I made an offer for this piece; it’s one of two @ this grade level. I used to own the other one years ago. It’s a cash + trade involving the coin below:
Bottom line is a 65RB + $$$$ for a 66BN. The seller prefers all $$$$ but I can’t justify owning both. In his opinion, his coin is a 66+/67. When comparing to the other 66BN, I can’t agree with him. I’ll be sure to post the outcome either in this thread or the new purchases one (if he accepts my offer).
Update: 5/28 - deal reached. Price reduced by a good amount & I keep the RB. All $$$$ to the seller. Nice deal!

I woke up on this particular Saturday morning with a crick in my back. My dog (who sleeps in bed with me) had gas. When she saw I was up she got REAL close and started salivating. This is her way of telling me I overslept her breakfast time. I went into the throne room and solved the NY Times Hard Sudoku. Then it was off to the kitchen where I made coffee and fed the dog (in that order!!!) Now, sipping on a steamin' mug o'joe and noshing on my weekend treat of cinnamon rolls, I'm here looking at your coins. Happy long weekend y'all!

You do not find minors from Peru or Guatemala very often without a hole threw the coin. It was a cultural thing they did a lot back then to carry coins on ropes or sow them into clothing:

All MS 1871’s are tough dates. In RD, they’re less available than the key date 1877. Couple this with a rare subset - the Shallow N reverse. There’s even more with this coin. Most of the Shallow N’s are S-5; this one’s a S-4. So, a rare subset of a rare subset!
A bit wistful today over the Red Eye. I’ve posted a couple times about my quest for the early Walkers (1916-1921). I’m halfway there but only 2 of the 10 remaining are what I would call “available” - 1920 & 1917-D obv. I once owned the coin below, which imo is #2 of the 20 on the tough date scale. Wistful because I wish I still owned it!

1851 50C VF35 PCGS. Delicate mocha-gray toning reveals a few pale-blue accents. Pleasingly detailed for the grade assigned with only trifling flaws, as befits the Choice VF designation. Population: 2 in 35, 51 finer (8/08).
Coffee in hand and relaxing today till the hockey game starts tonight first game of the Stanley Cup playoffs lets go Edmonton (vs Florida). Picked up a new variation of the 1767 Peru 1 Real I did not own (I own 2 types now of this rarer date in the series). Over 40% of all 1 Reales are holed per Yonaka due to it been a cultural thing to carry coins easily on rope or sowed into clothing. Apart from the hole it is the best 1767 I have seen detail wise most are a lot more worn:

Although common, this one can get expensive in uncirculated condition. Especially ones with colorful toning like this:
