, doesn't look like any new (high end) bidders on the dozen or so PSA-10's to sell yesterday. Just a note that might interest you guys... Upsala has spent about $1,900 on 84 Donruss PSA-10's... just in the last 2 days! I still don't get why he gave up on that 1/2 Bell at $200 (which I guess is actually a pop-3 now according to the new pop report), considering he forked out $300 for the pop-3 Speier.

I'm not going to sweat since it's only a small amount and the card is still residing in my home... weird how Little Kittles all of a sudden popped into my head....remember those from years agoimage
