    It was struck by Coin Press No. 1. With the limited number made and ties to the 1870 founding of the Carson City Mint it is among the more valued modern day collectibles to have come out of Carson City on that press. I believe the half dollar was chosen over the 1870 dollar due to concerns about potential damage to the press from the minting of anything larger.
