I just heard from Steve at BBCExchange. He's been following this thread and has made us a very nice offer. Tomorrow I'm hoping to look at some packing/shipping options, but I think that the full Topps run from 1980-1989 will be $25 per person. It may well be a buck or two less than this, and I can't imagine it being more. That's $2.50 a pack, and you get to dig for your Rickeys, Tims, Cals, Wades, Dons, Rogers, Vinces, Wills, Toms and Garys.

I'm going to update the list of participating board members in the very first post of this thread. If you want in, please check that list for your name. We've got room for 36 guys, and the only fair way to do this is first come, first serve. If you change your mind and DON'T want to participate, that's cool, just be sure to let me know so that we can give someone else a chance.

If anyone has suggestions on how to best package these for shipment, please let me know via private message. i'd like it to be (i) easy, (ii) cheap and (iii) secure. Any ideas? (I'll check out the various box/shipping stores to see what they have that might work.)

I'll post tomorrow with details about how to send payment, after I've had a chance to think about shipping.

I just did another count, and I think we're at 35. Please check to make sure you're on the list. If not, PM me and I'll fix it.

Finally, I got a quote from Steve for the football run, too. I'll give that info to VintageJeff and I'm sure he'll update his thread.

If you are looking to ship Priority Mail this box made to ship VHS tapes may work. You can order them for free from USPS and they'll ship to your door for no charge. A sample should be available at the PO.

    Priority VHS box

I think it may ship for the 4.05 minimum for Priority. You can also print the postage at the USPS site if you ship this way.

Then again, if a large bubble mailer and cardboard ships for only a couple bucks it may be worth it to go cheaper.

i use the priority video boxes to ship e bay sales a lot. I dont think you can fit that many packs in there, Ive never tried though, so so it may be possible.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I guess I wasn't planning on shipping priority. If I do that, the cost will go up a bit. Still, it shouldn't be more than $27, and I'll try to do it as cheaply as possible.

Anyone plannin' on doing some mid to late 70s stuff like this? If so, can you figure out the per person cost? I'd be interested in jumping into that one too! image

I believe 7 packs wrappen in bubble wrap surrounded by foam peanuts will fit nicely in a standard Priority Mail 7x7x6 (free at most PO or delivered). Shipping a similar box First Class I think will be around $3.50-$3.85 so for a few cents more, you can use free boxes. For 7 packs, I would not ship it in anything smaller than a 7x7x6 box else you will have damaged packs.

Well, it looks like we have a full roster of 36. The full list is in the first post for this thread.

ldferg, I'm really sorry, but I think you're #37. Of course, if someone drops out, you're first off the bench. Ok? (I'd say there's a good chance of that, but we'll know more once I get payment details out to the group.)

If not trust me, I'll get up with you guys! I'm going down to the beach for some sun and surf and hopefully a little bit of big boy fishing(Shark, Marlin, Bluefish, etc.) but I'll definetly get up.

Ok, it's a tiny bit more than I planned, but I forgot to include my PayPal costs, and I think it's easiest to send Priority mail.

So, it comes to $27 total. That will get you one Topps wax pack for each year from 1980-1989.

You can send me PayPal to A_W__@hotmail.com. (Importantly, that email is A underscore W underscore underscore.) Please be sure to include your mailing address (duh!), but also include your CU board name, so that I can match up payments to IDs.

Once I get a good number of payments in I'll call Steve at BBCX to place the order. (Hopefully that will be Wednesday, but it's possible that people will be away from the boards today.)

    Any questions?

While I appreciate the thought, the fee is built into the $27. I think the fee is like $1.08 per. ($.30 + 2.9%)

I'll place the order tomorrow, and will have your packs out the door as soon as possible.

As someone who will be watching from the dugout I agree that you guys should go backwards. I know 5 weeks is a long time for the participants to get to the "good packs" (e.g. 1985 and before) but I agree that interest on the board will be maintained.

This is a great idea and I can see it taking off. Baseball during the '80s is the most economical. Football and hockey boxes during the same decade will be pretty pricey.

Who's gonna run the BASKETBALL break? BBCX has a 1986 box for $10,500 and 1987 for $500.

I didn't even look into the basketball, knowing that it'd be a reach. I did the numbers on hockey, and they were pretty ugly. Not bad as basketball, but pretty bad.

How about a basketball break without the '86s? I mean, those boxes are WAY too expensive even for a group to 'invest' in some fun. image
