Nice 84's....I always thought that the Green/Gold A's uniforms looked sharp.

as an aside - a funny Tom Underwood story......

I'm in an antique store a few years ago looking for baseball goodies. They have nothing. The man working tries to interest me in a Ryan Klesko auto that he has at home from Klesko's days with the Richmond Braves...as I head for the door, I spot a bat in an umbrella stand. For laughs I pick it up and lo and behold, its a real gamer. I could tell right away by the labeling. Block letter name of Underwood with a number 34 on the knob. I ask him how much and he says $30. I tell him that the bat is cracked and I just want a wood bat to teach my kid how to hit in the back yard. He runs out and confers with the owner and we agree on $15. I take the bat home, run through the Mastronet guide and verify that its a 1977-79 vintage gamer. I do a search for Underwood on the net and discover that he is working for First Union in Florida. A quick call to them yields his mailing address at work. I shoot him a letter with a pic of the bat and he writes back and confirms that it looks like one of his and asks "How'd you find where I work?" image

A quick email to Louisville Slugger confirmed that Underwood did indeed order 12 of these, 6 in '76 and 6 in '77. Since its not a Liberty Bell model and the labeling is 77-79, this makes sense. Underwood was traded midway in 77 to the Cardinals from the Phillies and his uniform number with the Phils was 34.

    Not bad for $15.

The weird part about that interesting story was the part where you mentioned that a former big leaguer had to still 'work' for a living!

Thanks. As far as the signatures go, I have no idea. It wouldn't be hard to fit the whole thing in there by adjusting the design of the card. Perhaps they could get some advice from Garrett (knuckles)

As a big Colts and Manning fan, I wanted it graded just to keep for myself. Having it come back a 10 was a real bonus, 1 of only 2 of that auto.

Now for those looking for another area to collect, I have been picking up some BB related sheet music.

Here's one I picked up a while back before the "stone ebay shutdown" impossed by the management.

I love cards like this 69 Ferguson. Remembering back to the Garden a young over excited kid walking up the runway to see these hideous green uniforms buzzing around the ice during warmups. It was surreal. This is also why I post a pic of all my cards in my registry sets so we can all enjoy them and remember when...

Another "true" EX/MNT card that came this past week.

a few dots that do not take away from the overall appeal of this card.

So I'm going through some old stuff I had packed up (I've moved several times over the past decade and some things never bothered to unpack) and I come across a copy of a book called "My Greatest Day In Baseball" a really cool 1940s pub whereby many of the early baseball stars like Cobb, Ruth, etc recount what they thought was the high point of their baseball careers. I remember I bought the book at a show in the 1970s because it had 16 HOF autographs in it, including Satchel Paige.

I'd almost forgotten I still had that so as I'm leafing through the book THIS falls out.

    image

Guess I better put it back in the book...er, maybe some archival protection would be better, eh?

    Onlypsa -

egads! You're killing me...I was already having nightmarish flashbacks going through some old pictures which I posted on another thread...Memories of the Habs, B's, and Flyers just abusing our poor minor league club. Those Pacific Blue unis were really bad - the NHL had taken over the team by then and I'm sure the budget was pretty thin in that the average attendance was under 7,000 a game and the highest priced ticket in the arena was $8.50...thankfully they were the road unis. The whites of the same style were at least "presentable".

Actually I was originally referring to the Charlie Finley era 1972-74 when the used the A's colors - Kelly Green, California Gold, and Wedding Gown White...but seriously the Seals never, ever had a decent uniform in the 9 years they were in existence.

Thought I'd share another one that came in today. A pretty nicely centered Yaz. The book PSA used to give out with memberships, the "Top 200 Sportscards" is breaking me. I want every one. Of course, I can probably only afford about 50 of them in my lifetime but it's fun trying!

On a side note, I hope you all are using those paypal codes other members are putting on here. Will save you a bunch. Being the eBay bottom feeder I am, I got this card much cheaper than it usually goes. And with one of the paypal codes, I have a total of $106 in this card. A really good price if you follow this one.

    Merry Christmas all,

    Shawn.

I'm too young to remember the Golden Seals era - I know Larry Patey only as one of the Blues top penalty killers of my formative hockey years - but I actually dig those sweaters. There's certainly something to be said for the timelessness of the Maple Leafs look, for instance, but garish can be good in the NHL.

Some cards from my most recent submissions.....Spanning the eras......

Here is a T206 Deacon Phillippe. The card has major corner damage but no creases and nice color. It is my first Tolstoi back and is my second Phillippe. I have the same card with a El Principe de Gales back.

    imageimage

Here is a couple of '81 Donruss Pete Rose cards. Hard to believe these will be 25 years old in a few months. The "See Card 371" variety is the less common variety. Who knew back in 1981. I've had these since then.

    image

And finally a 2005 Heritage Jeter. Always nice to get a Gem Mint card from PSA. I'm a big Jeter fan and the Heritage cards are great.

I don't collect football at all but that Jim Martin card is really cool looking, NJMH.

And that Phillippe is a great 1, tkd. I'll hopefully get some of my own T and E goodies up later. Got an invoice back from PSA today as well as another nice card off eBay.
