Clarke442 is a Red Sox fan. I just beat him out on the Doyle card at $109 four days ago. He's a pretty heavy bidder on those Red Sox cards.

I just got my first submission graded by PSA. All 78's and nothing too special with results as follows:

    #708 Rookie Catchers PSA 9
    #652 Checklist 606-726 PSA 9
    #450 Tom Seaver PSA 9
    #701 Rookie Pitchers PSA 9
    #417 Mike Garman PSA 8
    #11 Rick Manning PSA 8

The funny thing is, I thought that the Garman and Manning cards had the best chance of getting 10's!! I guess they won't be asking me to grade cards anytime soon. I've got another (25) great looking cards going down tomorrow.

    Hey Dave,

The Rookie Outfielders card looks like a 9 IMO. A small tilt on the left border but the card has nice eye appeal. Centering is great except for that left border and the surface looks pretty clean.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You should go out and celebrate and buy a Murray Rookie in PSA-10. I think the last one sold for around 5 grand! We'll have a little softparade by the middle of next March, who knows, maybe St. Patrick's day?

    Way to go, Dan!

Now don't go letting that child use any of your cards while it's teething!

    Congratulations Dan! Awsome news!

Although the card budget may take a hit in the short term, just think of the bright side. In a few years your child will be old enough to go to shows with you. When that happens, you go through the entire show and scout out everything you want. Next, you give your son/daughter about half the marked price for each card in cash (one at a time of course) and send them up to buy what you want. Be sure to instruct them to look cute, tell the dealer that is all they have, and that they think old cards are cool. Since many dealers are soft hearted for kids collecting old cards, you probably make a haul. Of course, considering how sharp he/she will be, by the time you recoupe all that you have missed out on, your son/daughter will probably want a commission. Oh well.......

Frank, always working those angles, hehe

On another note, Frank, who has it out for you at PSA?, How on freakin earth did your 78 set NOT win modern set (AGAIN)?
The fix is in i tells ya, the fix is in.
Its not even remotely close between your set and the whole of the 77 sets in general, plus your gpa makes the 77 top set look like a little girly man.
Who do you have to sleep with to get a little respect for the 78's 8-(

Congratulation to the new 78 leader Brian Igoe! Well done!

Guy - I'm pretty much working on other projects. I'm still trying to complete my set to get every card that I'm happy with and have a 3-Box case to break, but for the most part I'm spending my time on other issues/hobbies.

I've been working this set for about a month or so. Most of the cards in my registered set are from my submissions. I did buy one large PSA-9 lot from Brian - thanks again for that. Here is my latest submission. I thought I had a chance for a 9 on the Terry Forster card - graded as PSA-8 (that might be going back for a review/resubmit). Not sure what happened with those 2 7's. Here are my results:

I even got a 6 day turnaround. No 10's but I'd have to say overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the results.

These will be going into my "Cardboard Gold - 1978" set.

I still have one sub at PSA and another going in by the end of the week.

    Hi,
During the past 6 weeks I've sold over 200 1978 PSA 9's to many members of this thread and on Ebay with an average of more than $25 per card. I agree we have some commons that will go for the $5 but the quality low to mid pops still bring a very good price.
    Thanks,

    Jeff,
The best bet is to check past results on ebay.

After that, check the lot against the population reports. If the card is high POP, I would suggest $5 per common and 1/3 to 1/2 SMR for stars. For example, a 1978 Pete Rose will go for ~$10 - $20 depending on how patient you are.

    Hey folks,
Just got my results from a recent sub of mostly 78s. I'll give you all first crack before they go on ebay. Soft and I have a sort of agreement on the Ellis Valentine, but the others are up for grabs. To give you an idea, I'm going for 20% off what I think they would realistically bring on ebay. Any high pop commons are $4 each.

Greetings from the land mine capital of the world.

I was trying to pay for a '78 card and received the following PayPal message:

Error 3028. You have accessed your account from a sanctioned country. Per international sanctions regulations, you are not authorized to access the PayPal system. For more information about your PayPal account status, contact ofacappeal@paypal.com. For further information regarding international sanctions, please refer to the respective websites of the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control and/or the Bank of England.

I bet that error doesn't appear too often.

That's one way to stop me from buying cards. image

    Not. image

Anyone have a PSA 9 #717 Nelson Briles they would be willing to sell? Please send me an e-mail if you have one for sale.

Yes, I figured out how to access PayPal so it won't be an issue.image

    Keep submitting those '78s.image

    Yeah Dan,
I decided to sell the Ellis to the #1 guy in the registry for $5. You didn't really need it did you? Just kidding, been very busy with work and stuff. I'll let you know when it goes up. SOM, I'll get that scan to you as soon as I have a free minute.

I have been VERY QUIET on the card buying front. Have not bought a card since I picked up a Denny Doyle PSA 9.

We put brand new floors throughout the house, replaced all of the windows, new appliances across the board (except dishwasher ... that one I put my foot down on ... nothing wrong with it) a deck is coming soon not to mention a baby. image So ....... you all can see why image
