Stingray - dont feel like your stuff is put to shame by all this. Vintage cards and memoribilia drive the hobby. They are its only constant. When people unearth rare finds, its exciting. Right now '84 Topps are still readily available for most but if that's what you enjoy, so be it. Enjoy your collection!
Thanks for the kind words. Not to go to OT, but it finally came down to what can I afford to collect and something that I have an emotional attachment to. I tried 67s BB, too much money for me, I like the look of the cards, but never collected them, was only a year old back then, so I had not attachment to them. I was doing 75s and 78s for a bit, but I finally had decided to stick with one and one only.
Trumping is encouraged. Without this thread, I wouldn't have seen any of the stuff on here. Besides, I've been waiting for a snowy day to post my T206 Wagner
Stingray, Having the 6th finest 1984 set is nothing to apologize for. I'd love to have the 6th nicest set of anything.
I purchased 3 packs of 1987 topps football cards today at my local hobby shop (I actually only purchased them to go over $15 min debit/credit card requiremetns), but feel really happy to have pulled these guys (montana has left bottom corner ding, elway is o/c, but payton is really nice card the mark on the card is the scanner, not the card btw!) Not bad for $8 I guess..
Julen Those are some nice cards you pulled. Too bad the Montana had a ding.
Golf That's a great Jones card - I've got a Brit cig card somewhere - not sure which brand.
Tk Nice Red Man card! I'm always impressed with the color and quality of the set.
Perry That's a really nice Dempsey auto PC!
Sting There's nothing like a perfect card - nice Carew - and always worth my time to view - how far are you into the set?
Lothar That 7 is off the chart! Looks like an 8 to me? Very nice pickup. You must be close to completion?
Yawie What can I say - you always show these really nice T206s! I'm not buying anything right now, so I like to see what you guys are picking up. Congratulations.
Church Really nice Wagner - thanx for sharing.
Hope everyone had a really nice Thanksgiving! mike
Couple more scans from 1987 topps football 3 pack collection: 1-Sweetness in Action 2-hehe 3-Didn't he win Survivor or some reality show based on tropical island?
I busted some 1982 Topps Football recently. Ugh. Tons of OC stuff, and no Taylors, but I did get 2 Lotts, however.. Lott #1 had 3 major surface wrinkles. Lott #2 had a nasty piece of 23 year old gum stuck to it (with what looks like water damage where the gum was in contact with the card), as well as the same 3 surface wrinkles as the first!
It's one thing to get NO key cards. It's another to get trashed key cards. Ugh.
However, I did pull a few yummy looking cards from the mess.. Think they're worth sending in the next time a special comes along?
All wonderful cards guys. These are by far my favorite threads, you get to see a lot interesting stuff. I have been away for awhile, and I am more of a voyeur than a poster, but I am proud, so I will 'jump in' as the thread's title implies.
My main collecting focus is the Post WWII HOF Rookies set and here are three of my most recent additions. I hope to have another few goodies come in before the holidays. Keep the great cards coming!!!
Here are two stadium postcards I picked up. I place the vintage at late teens/early twenties.
Interestingly the description on the reverse of both postcards make note of the fireproof concrete construction. I guess wooden stadiums were burning down all the time back then.
I love that Berra. When I started collecting 30 years ago, Yogi was the first old timer I collected. He was perfect for me, as he is a Yankee (my favorite team), a great player, and has a card in every Topps and Bowman set from '48 to '65. Anyway, your Berra looks great. I'm always impressed when I see '48s in such great shape. They seem like such fragile cards.
I just got this card in from our boards own downgoesfrazier. I probably overpaid but I had to see what a card from the fussiest collector of us all looks like.
They certainly do seem fragile and unfortunately, even in the holder, he moves around a bit. Do you still collect Yogi? I was thinking about doing a run of his and Whitey Ford's cards. Like you said, and obviously holds true for Ford as well, both are great players, Yankees and their cards are attainable without too much issue.
SP - That Dawson looks great. I remember when I first joined the boards I would go back and read the old posts to kinda get a feel for the boards. Anyway, I read a lot of DGF's posts and his passion and knowledge for a card's condition is remarkable. That Dawson is a sweet addition to your 78's - how is that coming along for you?
Data- I'm not actively pursuing Berra anymore. I've had some of my childhood cards graded and I'm 6th in the Yogi Berra basic set registry. I have half of the cards graded, mostly 5 and 6's, which 25 years ago were nice cards.
I am looking for a '55 Red Man Berra. It has been a tough card to find. I have seen PSA 8s, but they are a little more than I would like to spend. Haven't seen and 7s or 6s.

Stingray, lets see who on this board can make a site with scans of your 1984 topps cards..id like to scroll down and see all of them as you get them all in a row....that will be a sweet 792 card sweep when your done...Can anybody do this if stingray gives you the scans??? LETS HAVE SOME FUN WITH THIS!!!!
those are some sweet looking 84's! Money aside, completing that set is probably tougher than any 50', 60', or 70's set because of the lack of graded inventory floating around. Time to sign up! GOOD LUCK
I am hoping to wait until Spring or so before I have to sign up. I think I have research enough now to know where and what is out there for sale at this time. Will be a challenge for sure.

Hoping I can squeeze a 7 out of it, there's wear on 3 of 4 corners but the eye appeal and cerntering make up for it, i think (i hope).
thats a nice rice stix, good luck with the grade.
Keep up the good work, man.
Cool project. It's nice to see someone really enjoying the hobby. Congrats!

The 51's look nice too. I was going to ask the same thing about the Noren. Looks like some paper loss but still a nice card.
btw, what part of Jersey are you from?
Jersey? Just a name.
From MPLS. Now live in Woodbridge, VA . . . Suburban DC.
