I recently added this escudo to my collection and filled a hole in my mint+denomination set. The entire gold series is pretty much aspirational for me so when I found this coin for sale at a price I could afford, I went for it. Researching the coin, I could not find very many past sales that were straight graded and not counterstamped. I did find one on Heritage that I have to assume is an extreme outlier. If not, then I got a very good deal on my coin.
I will post this separately but liked it. It is so prooflike that one wonders if it has been cleaned.
Chile 1844 8 Escudos, strike through at neck of liberty:
Love that Milled British (1830-1960) Well, just Love coins, period.
1748 Mo MF 1R I picked up for a song long ago, showing an interesting unattributed variety: the obverse (shield side) crown is a "large crown over small crown," perhaps to cover over a mistaken application of the 1/2 real crown punch to the die. The inner rim of the smaller crown is most visible on the underside of the larger crown, and too the pearls on the upper right are crowded and jumbled.
Also on the:
Obverse: R representing REX recut, cinquefoil under R representing Real recut, and the N in IND looks to be recut over an inverted N(?)
Reverse: Left pillar, Mo, and Q all recut.
After a quick look at Yonaka and auction results, this looks to be the more common variety.
There was a recent local estate auction that had some interesting coins. Unfortunately, there was no in-person viewing before the auction, and all the bidding was internet only. So the only thing that was really local about it was the pickup of the auction wins after the auction (the auctioneer also had provisions to ship items, so that opened up the bidding to just about anyone in the world).
It seems that the estate was from somebody who had ties to Guatemala. Many of the coins were from there, as well as South America. There were some lots that had multiple cobs in them. They were pretty worn, but a few were identifiable as being from Guatemala (which makes them scarce, of course). Unfortunately, I did not win any of those. I could only bid what I felt comfortable with based on the listed photos. And I had to compete with bidders from around the world. I bid on 30 coin lots but only won three. I did, however, win the one lot that had two coins that were probably the best two in the sale (1835 and 1847 Central American Republic 8 Reales). I had to bid up for those, but got a pretty good deal. I won another lot that had two Peru coins: a 1880 5 Pesetas that I was interested in; plus an 1869 Un Sol that I didn't really care about, but came along for the ride. The price was right for these. The last coin lot I won was a 1911 El Salvador Un Peso in pretty nice grade. This particular issue was struck at the US Philadelphia and San Francisco mints. As far as I know, there is no way to distinguish which mint a particular coin came from. And lastly, I won two LED floor lamps that I can use at my coin show table. They were a deal at $3 each.
When I went to pick up the lots, I discovered that the coins were not in holders. I mean, not even 2x2s or flips. All five of my coins were handed to me loose in a sandwich bag. Fortunately, no damage or scraping of the patina occurred. It could have been ugly. Obviously, the seller was not experienced with coins. But these are the types of sales that I like.

Hope all is well.
He was blocked by the moderators (for a little while not long ago) and likely very upset about it. But hey you get what you deserve when bullying and harassing. People that do this type of behaviour hate been held accountable and become angry when they are. That is likely the reason he is not here just angry at the forum for punishing his bad behaviours.
If he could simply stop been like that he would be OK on the forum but I do not know if it is in him to stop. I say this after been on the receiving end of years and years of his bad behaviour. It is to bad he is a veteran with lots of knowledge.
Even if he comes back how long will he last before going back to his pattern of bullying/harassment towards those he hates.
I tried many times to make peace with him it never ever lasts. He just cannot let go. I truly wish it was not like this but it is unfortunately.
I thank the moderators for stepping in when they did.

I understand. I hope he comes back as well he has lots of knowledge that he can share and help members with. I just do not want to be bullied or harassed anymore by him if he can stop doing that then great. But I will not allow him to continue acting the way he was towards me anymore. I will notify the mods each time he does (if he does act like that towards me).
Will see what happens. If he does not come back I wish him the best. Lets get back to coins.

Added this 1R:

Happy Thursday! Here it goes, a rather uncommon coin. Like all from this series, few minted and even fewer survivors.
The best? As it is in an ANACS holder I paid nearly only for shipping...
Another one, very rare too and Top Pop out of 2 coins certified by NGS and none by PCGS...
Few new coins:
Happy Thursday!
