    Yes - we can all agree that Dan Duquette had a lot to do with Clemens leaving Boston on a sour note back in the mid 90's. But here is where Clemens proves that he is a selfish jerk, who cares only about himself and the almighty $$$$$. Let me add in first that, I did not want him to come in and break up what is clearly the best starting rotation in the AL, especially at the dollar amount it would have taken to get him.

    But, Clemens had a chance to really make history here. He could have opted to return to Boston, where it all began for him, and perhaps pass Cy Young himself as the winningest pitcher in Sox history. He could have renewed his relationship with the Boston fan base, had his number #21 retired, and gone into the hall with a Boston uniform. But, Clemens is about two things - money, and ego. The Yanks couldn't offer him anything other than the most money. He already has his rings with them, a Cy Young with them, and more money than he could ever spend. So, what does he do? He signs with the Yanks for the most money.

    I hope Theo gives #21 to a batboy this season.

    Duquette, overall, was probably a lousy GM (with deals like $8mm per to Jose Awfulmann), but, lucky for the Sox, his fumbing of Clemens led to the signing of Pedro, the one GOOD think Duquette did.

    You hit the nail on the head here. Next year when Clemens plays the same game I hope we dont even extend an offer to him, as far as Im concerned Clemens is not welcome in Boston ever again. Unless ofcourse he is getting shelled by Red Sox hitters, tell you what, how sweet will it be IF and I say IF the Red Sox win the division and Clemens does not even get to pitch in the playoffs or better yet him losing to us in a playoff game.

    The latest rumor is that the Sox offered 10 MILLION, yes MILLION less than the Yanks. The original story was there were no other offers??? I hope he gets shelled in the yaaaaad

    DeSalvo pitched great yesterday. He only gave up 1 run in 7 innings. It was too bad about that botched umpire call or he might have gotten the win. I know it's only one game but I wish the Yankees gave some of these young guys more of a chance before they went out and pulled a Rent-a-Rocket. 26 year old Rasner gave up no runs on Sunday too.

    I was thinking the same thing, one good thing is we are OVERDUE to give him huge run support. I dont mind waiting until he faces New York though.

    Paul, why is it that a Sox win vs a 13-20 team is nice because D-Mat has a "quality start" and he "looks better", and bla bla bla but a Yankee win vs a 13-20 team is only because that team stinks? That is pretty weak my friend!

    I would say D-Mat's start was more than just a quality start - he dominated the game tonight. He only gave up one meaningless home run when the Sox were up 6-0, and he struck out 8 in 7 innings. Wake goes for the sweep tomorrow.

    Boy, the Rangers do suck. What the heck happened to them?

    BJ Ryan is out for the entire season...no playoff chances for Toronto without him, even if everyone else gets healthy. I think he made a significant difference last year.

    Not sure what we averaged but we scored 949 runs, divide that by 162 games. I like are '07 lineup better, especially if Lowell can keep hitting Hr's.

    That's 5.85 per game. So far this year it is 176 in 33 games (5.33/game). Pitching is great this year. #1 in espn power rankings today too.

    It absolutely amazes me that a knuckleballer is successful in modern day baseball. You have to have real special stuff and Wakefield has it. I cringe every time he goes against the Yankees.

    You know I was actually thinking that! I went out to eat with my Girl tonight and I caught bits and pieces of the game. After the game I heard about the bases being loaded a few times with no runs scored! image

    I caught most of the game. The Sox had their chances, but it seems like the O's made great defensive plays several times to kill scoring opportunities. Tejada robbed JD Drew of a 2 run single that would have tied the game, with a great leaping catch.

    Oh well, on to Schilling tomorrow afternoon.
