The time spent to put this together and ship it out is immense!
And, I agree this will be fun.
Just imagine doing this with 50s packs!

No problem, Mike. I think it'll be a good time, too. I'll also have fun watching the football and hockey guys get their rip on. I'm pretty sure that my costs were covered 100%. I had to buy the bubble wrap, but I had a few bucks to cover that, so I should be all good. I hope the packs arrived safely. I tried to pack them securely, and used the video tape boxes instead of the bigger ones to prevent them shaking around during shipment. Hopefully we get some nice cards.
Everyone should have their cards by Monday or Tuesday (the last 13 boxes went out today). I think we should bust the 1981 Fleer pack (thanks Steve!) next week, maybe on Wednesday, and then move to our regularly scheduled Sunday break on July 23. Sound good to everyone? Any other suggestions?

If Steve was willing to throw in a 81F box, maybe we should've traded that plus the 87-89 boxes for another 83???? I really hope we don't have to spend a whole week looking at each other's 89 cards. Ugh.
All of mine arrived. These are the only ones that would fit in the scan.
This is the most fun I've had with cards in some time.

I am happy to announce the arrival of my 11 packs! Thanks AJW and thanks to STEVE at BBC Exchange! Im really looking forward to pulling the Henderson, Ripken, Gwynn, Sandberg, Boggs, Mattingly, Clemens and McGwire rookies!
lol this is bad but I Have to confess to ripping the 81 fleer pack. I have never owned ANY 81 Fleer cards and I just had to.

I used to sit on Pete's bed - he lived on the first floor of our apartment building.
He kept his cards in shoebox under his bed.
For whatever reason - I bundled them with rubber bands and kept them in my top drawer.
I'm sitting here staring at the packs - wow...I think I hear them calling me!

Stone,
Those are '63 Topps cards, aren't they? I think I see a high number, too, of...what's his name with the yellow border...Tim Stoddard or something like that?? Yup, that pic reminds me of trading with the neighborhood guys and my cousin...
Neat!
(edited to add I think the card I'm looking at is #419 - Tracy Stallard. I need to get my '63 set out and revisit it obviously!)
Is that you in the pic? That's a great piece of history there. I wish there were more photos depicting vintage cards & packs at the time they were first on sale. I recall seeing a photo, I think it may have even been on these boards, that showed a 1952 Topps display stand at an old Woolworth's or something. Old photos like these are priceless and a testament to the history of the hobby.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

The 52T sale is classic! Some may have missed it...
Thanks, Stone, that 52 Topps display pic is priceless! Wonder if they were high series packs, and how many Micks were hiding under their wrappers! My earliest memory of really going all out to buy packs was back in January 1982. I was 12 years old at the time, and I can still recall clear as day cleaning out this smoke shop named "Pipe-N-Paper" near my house of all the 82 Topps packs they had. I remember buying a cello box there on the same day the Bengals defeated the Chargers in that frozen tundra bowl in the NFL playoffs and as I recall the guy behind the counter sold me a full box of 82T cellos for $10 even (market price was $11.76). I blew most of my paper route money there and don't remember even noticing the Ripken Rookie Card!

Cool story Grote - I never got that many packs at one time. The most I can remember is 5 as a kid.
Looking at the display - it's massive. So it could go either way - just started the promotion - early series.
Or the guy put all that out there to blow it off before winter and FB cards?
