Joe you Rat Fink! How much $$ did you cost me? LOL. Which ones did you pick up? I bid on many of them so I probably hurt your buy price too unfortunately. They are great cards....I may try to list on the bay with a higher buy it now and see if I can turn a quick buck...if not they will happily reside in the BDB collection. I was the underbidder on the Grange one last week..I bid around $500 for it and still lost. I see teh seller is from Cleveland...not sure who it is..I probably have bought from them at shows.
I just bought a 61 Fleer PSA 9 Robustelli off of ebay for well under VCP. I think there is another one up there for $75 or $80, which is a little pricey, but not outrageous.
Hello Guys! I was suprised to see this old thread at the top of the page! Good to see some familiar faces and also nice to see some great cards!
I dont have a single card left in my collection, i got rid of everything awhile back..I simply cant be satisfied without going overboard and driving myself crazy buying everything in sight and still not getting every card I want or "Need" Although I will always have a love for the vintage football!
I wish everyone the very best in their collecting goals.. Football is yet another major dissapointment for me yet again since that pathetic loss the Patriots were dealt yesterday but the Jets won fair and square so be it.
Nice to see you guys are still adding beauties to your collections!

Glad to see you dropped in. I share your obsession. It is hard not to be that way with the hobby. Also I share your dissappointment this year as a Saints fan, but I am used to it. I will always have last year.
Great Mayfair Grange..was that the SGC 88 that was offered?. Great looking PSA 4 Pihos too.
Paul, Great to hear from you again....miss you around here brother! I understand your thoughts completely. I think most of us have had the "I am getting out of the hobby" thought. I went over 6 months without buying a piece of cardboard ...that was a record for me! LOL
Can you guys tell me about the 1937 Mayfair Candies issue? I've never seen it before. What HOFers are depicted? If you get a chance, I'd like to see a back of one of the cards.
Thanks,
Tony

Paul, glad to see you dropped by & that you're doing well. Hard to contemplate getting rid of every single one of my cards - looks like you adjusted just fine.
Ah, Willie Galimore... one of the great what-ifs of all-time. From everything I have seen of him, he was right up there with Gale Sayers and Barry Sanders in elusiveness. I don't have any of those Kahn's cards. I really wish I could afford them. That one is gorgeous!

Boy are SGC graders tough! You could practically shave with this card....looks like an 8 to me. Looks like I am taking the plunge on this set too...God am I nuts? (please dont answer that!)
That's a beautiful card, Ryan. For that set, a 7 is like an 8 1/2 for most other vintage. Those things are brutal! I haven't really taken on that challenge yet. I've got a few of them, but to get them in any sort of nice condition is so pricey and they are so hard to find it is amazing. That one is a find!
Congrats recbball. The only thing keeping me from going after that set is the difficulty in finding cards that I'd be happy to look at. I thought you would have picked that up for the All-Time Rams, then I noticed that he isn't on the All-Time Rams. That's a pretty strong All-Time team when a guy who was one of the top rushers of the early 50's and a four time Pro-Bowler can't make the cut.
Here's my amateur attempt at some "could have been" cards, will have the wife touch up later, she's much better at the creative stuff than this anal Virgo CPA.

those look very cool. Great whatifs.
I thought this thread needed a bump with another Cowboy Rookie, got it in today!
A little stagnant for this legendary thread. We need to get this vintage party started again!!! Here's one of my recent pickups. A big addition to my 1955 Bowman set.
Bumping this epic thread, I actually just bought a a card for the first time in over 5 years. I was poking around EBay and found a gorgeous raw 1952 Bowman Large George Taliaferro for $10, I might start picking up some raw low grade cards for fun again. Not a chance I will be spending money on graded cards but a few cheap raw grade cards will be picked up now an then. Any of you old timers from this thread around anymore?
He was drafted by the 49’ers in 1952, how could he have taken a pay cut? Do you mean by agreeing to play for them he took less money than if he was drafted by another team? He was a beast either way
Good to see you posting 52Bs here again - don't collect FB but do have a couple of Giffords and an Otto Graham exhibit's on display in a vending machine I have.
Hi Mike, thank you for chiming in! I gave up with the graded cards and have been buying a TON of lower grade stuff all over the place without the worry of re sale value. I’m enjoying the cards more than ever now that I’m not dumping big money into them.

He was making more money as an "amateur" collegiate football player from all the local businesses to keep him happy at UW. Cars, apartment, cash...he was called The King for a reason.

Was just searching google for a card value, and saw an old picture of mine come up ... I clicked the link and it brought me here to this old 2008 thread. Figured I'd bump it ... for some more vintage football love. BTW, If any of you guys aren't in our Facebook group yet ... come check it out. It's called "Vintage Football Cards." We've got about 3500 members now, and there's buying / selling / trading and auctions going everyday. It's all free, no fees or anything ... just a bunch of good collectors swapping cardboard and chatting football.

Also recently picked up these guy - a little out of my usual time frame but good looking Giants nonetheless
I've been shutout on four 1961 Fleer PSA 7/8 for about two years now. Anyone know a good source, beyond ebay, where I could track down the following:
1961 Fleer Football: 6 - Stan Jones, 51 - Tommy McDonald, 75 - Andy Robustelli, 125 - Ernie Stautner
Any help would be appreciated! Tony
The Pihos I picked up

That one was on my watchlist, but I don't have any 9s in my collection so even at $55 I passed. You got a good deal. Tony

Here's the vintage stuff I picked up:
Also, I've always loved that '52 Waterfield card. Just a great
looking football card and pose.
Not a new addition but for the Bears fan's, whom I'm sure are happy to see their team in the NFC Champ. game.

A Trifecta of new pick ups
Hugh McElhenny is quite a legend in Seattle - University of Washington. The old story goes is that he took a pay cut when he signed with the 49ers.
