I've been MIA for quite a while....raising 3 kids depleted my "fun" money. Starting to get the itch again! Got a kick going back and reading through the thread. Hello to the old timers still in the group!

Football, the majority of it being vintage, is becoming my primary interest / monster. @rexvos is correct in my opinion i.e. value. There are vintage football rc's that I can chase , can't say the same within my budget for baseball, hockey, basketball.

Cards with character fit in well with me :)

I still own that Peyton Manning look alike card, the Rote was always a favorite from the 51 set

They just don't make them like that anymore. Sadly.

Agree....the design, logos, and artwork of early and mid-50's cards are amazing.

Expecting something better than embarrassment from the Lions this year! OK, one Packer to mollify a fan base that should expect an occasional down season or two once in a while.

Great card. Blanda looks really young!

He was the reason I was a Raider's fan. A random Sunday game - early 70s - Lamonica's stinking up the field and they're down about 12 pts and game almost over. So, Blanda's put in and his approach was different - short passes to the line of gain and bam! Score's a TD - stays for the PAT and then they get the ball back - onside kick - short passes again and with seconds left he stays and kicks the GAME WINNING FG!!!! He was my hero! 🏈

Long time since I've seen you around, how are you?

Any idea how Steve "Winpitcher" is doing?

    Hiya Paul

I'm here and there - more recently. I tried contacting Steve and he didn't respond - I wish he would contact me - I've been here 22 yrs now and that 's a lot of members gone.

I'm doing fine - how about you?

Too bad about Steve, we all have lost contact with friends here over the years sadly but that is how it goes with online communities

No complaints here, I picked up a few cards after getting the itch again so I figured I'd resurface this old thread.

Nice to chat with you as always

The photos on the football 50s are generally weird and cheesy but the design and colors are insanely cool. I just love all the sets.

Great seeing some "old timers" chime in on this threat...one of my favorites. Guessing one of these games Mike, but not sure which one.

I like vintage football, but for some reason dont have that many. most of my stuff is from Montana to Brady. I do have a nice mid condition 1950 Otto Graham rookie. i dont have an image of it, but i think it is in an SGC holder.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

At one time I thought vintage football was significantly undervalue due to the popularity of the modern NFL and the price gap between the tops vintage football stars and vintage baseball star cards. So I went crazy and started buying up key rookies in PSA 7 or higher. However looking back. I would have been better off financially buying up key vintage baseball stars in PSA 7 or higher. I love my vintage FB rookies and don't regret buying any of them. For whatever money I left on the table, I really enjoyed chasing the vintage football cards down.

I measured the card and its about 1/16th of an inch short on width and a little less than that on height. It's really close. Judging by the rough cut on the right side, I'm guessing it was miscut at the factory. Agree, still looks great, will stay in my Bears collection!

As I'm sure your well aware the quality control on those sheets at the factory were horrible, well centered legit copies of many cards are pretty difficult

    Gorgeous card!
