It’s unfortunate that you only got one Henderson and no Ryan. That’s a bit of a bummer. The Ignitor is a beaut. I would turn it into a signed delight. 1980 was Moli’s first AS selection.
Been a hot minute since I have ripped anything. Seems like a good night for some bourbon and baseball cards. Let’s do some throwbacks to the 1975 Topps design. A box of 2024 Topps Heritage and a box of 2024 Topps Heritage High Numbers. So many top prospects in these series!
Here were the hits of the 2024 Heritage. Best cards were the two print variations: (1) Bobby Witt, Jr. missing signature 1:35 cases and (2) Julio Rodriguez image variation. The relic was a dud and nothing exciting on the refractors. Also no Elly or PCA rookies this box.
The 2024 HHN box was a bit better. Lots of color parallels and refractors, including a black border numbered to #/75. All the top RCs made an appearance and there was a Mauricio AUTO in the box too.

Great to see you back at it. Good luck with the rip.
How have you been? Ya know, I stopped doing Heritage and Chrome along with Bowman. I'm still going to do TSC for 2025 - I really like the photography although they have a problem with cutting - so it's rare to see a 10; light chips in some of the corners.
Have you ever done a big sub on the cards you were hoping to get 10s?

Any chance you will be opening up some stuff soon? This is my all time favorite thread and I miss your posts.
Anything before 1984 would be awesome to watch.
I do have 1978 and 1979 Topps baseball vending boxes that are begging to be ripped in the future. Life has been nuts lately, but I will get back to ripping again eventually. The price of PSA grading fees is too high to grade commons at this point, so it has slowed down my desire to rip as consistently.

Mike - always good to hear from you my friend! I continue to enjoy ripping 1980s boxes and have been stockpiling Heritage for rips with a vintage feel and today’s stars. It is always a rush to pull an auto. The PSA cost to sub commons no longer makes sense. I have about 1000 stars waiting to be subbed from my rips, and one day I will get around to sending them in. Work has been a bit nuts lately. Hope you are well and adding to your amazing board game collection.

It would be AWESOME to watch you open both or just one of these vending boxes. Especially if you show all the high grade cards you pulled like you have done throughout this entire thread.
Typical for 1980’s cards, none were dead centered nor worth grading. That said, it is always fun when both rack packs produce the best RC in the set. It never gets old pulling pack fresh Barry Bonds RCs. Of his 1987 rookies, Fleer has always been my favorite…
Here were the results. I love the simplicity of this set and the in-game images of Reggie, Schmidt, Ryan, Brett, Rickey, Mattingly, Strawberry and especially the Kevin Mitchell RC. That cloud of dust at home plate perfectly frames his competitive fire. Here were the stars and rookies that are not worth submitting…
Found 5 of the big 6 cards, only missed Will Clark RC in this box…
Out of 500 factory fresh cards, only 3 candidates for PSA 10 emerged. At least one was a Doug Drabek RC…

Good luck on the 1980!! Love that Year!!
Back in the 80s I was never a huge fan of this set but have come to really appreciate it lately. It's now one of my all-time favorites. I love the photos and the design of the cards. Some really iconic photos in that set and the quality of the photos are excellent.
This is one of my favorite sets from the 80s. Great images, tons of iconic HOFers, and one of the best looking rookies of all-time in Rickey Henderson. This box did not disappoint. Here are the key cards that don’t make the grade…
Then this case fresh, clean Rickey appeared. The fisheye on the left edge likely places this in a PSA 8 holder, but might have a shot as a MINT 9.
This box yielded a whopping 15 candidates for PSA 10. When these cards are centered (which is rare) with clean edges, corners and registration…they really pop! Here are the first 10 candidates…
Check out these 5 HOF cards that are certainly grade-worthy and potential dimes…
Thanks to all those that continue to follow my breaks. Happy Thanksgiving!

Great pull and I'm very happy for you. Please update us when you receive the grades.
I fully enjoyed the cards you pulled - the Rickey looks great - I agree depending on who grades it - might hit a 9; it's a tough issue to get 9 - 10s for sure. You were fortunate to pull even 1. I've seen Jabs family open a few wax boxes and yield zip. I remember opening a 79T vending box and got zero Ozzies or even a Ryan.
I have submitted a few and was only fortunate to get an 8 on the Rick.
Best of luck buddy and Happy Thanksgiving right back at ya!

what a great box really nice centering even on your cards will not get a ten grade. thanks for showing.
One of my other favorite sets from the 1980s is 1987 Donruss. This set is loaded with rookies and Hall of Famers. The majority of high grade cards from this set are pulled out of factory sets. Pulling perfect versions out of wax or rack packs is exceedingly difficult! You can distinguish between a pack pulled, and a factory set version because the factory set versions have slightly rounded corners, and the statistics on the back are oriented the opposite way from pack pulled cards. I love the artwork on counter and grocery displays from the 1980s. Takes me back to being a kid at the local general store.

I opened 16 of the 144 packs in this case. So just a sampling. Big Mac was in the very first pack. Something about pulling Rated Rookies still gets my adrenaline going. As a kid, it meant the potential of a top prospect, strong trade bait or just being the envy of your friends. The 1987 RR crop has held up well with Maddux, McGwire, Bo, Palmeiro, Steinbach, Myers and Santiago. Throw in regular rookies of Bonds, Larkin, Clark, Cone and Brown and this set is simply loaded with ripping fun. Here are the rookie and star cards that miss the grade…
Ripping 1987 Donruss wax packs, one immediately notices the improbability of pulling a PSA 10. At least 90% of the cards are off center. About 95% show some specks of white on corners or edges on these thin and dark borders. Add in print defects and I only found 1 candidate for PSA 10. At least he is a star…RIP Ryno!
Thanks for all the comments. It is fun to hear all of your stories and memories from this era and just ripping in general.

Mmmmm, Weller.
I have about 800 1985 Topps miswraps, when I get bored I open 1 or 2. Got a dead centered Puckett last week

Seems like a nice day for a pair of 1987 Fleer Rack Packs….

I love the Clark card
$30 In 1989
And you knew bonds was right behind
I finally have a little time off this week. Let’s enjoy a 1987 Topps vending box and hunt for a few PSA 10 candidates…
Nice! Best of luck, may you find lots of minty, centered cards!
... and Happy Thanksgiving!

Gorgeous Cards!! Those are super fun to look at!! Congratz!!
The Carew and Bench are HOT.
The Rose Highlights is also one of his coolest photos in any set. And so much better than his regular issue in 1980.

Is there 87 Donruss Vending and if so have you ever tried opening one? Thanks - Chris
No donruss vending. Closest is a full set.
Man, if only the 87 set happened in the 70s and not the junk wax era...
