Happy Saturday to all. Mixing things up today. Got my Peloton ride in but getting ready to head out for donuts and coffee. Tough part will be only eating 2 (or 3).
Afterwards I plan to continue to work on building a catalog of my Classic Head sets. Time intensive but will be a great thing to pass down with the coins. Next up, the CBH collection. Enjoy the day.

Having a cup on the porch, watching the leaves fall from the trees. My favorite time of year.
Here is a relic medal struck from copper taken from some Confederate works in Newbern. One of the Massachusetts Regiments brought it back to Boston, where Merriam struck these fairly early in the war.

My body hurts this morning. There's a new bike in the garage ready to be put together, but kayaking on the river yesterday when the water was still swollen from the recent rains was probably NOT the best idea. Learned alot about this river, and even had a really good fish on (for maybe 5 seconds) ... but paying it for it this morning.
The bike will have to wait a couple hours.

Ahhhh, sipping the Saturday AM Red Eye & contemplating where I’m headed with these. I’ve acquired a handful of nice gold coins recently. It seems I’m going for type examples, but who knows? All I know is I’m enjoying this avenue of my collecting as there’s not much left for me with my IHC’s & Flyers (except for the “can’t resist” nice ones that may happen by). Here’s my latest “goldie”:

On the road again today - the Saturday red eye will be back next week. Today I’m musing about Mr. Red Copper himself, the late Stewart Blay. He was THE copper icon; a year ago GC held a massive auction of his collection. Below are the three I was lucky enough to win:
The EEPS for the 1857 is a formality already committed. While the 1871 is the very rare Shallow N, I’m leaving the coin as is. The 1897 was a rare RB for him; he bought RD almost 100% of the time. Happy Saturday all!

Finally back home; the red eye is fresh & I’m happy it’s Saturday. The early Walker quest continues today. I suspected I would try to complete the set & acquire all 26, not stop @ 20 like I first intended. Here’s the newest:
Critiquing: the rev is exceptional - trailing leg, breast feathers & mint mark. Obv - head detail is average @ best, center detail is OK +, skirt lines a bit below average, imo. Fields are clean & befit the grade. The natural whiteness is confirmed by the green bean.
22 down, 4 to go: the brutal 21-S, the 23-S (reached agreement to buy one @ FUN), the 27-S & 28-S.

Here's something kind of random. It's a James I shilling from 1604 or 1605 that was an impulse purchase at a show in 2016 when I wasn't finding any of what I went there actually looking for. I thought it was a pretty amazing thing to be able to own for the price of a nice meal out.
