    It’s unfortunate that you only got one Henderson and no Ryan. That’s a bit of a bummer. The Ignitor is a beaut. I would turn it into a signed delight. 1980 was Moli’s first AS selection.

    Been a hot minute since I have ripped anything. Seems like a good night for some bourbon and baseball cards. Let’s do some throwbacks to the 1975 Topps design. A box of 2024 Topps Heritage and a box of 2024 Topps Heritage High Numbers. So many top prospects in these series!

    Here were the hits of the 2024 Heritage. Best cards were the two print variations: (1) Bobby Witt, Jr. missing signature 1:35 cases and (2) Julio Rodriguez image variation. The relic was a dud and nothing exciting on the refractors. Also no Elly or PCA rookies this box.

    The 2024 HHN box was a bit better. Lots of color parallels and refractors, including a black border numbered to #/75. All the top RCs made an appearance and there was a Mauricio AUTO in the box too.

    How have you been? Ya know, I stopped doing Heritage and Chrome along with Bowman. I'm still going to do TSC for 2025 - I really like the photography although they have a problem with cutting - so it's rare to see a 10; light chips in some of the corners.

    Have you ever done a big sub on the cards you were hoping to get 10s?

    Mike - always good to hear from you my friend! I continue to enjoy ripping 1980s boxes and have been stockpiling Heritage for rips with a vintage feel and today’s stars. It is always a rush to pull an auto. The PSA cost to sub commons no longer makes sense. I have about 1000 stars waiting to be subbed from my rips, and one day I will get around to sending them in. Work has been a bit nuts lately. Hope you are well and adding to your amazing board game collection.

    It would be AWESOME to watch you open both or just one of these vending boxes. Especially if you show all the high grade cards you pulled like you have done throughout this entire thread.

    Here were the results. I love the simplicity of this set and the in-game images of Reggie, Schmidt, Ryan, Brett, Rickey, Mattingly, Strawberry and especially the Kevin Mitchell RC. That cloud of dust at home plate perfectly frames his competitive fire. Here were the stars and rookies that are not worth submitting…

    Found 5 of the big 6 cards, only missed Will Clark RC in this box…

    Out of 500 factory fresh cards, only 3 candidates for PSA 10 emerged. At least one was a Doug Drabek RC…

    Back in the 80s I was never a huge fan of this set but have come to really appreciate it lately. It's now one of my all-time favorites. I love the photos and the design of the cards. Some really iconic photos in that set and the quality of the photos are excellent.

    Hiya Chris!

    I fully enjoyed the cards you pulled - the Rickey looks great - I agree depending on who grades it - might hit a 9; it's a tough issue to get 9 - 10s for sure. You were fortunate to pull even 1. I've seen Jabs family open a few wax boxes and yield zip. I remember opening a 79T vending box and got zero Ozzies or even a Ryan.

    I have submitted a few and was only fortunate to get an 8 on the Rick.

    The Carew and Bench are HOT.

    The Rose Highlights is also one of his coolest photos in any set. And so much better than his regular issue in 1980.

    You don’t know how long I stared at that Bo Jackson 87D at my local hobby shop back in the early 90’s. Wanting it so bad. Love this set too!

    Not a single card worthy of PSA 10, but I did manage to pull a HOF rookie card. I have always felt Barry Larkin deserves more hobby love. Former MVP, key to the 1990 World Series champs and a solid All-Star and HOF player.

    I had forgotten I put away a few cases from 1990 UD High Number Hockey. This is a deviation from the 80s project, but figured folks will be interested in seeing what comes out of the box. Been a very long time since I opened any of these. This set is loaded with Hall of Fame rookie cards. Jaromir Jagr, Sergei Federov, Pavel Bure, Curtis, Joseph, Ed Belfor, Mike Modano, Rob Blake, Alexander Mogilny, Mats Sudin, Scott Niedermayer, and many of the USSR red army elite. Such a fun year to rip and see all of these superstars contained in one set.

    Congrats. Some really nice pulls there. I think your grade on the Rickey is going to depend on whether that is dust or particles on it or if its snow/missing paint. If the latter think the 8 is the ceiling and maybe a 7. I have submitted a lot of 1980s over the years and even back in like 2008 or so when they were less strict I submitted a Nolan Ryan I thought was perfect and felt would get me a 10. But it had a singular tiny missing paint/snow spot which made it an 8.

    But as a 7 or 8, its an excellent card to own. The Bench looks incredible and think that has a nice shot at a 10. All the ones you included with it have promise too.

    I have submitted maybe 51980s in the last year and got a 10 and the rest 9s so if you get the right person you can still win.

    Love the 87F and 87D rips! Awesome stuff. I ripped a couple packs of 87D the other day and pulled the Big Mac. If you were ripping in latter half of 87 and pulled that card you had some serious cache in your card collecting circles. It remains easily my favorite card from 1987.

    I didn’t open much 87F, but I did pull the Seitzer/ Stefero Rookie Prospects card. $10 in Current Card Prices at the time!

    I loved that Seitzer card back in the day! Quickly followed by the 1988 Donruss Gregg Jefferies and Mark Grace RR. Talk about no miss future HOFers 😂. Nothing better than childhood memories and endless hope. I am convinced it is a central reason I never stopped collecting. Growing up is overrated. Happy Thanksgiving my friend!

    I have never ripped a single pack of the oft scorned 1987 Leaf (derided as a kid vs the Donruss).

    I can’t fathom those packs ever yielding a 10.

    I’m sitting on some boxes. But don’t have the desire to open. Mostly bc it doesn't’ produce the connection that say an 85T box would.

    But hope there are others who have that connection.
